  1. Crucial period at Northamptonpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

    Northants 235 & 174 v Lancashire 132 & 68-2

This is a crunch period of play at Wantage Road.

Steven Croft and Josh Bohannon are digging in for Lancashire, as Northants know if they could remove one of this pair, they would be red hot favourites for a second successive Championship victory.

  2. Somerset lead over 300published at 17:37 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

    Somerset 424 & 158-3 v Yorkshire 276

Somerset continue to motor along, with all the momentum on their side.

Lewis Goldsworthy gets two boundaries off another Dom Bess over and they are getting themselves into a position where they could easily declare tonight.

The advantage is 306 and there are a scheduled 18 overs left on day three.

  3. Simon Harmer tamed?published at 17:34 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

Surrey 40-0 (chasing 161 to win) v Essex

Five overs from Simon Harmer so far.

Only three runs scored, but no wickets.

40-0 from 20 overs. Slow and steady wins the race.

Rory Burns has made 29 of those 40 runs. Ryan Patel is becalmed on 7. And Essex have been unsuccessfiul in an attempt to get the ball changed.

18 overs left in the day.

  4. Two hours left at Cheltenhampublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

    Gloucestershire 201 & 91-3 v Hampshire

In theory, we have 29 overs left, and a finish of around 7.30pm.

But after three overs of Keith Barker, which included the wicket of Ollie Price, he has gone off to be replaced by Felix Organ.

Umpire Graham Lloyd has taken a light reading, so it would be a huge surprise if all those overs are bowled.

  5. 50 runs

for Miles Hammondpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

    Gloucestershire 201 & 91-3 v Hampshire 457

A nice stroke off Liam Dawson gets Miles Hammond a tenth four and brings up his 50.

His highest score this season is 75 not out and this is a real chance to beat that, and make a crucial contribution for his team.

  6. wicket

    WICKET - Billings c Burgess b Miles 7published at 17:28 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

    Kent 165 & 322-7, Warwickshire 225

Sam Billings is next to go at Edgbaston as Warwickshire claim a third wicket of the session.

It's a third wicket of the innings for seamer Craig Miles.

New man in is Matt Milnes.

  7. Division Two updatepublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

Derbyshire have started nicely in their second innings, reaching 30-0 as they follow-on against Nottinghamshire.

Sussex have eked out another wicket at Lord's with Luke Hollman (12) out. Middlesex are 335-6, needing to reach 372 to avoid the follow-on.

Of course, it's only the second day at Grace Road where Glamorgan are 87-2 after Leicestershire's mammoth 584.

  8. Different outlook now at Edgbastonpublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

    Kent 165 & 322-6, Warwickshire 225

    Mike Taylor

It may be that the unhappy weather forecast for tomorrow makes the eventual target set by Kent irrelevant, but Warwickshire’s difficulties in bowling sides out has once again been made obvious this afternoon.

At midday on Tuesday, after Oliver Hannon-Dalby’s opening five-wicket salvo, it could hardly have been conceived that losing time to the weather would be an issue.

But a 196-run partnership, breaking a Kent fifth-wicket record against Warwickshire from Victorian times, between centurion Joe Denly and Jordan Cox has put the visitors in a much healthier position.

Targets of well over 300 have already been chased here this season, and Warwickshire are likely to face that size of challenge – if conditions permit.

  9. Michael Buble and county cricketpublished at 17:21 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

There are few places quite as synonymous with county cricket as Hove and the St Lawrence Ground at Canterbury.

We don't know if Michael Buble has enjoyed a day watching a four-day game in these glorious surroundings, but he has decided to perform there.

It's also doubtful if he could recount glorious performances from Ted Dexter or Colin Cowdrey, but the Canadian crooner is at Hove tonight and then Canterbury on Saturday.

  10. wicket

    WICKET - Denly c Sibley b Miles 141published at 17:21 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

    Kent 165 & 321-6, Warwickshire 225

After 269 balls and just 13 minutes short of six hours at the crease, Joe Denly is finally out.

It's a second wicket for Craig Miles - and the Kent lead is now up to 261 as Matt Henry comes out to join his captain Sam Billings.

  11. wicket

    WICKET O Price c Vince b Barker 20published at 17:16 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

    Gloucestershire 201 & 77-3 v Hampshire 457

    Golden arm Keith Barker strikes!

He is allowed to bowl again after a spell of dodgy light and he only needs one ball.

Ollie Price goes for a pull shot but picks out James Vince at midwicket and after 90 minutes of graft, Price has to go.

  12. wicket

WICKET Wells lbw b Taylor 26published at 17:06 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

    Northants 235 & 174 v Lancashire 132 & 48-2

    Famous last words!

Tom Taylor with the breakthrough in his second over as he hits Luke Wells on the pads and gets the decision he wants.

The batter is not happy as he departs, but it's a big wicket for Northants.

  13. Wells the anchorpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

    Northants 235 & 174 v Lancashire 132

Luke Wells finds successive boundaries. The first goes beyond the large slip cordon but the next one off Ben Sanderson is short and wide and Wells helps himself to an easy four.

Wells is up to 26. Last month, he hit an unbeaten 175 as Lancashire chased 329 to win at Edgbaston and he will want to anchor the innings again.

  14. wicket

    WICKET Abell c Kohler-Cadmore b Bess 10published at 16:57 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

    Somerset 424 & 114-3 v Yorkshire 276

A brief stay from Tom Abell, but the Somerset skipper probably won't be too unhappy.

Dom Bess gets one to bounce and it comes off Abell's bat and is taken by Tom Kohler-Cadmore at slip.

With Jack Leach in the ranks, Somerset won't mind seeing that, given their advantage of 262.

  15. Surrey off to sound startpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

Surrey 30-0 v Essex (chasing 161 to win)

Surrey's openers Rory Burns (20) and Ryan Patel are off to a decent start in pursuit of a sixth Championship win of the season.

Needing 161, and with a day and a half to get them, they have made 30 off the first nine overs.

But Essex's prolific offspinner Simon Harmer is now coming on to bowl from the Pavilion End at the two left-handers.

    A telling moment?

  16. Somerset on the charge, but this is nothingpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

    Somerset 424 & 106-2 v Yorkshire 276

After 20 overs of their second innings Somerset have reached 106-2, as they look to set a target for Yorkshire.

They are racing along at more than five an over but don't forget in their last game at Taunton, they smashed a record 265 in 20 overs against Derbyshire in the T20 Blast quarter-final.

  17. wicket

    WICKET - Cox c Rhodes b Briggs 79published at 16:41 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

    Kent 165 & 301-5, Warwickshire 225

The teabreak does the trick for Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

Jordan Cox attempts a lofted shot on the offside off spinner Danny Briggs - and Bears skipper Will Rhodes gratefully pouches the catch.

His stand with Joe Denly was worth 196.

The new man in is Kent skipper Sam Billings.

  18. wicket

WICKET Lammonby c Lyth b Shutt 46published at 16:39 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

    Somerset 424 & 88-2 v Yorkshire 276

    Four, six, OUT.

In the quest for quick runs, Tom Lammonby pummels Jack Shutt for a four and a six but is then caught, chipping it to Adam Lyth at cover.

Somerset's intent is clear, though. They lead by 236.
