    Lancashire 0-0 v Essex 391

So about three hours later than the Lancashire members would have liked, openers Luke Wells and Keaton Jennings come out to bat.

Wells has a rush of blood from Sam Cook's first ball as he has a dart outside off, but luckily for the Red Rose man, he does not get a touch.

  2. wicket

    Cox b Berg (Northants v Kent 323-4)

A bit unlucky, perhaps. Jordan Cox tries to force a ball from Gareth Berg away off the back foot but it results in a thick inside edge into his stumps.

Northants have now taken two wickets for 17 runs since play began, but Kent skipper Jack Leaning is still there on 20 not out.

  3. rain stops play

    Somerset 211 v Hampshire 69-1

Off we go again down the M5 as the rain sweeps in across the ground.

Ian Holland, on 36 not out, has coped with some testing bowling to put Hampshire in a decent position.

Azhar Ali wins the race to three figures with partner Jack Haynes.

A single off Ed Barnes to backward square leg carries the Pakistan batter to three figures from 159 balls - helped by 11 boundaries.

It's his first century for Worcestershire, having fallen just short in their last two matches when he made scores of 92, 88 and 60.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

Porter run out 0 (Lancashire v Essex 391 all out)

Some classic number 11 batting from Jamie Porter!

He fends one out to midwicket off Hassan Ali and sets off to run when there clearly isn't one on. He is sent back by Sam Cook and beaten by a direct hit from Josh Bohannon.

Still 391, and some excellent tail wagging today with the three wickets falling for 111.

    Yorks 113-3 v Warwicks 244

We described Joe Root's dismissal at Headingley a few minutes ago (see 2:22 entry).

This is what the wicket meant to Warwickshire's Henry Brookes.

    Snater lbw b Ali 72 (Lancashire v Essex 391-9)

    What a pity!

After flicking Hassan Ali for four, Shane Snater is pinned in front of leg stump next ball and he has to go.

With ten fours and a six off 82 balls, he has done a great job for Essex, first with Dan Lawrence and then putting on 57 with Sam Cook.

But he falls eight short of a personal best.

A first wicket of the innings for Ali and a 25th of the season. Only Durham's Matty Potts has more, although as things stands, this is Ali's final game for Lancashire.

    Somerset 211 v Hampshire 63-1

The score suggests Hampshire are going along nicely, but they are having to battle hard.

There have been 25 plays and misses in this innings. If only 10% of those had produced a wicket, things would look very different.

    Compton c Curran b Sanderson 140 (Northants v Kent 306-4)

    Ben ComptonImage source, Getty Images

With a third batting point secured by Kent, Ben Compton begins a new Ben Sanderson over by stroking him away through the covers for four.

The next delivery is a similar line but Compton doesn't get over this one and is caught by Ben Curran, stationed as one of two gullys.

He batted for 406 minutes, faced 294 balls and hit 16 fours in total. This is some season he's having - 810 runs at an average of 101 now..

    Root c Burgess b Brookes 8 (Yorks 109-3 v Warwicks 244)

He won't be happy with that.

It's a full length delivery by Henry Brookes, swinging away, and Joe Root pays the price for driving without the necessary footwork as he edges to keeper Michael Burgess.

Harry Brook is the new batter - if you believe the 'whispers' he won't be in England's final XI for the first Test, but a big score here may prompt a re-think by Key, Stokes & co.

  11. Snater on firepublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Lancashire v Essex 382-8

Shane Snater crunches one down past mid off for four. A crackerjack of a shot!

The Netherlands international maybe fancies bettering that 79 not out.

There's four more with a glorious flick through midwicket!

And a third one of Luke Wood's over as Snater sends one through cow corner.

    Yorks 105-2 v Warwicks 244

Oliver Hannon-Dalby only conceded one boundary in his first 13 overs - but his 14th starts with three in a row, all through the off-side by the previously unadventurous Adam Lyth.

The left-hander is now 41 not out and OHD's figures are 'ruined' - 0-21 from 14, with 10 maidens.

  13. Postpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Lancashire v Essex 369-8

There are a lot of hands on hips amongst the Lancashire fielders. They know the day is not going to plan.

Sam Cook swiping Matt Parkinson through the covers to the fence only deepens the gloom.

  14. 50 runs

for Shane Snaterpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Lancashire v Essex 364-8

A single brings up an excellent half century for Shane Snater.

His second of the season after a career best 79 not out against Northants last month.

It has put his team on top in this one.

  15. Play to begin at Lord'spublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Middlesex v Durham 256-5

Good news from Lord's - we are finally going to see some play at 14:40.

Ned Eckersley (57) and Liam Trevaskis (32) and Durham's not out batsmen, they stand is worth 73 so far.

  16. Postpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

A disappointing start to New Zealand's tour, with no play possible today against Sussex at Hove. And they also have three Covid cases in the camp.

  17. Postpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 20 May 2022

    Yorks 97-2 v Warwicks 244

Perfect timing by Joe Root as he strokes Henry Brookes away through the covers for the first four of his innings. His front foot didn't move very far but Root's got 37 first-class 100s so who are we to carp about technique?

    Joe ClarkeImage source, Rex Features

Nottinghamshire have lost their third wicket at Trent Bridge, with Joe Clarke (37) dragging a wide ball from Nick Potts into his stumps. They are 160-3, exactly 100 behind Derbyshire's first innings total.

Jack Haynes finds the boundary of Ben Mike and Worcestershire are now 217-2, 69 ahead of Leicestershire. Haynes is 78 not out and Azhar Ali has 80.

    Somerset 211 v Hampshire 50-1

Ian Holland strokes two nice fours off Peter Siddle and that brings up the 50 for Hampshire for the loss of only Felix Organ.
