  1. wicket

WICKET Gay lbw b Payne 15published at 11:21 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Gloucestershire 317 v Northants 46-1

First wicket of the day at Cheltenham and it's gone to David Payne.

The 31-year-old, who made his England ODI debut against the Netherlands last month, traps Emilio Gay in front.

  2. Postpublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Gloucestershire 317 v Northants 40-0

Northants opener Emilio Gay has just stroked a lovely drive for four off Zak Chappell.

It has all been a rather sedate start in the genteel surroundings of Cheltenham College.

  3. wicket

    WICKET - McAndrew c Pope b Roach 44published at 11:14 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Warwickshire 250-9 v Surrey

Warwickshire prise a second batting bonus point, but then immediately lose a wicket.

Aussie Nathan McAndrew is undone for pace by West Indies fast bowler Kemar Roach, who picks up his first wicket of the innings.

Last man in to join Liam Norwell is Oliver Hannon-Dalby.

OHD has worked on his batting considerably over the winter months and has got a lot of 'previous' this season for proving a very annoying, limpet-like last man. His crease occupation now amounts to well over seven hours, over the course of the summer.

  4. wicket

YORKSHIRE BOWLED OUT FOR 159published at 11:11 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Thompson c Dawson b Abbott 6

Hampshire have taken just 11 balls this morning to wrap up the Yorkshire innings.

Both to Kyle Abbott, who ends up with six wickets.

A season's best 6-36. And all the last six too, after Keith Barker got things started yesterday morning and then Mohammad Abbas took the next three.

Jordan Thompson is last man out.

Let's now see how Hampshire fare on this track?

  5. Pears in better shape than Derbyshirepublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Derbyshire 130, Worcestershire 147-5

    Dan Wheeler
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

There's no doubt you'd rather be in Worcestershire's position after a hectic first day at New Road, but the late losses of Jack Haynes and Kashif Ali definitely took the edge off.

Their dismissals - both to wide ones they might have left alone - meant the Pears went from 120-3, only 10 behind, to 141-5, 11 ahead when play ended early. While Derbyshire will clearly not be cock-a-hoop, they know the situation could look a lot worse.

It still might get worse, despite the pitch unlikely to surrender its assistance to the bowlers.

Ed Barnard is still there and, with more than 700 runs and three tons in his last summer at the club before moving to Warwickshire, he has the chance to secure a match-winning lead.

  6. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Lancashire 112-6 v Kent

Should have been a third wicket of the morning at Old Trafford!

Navdeep Saini gets one to bounce on stand-in Lancashire captain Steven Croft and he can only edge behind, but Jordan Cox cannot cling on.

That's where Kent captain Sam Billings - out with Covid - would have made no mistake.

  7. wicket

WICKET Lavelle c Crawley b Henry 0published at 11:04 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Lancashire 112-6 v Kent

What we were saying about Kent sniffing blood?!

More terrific bowling from Matt Henry as the New Zealand quick gets the ball in the perfect spot, on or around off and George Lavelle's edge flies straight into the hands of Zak Crawley at first slip.

Henry had four balls to complete of his over from overnight and it has gone - Dot-Wicket-Dot-Wicket.

    Fantastic!

  8. wicket

    WICKET - Patterson c Brown b Abbott 0published at 11:03 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Yorkshire 158-9 v Hampshire

Early wicket for Hampshire at Scarborough.

Kyle Abbott strikes with his third ball of the morning as he has Yorkshire skipper Steve Patterson caught behind.

  9. wicket

WICKET Sundar b Henry 6published at 11:01 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Lancashire 112-5 v Kent

    No messing about here!!

Matt Henry's second ball of the morning is right on the money and Washington Sundar is cleaned up as he offers no stroke.

With overcast skies here at Old Trafford, Kent may fancy their chances of sweeping through the Lancashire batting.

  10. Jimmy Anderson in actionpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Lancashire 112-4 v Kent

    Jimmy AndersonImage source, BBC Sport

While the rest of the Lancashire and Kent players have been doing their morning warm-ups, the sight of one player away from those caught the eye.

Jimmy Anderson, he of the England record 657 Test wickets, has been going through plenty of bowling on the Old Trafford square as he steps up preparations for the South Africa series.

Anderson was bowling to former England bowler Graeme Onions, who is now a member of Lancashire's coaching set-up.

Anderson last played in the India Test at Edgbaston which finished on 5 July.

The first Test against the Proteas starts at Lord's on 17 August.

Weather outlookpublished at 10:54 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

The official wording from the BBC Weather page highlights "a mixture of sunny spells, patchy cloud and scattered showers for most, but drier in the south-west.

"Staying cloudier for central and eastern England, however.

    "A calmer day."

    Could swing then?

  13. Sam Billings out with Covidpublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

    Lancashire 112-4 v Kent (11.00BST)

News this morning from the Kent camp at Old Trafford, where captain Sam Billings has tested positive for Covid.

Billings, who took a county record 12 dismissals against Warwickshire last week, will be replaced as skipper by Jack Leaning.

Ollie Robinson is travelling up to take over as wicketkeeper as a Covid replacement while Jordan Cox will have the gloves if needed before then.

  15. Good Morning and Welcomepublished at 10:49 British Summer Time 26 July 2022

Essex opener Nick BrowneImage source, Rex Features

Good morning - and welcome back for another seven or eight hours of cricketing fun for all of us thankfully still many County Championship lovers.

What a day Monday was for the purists. More old-school red ball than Bazball, that's for sure, at Chelmsford, where Essex opener Nick Browne batted all day to graft the day's only century - and they finished on time!!!

There was a good, competitive full day's play at Cheltenham and, although there were only half-measures at another of England's favourite out-grounds, rain-hit Scarborough, what the spectators saw was gripping. Six early wickets for Hampshire, followed by a Dom Bess/Will Fraine-inspired fightback, both of whom were removed by Kyle Abbott before the weather intervened again.

Least entertaining were Warwickshire at The Oval, where Surrey old boy Dom Sibley top scored on one of his last games for the Bears prior to his end of season return to Kennington.

But at least the injury-hit, weakened reigning champions showed commendable grit to bat all day for 240-8 - an excellent show of spirit in the wake of their two recent embarrassments at Edgbaston, their T20 Blast quarter-final capitulation at home to Hampshire, then Friday's flop against Kent .

Worst-hit weather-wise yesterday were Lancashire and Kent, who managed to get in less than three hours at Old Trafford - and, in Division Two, they also lost over half a day at the Riverside in the Durham-Middlesex game.

But 15 wickets tumbled at green-tinged New Road in the furthest advanced game between Worcestershire and Derbyshire - and they are also due to get going today at Trent Bridge, where Div 2 leaders Nottinghamshire host Sussex.
