  1. Spin on at Old Traffordpublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Lancashire 145 v Kent 51-3

Washington Sundar has been thrown the ball for Lancashire with his off-breaks.

But the Kent batters will view it as a success that they have seen off the seamers since lunch.

With 28 not out from 80 balls, Joe Denly is playing a fine knock in the circumstances for his team.

  2. wicket

    WICKET - Foakes lbw b Hannon-Dalby 31published at 14:36 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Warwickshire 253, Surrey 127-4

Oliver Hannon-Dalby strikes again for a second scalp to take his County Championship wicket tally to 45 for the season.

He is bowling well here - and now has Ben Foakes trapped leg before, for 31.

Ollie Pope has become restrained on 44 as he is joined by Will Jacks.

  3. wicket

    WICKET - Rossington c Renshaw b Lammonby 32published at 14:22 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Essex 414-6 v Somerset

Adam Rossington is gone. A third wicket for Tom Lammonby.

Nick Browne is still there on 192, now joined by Simon Harmer.

Expect the scoring rate to speed up now.

  4. wicket

WICKET - Gubbins lbw b Coad 4published at 14:20 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Yorkshire 159, Hampshire 12-3

A second wicket for Ben Coad.

Nick Gubbins makes a misjudgement against the fit-again Yorkshire paceman - and Coad wins the LBW verdict.

That brings visiting skipper James Vince to the wicket.

He got a big hundred here last time Hampshire played at Scarborough in 2012. His side could do with something similar from him now.

  5. Back underway at Scarboroughpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Yorkshire 159, Hampshire 5-2 (4 overs)

We now have play in all eight Championship games again as Jordan Thompson gets to complete his interrupted second over.

The brollies are down - but they've not been packed away completely.

  6. Division Two updatepublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

Joe Leach has removed Derbyshire's Brooke Guest as they are 53-2, still two behind Worcestershire.

A fourth wicket for Ollie Robinson as he bowls Ben Slater for 55. Nottinghamshire are now 111-5 against Sussex.

Durham's nice progress at home to Middlesex continues as they have moved to 233-1.

  7. Postpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Lancashire 145 v Kent 40-3

Joe Denly flashes one just beyond the reach of Josh Bohannon at mid-off, but it is a sign that Kent are going to be more positive after survival this morning.

  8. 50 runs

for Ryan Rickeltonpublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Gloucestershire 317 v Northants 151-2

    Ryan RickeltonImage source, Getty Images

Ryan Rickelton picks up two and that is another half century for the South Africa batter.

A third 50 to go with two hundreds in his stint for Northants for this player who averages more than 50 in first-class cricket.

  9. 50 runs

Half-century stand for Browne & Rossingtonpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Essex 401-5 (132 overs) v Somerset

Half-century partnership for Nick Browne and Adam Rossington at Chelmsford.

It's the fourth Browne has been involved with in this Essex innings as, on 184, he homes in on what would be the fourth double century of his career.

Rossington is on 28 as Essex go past 400.

  10. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Lancashire 145 v Kent 24-3

We should have had a wicket with the second ball of the afternoon session!

Jack Leaning edges uppishly off Will Williams, but Rob Jones can only parry above his head at second slip.

    How costly will that be?

  11. A hint of blue offers hope to batterspublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Lancashire 145 v Kent 24-3

    Old TraffordImage source, BBC Sport

After a morning under heavy grey skies and a muggy atmosphere and a lively pitch, batters will be delighted by the appearance of some blue sky above Old Trafford.

After just 57 runs for nine wickets this morning, surely this afternoon will play a little bit easier.

  12. Better news at Scarbroroughpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Yorkshire 159, Hampshire 5-2

Play back underway in all the other seven games, although not at Scarborough.

But a restart is planned at North Marine Road. In 25 minutes' time.

    Time for pudding then?

  13. Let's get back to three-day cricketpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Essex 365-4 v Somerset

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

At a time when the eyes of the cricketing world are fixed on the format for the County Championship, this morning's cricket was not, in all honesty, a great advertisement for the four-day game.

For the third session out of four, Essex ground out 83 runs.

Nick Browne took his overnight 129 on to 168 not out and the part-time left-arm seam of Tom Lammonby picked up two wickets.

In a variation on Parkinson's law, the pace of a game of cricket tends to adjust to the time available, and this morning's pace was steady, at best.

If the cricket powers-that-be are determined to cut the time available for red-ball county cricket to 48 per season, that time might perhaps be more entertainingly occupied by 16 games of three-day cricket.

Two divisions of nine, each county playing all the others home and away, than 12 games of four days.

  14. rain stops play

Scarborough weather updatepublished at 13:38 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Yorkshire 159, Hampshire 5-2

Still to restart after their early lunch at Scarborough.

But umpires Peter Hartley and Neil Mallender are at least due to inspect again shortlyl

Only 32 balls possible so far today!

  15. Durham's morning at the Riversidepublished at 13:30 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Druahm 203-1 (73 overs) v Middlesex

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

It was a rather slow morning for bat and ball at Chester-le-Street but Middlesex eventually found a way past the hosts' opening pair.

Alex Lees had one seam back through the gate to be bowled by Toby Roland-Jones just shy of his fifty in an opening stand worth 141.

The visitors won a long battle with the umpires for a replacement ball after 40 overs - and the one they ended up with certainly had a little more life in it but the track is overall a slow one.

A great deal of grass was left on to keep the seamers interested but it is the batters that are winning the day at present - this side of the square has been less in the favour of the bowlers all season according to local knowledge.

  16. 'A result' on the cards, but for who?published at 13:25 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Lancashire 145, Kent 24-3

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

'We want a result wicket, and we know what we need to do.'

That was Luke Wells speaking to me last night - and his 35 so far remains the top score in this match.

Lancashire need to win. They've got to keep winning to keep up with the leaders.

Nine wickets in the morning session for just 57 runs and it would appear Lancashire have got a pitch which will produce a result.

As for who, I've no idea!

It has been a breathless morning - and Lancashire have every chance of a first innings lead.

Fresh from a match-winning century at Edgbaston last week, Joe Denly's 12 not out from 45 balls has so far been a masterclass on how to survive on this pitch. How long can he go on for?

    Lancashire 145 v Kent 24-3

A frantic session with nine wickets falling for only 57 runs.

Almost a tenth, too, off the penultimate ball, with Joe Denly nearly run out.

    And breathe...

  19. Lunch at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Durham 203-1 v Middlesex

A first batting point for Durham with Michael Jones unbeaten on 119 at the break.

  20. Lunch at Worcesterpublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Worcestershire 185 v Derbyshire 130 & 37-1

    Dan Wheeler
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

Derbyshire's Luis Reece has been adjudged LBW just before lunch as this match continues apace.

What a match we have now. After being under the pump for much of it so far, Derbyshire have hauled themselves back into contention after an excellent morning.

Ben Aitchison's three-wicket burst sucked the momentum out of the Pears' effort to turn their 11-run lead into something much more substantial. When Ed Barnard was last out for 38, Worcestershire had lost their last five wickets for 44 in 12 overs.

Luis Reece was then done by a grubber from Joe Leach, but for Derbyshire to be only 18 adrift with nine still in the tank is a situation that looked fanciful for much of yesterday.

There is that troubling undertone that there is a ball with your name on it, but any lead around 150 will take some chasing.
