Summary

  • Glamorgan beat Worcestershire by three wickets with Billy Root 99 not out

  1. wicket

WICKET - Denly lbw b Worrall 69published at 12:18 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

    Surrey 673-7 dec v Kent 331 & 128-2

If the Compton dismissal was plumb, Joe Denly's is even plumber. So plumber you could call it Mario.

The England man cannot get bat to it and Dan Worrall's delivery hits him relatively low on the back leg. No doubt whatsoever that was striking the stumps.

Eight more wickets needed for the Division One leaders to claim victory and open up a cushion of 24 points on second-placed Hampshire.

  2. Glamorgan victory target now under 50published at 12:17 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

Glamorgan 287-6 (chasing 332 to beat Worcestershire)

Glamorgan now need less than 50 to win - as Billy Root and Tom Cullen pile on the runs.

Root on 79 and Tom Cullen on 15.

    45 needed now.

Not all plain sailing though. Root's reverse sweeping causing a few alarms, as well as bringing a few runs.

  3. DERBYSHIRE DECLARATIONpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

    Sussex 337 & 0-0 v Derbyshire 551-8 dec & 121-7

We are about to start at Hove - after losing more than an hour of play, it's no surprise that Derbyshire have declared on their overnight 127-7.

Sussex need 342 to win. Derbyshire need 10 wickets. We are under way now there.

  4. 50 runs

Half-century for James Braceypublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

    Gloucestershire 337 & 161-3, Lancashire 402

Lancashire's victory hopes fast receding here as James Bracey goes to his 50, to stretch the Gloucestershire lead to 96.

Miles Hammond's own half-century looks set to follow.

  5. wicket

    WICKET - Compton lbw b S Curran 48published at 12:05 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

    Surrey 673-7 dec v Kent 331 & 126-1

    Plumb.

A key wicket for Surrey as durable Kent opener Ben Compton departs two runs shy of his half-century.

Real bit of movement for Sam Curran there and it confounds Compton, hitting him on the pads and that's a pretty easy decision for the umpire.

  6. Bears turn to spinpublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

    Northants 451, Warwickshire 405

After taking two wickets with their pace attack this morning, Warwickshire give spin a go as Jacob Bethell, deputising for the injured Danny Briggs, comes on.

  7. Postpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

    Nottinghamshire 551-8 dec v Middlesex 376 & 87-0

Notts bowler James Pattinson is absolutely imploring the umpire for an lbw against Sam Robson after a wicked delivery completely pins the batter in the crease.

He's down on his knees, arms outstretched. Just needs a busking licence.

That's definitely rattled him on the leg but think it was just a tad high. Straight but probably too high.

  8. Postpublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

The covers went on for what can have only been three minutes. They're back off again now as the drizzle halts.

The Kent openers amble back on to the pitch.

  9. rain stops play

Play starts at The Oval - and stopspublished at 11:53 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

    Surrey 673-7 v Kent 331 & 121-0

Well, it didn't really actually start. The players were out but it had started to drizzle.

Surrey's players have actually stayed on the pitch while the Kent openers are back in the pavilion.

Haha, brilliant! You can tell which of the teams is the one pushing for victory.

  10. Postpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

    Nottinghamshire 551-8 dec v Middlesex 376 & 86-0

Notts are probing at Trent Bridge but Middlesex openers Mark Stoneman and Sam Robson are remaining steadfast.

Their quest is simply to bat as long as possible.

  11. 50 runs

50 stand for Bracey & Hammondpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

    Gloucestershire 337 & 129-3, Lancashire 402

Not going to plan this for Lancashire.

No breakthrough yet, James Bracey and Miles Hammond have added a further 24 runs - and they now have a 50 partnership.

The Gloucestershire lead grows to 64.

  12. wicket

    WICKET - Gay c Burgess b McAndrew 1published at 11:41 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

    Northants 451 & 10-2 v Warwickshire 405

The place we expected the least drama today is currently providing the most.

Four wickets have fallen in the opening 40 minutes at Wantage Road.

That includes both Northants openers after wicketkeeper Michael Burgess takes his second catch in the opening four overs to dismiss Emilio Gay.

Corker of a ball from Nathan McAndrew - Warwickshire will be wondering if they can win this.

  14. wicket

    WICKET - Harris c Roderick b Leach 4published at 11:33 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

Glamorgan 255-6 (chasing 332 to beat Worcestershire)

Joe Leach strikes at New Road.

James Harris edges - and stand-in wicketkeeper Gareth Roderick dives to take a good low catch.

77 still needed. This will not help settle Welsh nerves.

Glamorgan stumper Tom Cullen comes on to join key man Billy Root, who is on 65.

  15. wicket

    WICKET - Vasconcelos c Burgess b Hannon-Dalby 4published at 11:29 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

    Northants 451 & 4-1 v Warwickshire 405

Ooh, could this one get a bit more interesting than we thought?

Opener Ricardo Vasconcelos has again fallen cheaply, following up his first-innings dismissal for five with one run fewer, caught behind by Michael Burgess.

A couple more Warwickshire wickets in this morning session would put the cat among the pigeons. Northants might adopt a cautious approach now, if they weren't already.

  16. Play to start at 12:15 BST at Hovepublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

    Sussex 337 v Derbyshire 551-8 dec & 127-7

    Andrew Raeburn
    BBC Radio Sussex at Hove

A delayed start at Hove due to persistent showers first thing this morning, which have now relented, allowing the ground staff to assess conditions.

After an inspection, play is due to start at 12.15pm - provided there is no further rain.

No indication as to whether Derbyshire will declare yet on their overnight 127-7, a lead of 341 over Sussex.

  17. Postpublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

    Nottinghamshire 551-8 dec v Middlesex 376 & 69-0

Middlesex opener Mark Stoneman flicks his bat a little towards a tidy Dane Paterson delivery, very close to nicking that but just pulls back in time.

Notts need early wickets at Trent Bridge but a draw will hardly be the worst result for them, given they hold a 10-point cushion over their visitors at the top of Division Two.

  18. 250 runs

250 up for Glamorganpublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

Glamorgan 250-5 (chasing 332 to beat Worcestershire)

Glamorgan knock off another landmark in their pursuit of this 332-run victory target - and, more importantly, they have already seen off three overs of main Worcestershire strike man Joe Leach.

Billy Root, supported by James Harris, has moved on to 62.

  19. wicket

WARWICKSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 405published at 11:14 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

    Northants 451 v Warwickshire 405

    Northants celebrate.Image source, Getty Images

Well, that didn't take Northants long.

Warwickshire added just nine runs to their total this morning and trail by 46. Dom Sibley (102) and Michael Burgess (77) top-scored.

Simon Kerrigan strikes again, as last man Oliver Hannon-Dalby is caught behind by wicketkeeper Lewis McManus.

Most likely still a draw this, but those early-morning innings widen the door ever so slightly for a result if Northants score, or lose wickets, quickly.

  20. 50 runs

Half-century for Billy Rootpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 29 June 2022

    Worcestershire 271 & 199, Glamorgan 139 & 247-5

Billy Root reaches 50 - for the 13th time in first-class cricket - as Glamorgan make a tidy start, chasing the 100 still needed to beat Worcestershire.

The target is already down to 85.
