    Glamorgan v Worcestershire 285-7

Joe Leach plays out a maiden from spinner Ajaz Patel to round off a keenly contested opening day at Sophia Gardens.

Worcestershire were in trouble on 114-4 when Ed Pollock was out for 54, but a partnership of 127 between Ed Barnard and Gareth Roderick has made it more of an even-steven day.

Barnard was lbw for 75, trying to sweep Patel, but Roderick was resume on 88 not out on day two, having hit 11 fours and faced 222 deliveries.

  2. wicket

    Notts 201 v Leics 65-7

Another one gone at Trent Bridge as Roman Walker becomes Brett Hutton's second victim, caught at third slip.

That was a good catch by Lyndon James, but you have to wonder why he was attempting that stroke.

  3. Postpublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Somerset v Gloucs 310-5

A couple of twos for Marcus Harris off Jack Brooks and there are three overs left for the day at Taunton.

Gloucestershire will surely be avoiding risks now as they try to see what has been a highly satisfactory day through to a close, thanks mainly to Harris' unbeaten century.

    Hants 198-5 v Northants

Aneurin Donald is down the track to cover drive Rob Keogh for four.

And he's at it again as a lofted drive back over the spinner's head brings him the same reward.

Donald is 21 not out and Liam Dawson has 20.

    Lancashire 252-6 v Yorkshire

George Lavelle tickles one down to fine leg for Lancashire's first run for 18 balls.

Yorkshire have tightened the screw under the lights at Old Trafford thanks to George Hill and the home team's hopes of a big first innings total appear to be over.

  6. Lloyd backs shorter Championshippublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    David LloydImage source, Rex Features

David Lloyd has been part of the BBC Radio Lancashire commentary team at the Rose match today. Here's what he had to say about the future of the County Championship:

"From a coach's point of view, it is impossible to get the best out of the players (with the current schedule). I worked with Wasim Akram, one of the greatest ever fast bowlers, and he couldn't physically do it on a daily basis.

"I would play 10 Championship games. I want the spectator to see the best possible performance and my caveat to that would be to play it at the height of summer.

"I love the County Championship to bits. It has given me a wonderful living. It is the starting point for all players as you learn your trade in Championship cricket.

"But I want to see the players absolutely honed and ready to go. You don't want a fast bowler bowling medium pace because he's absolutely shattered."

  7. Foxes collapse continuespublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Notts 201 v Leics 59-6

At this rate, Leicestershire will be lucky to survive to the end of play.

Ed Barnes was the last man to go, lbw to Brett Hutton for nine, and opener Sam Evans is fighting a pretty much lone hand on 32 not out.

There are 13 left at Trent Bridge.

George Balderson has been and gone in four balls.

    A double wicket-maiden for the 21-year-old. His figures now - 15-4-24-6!

  10. Five-wicket haul for George Hillpublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Lancashire 251-5 v Yorkshire

Five for George Hill!!! The first of his career.

This time, he gets an edge from Steven Croft and it flies into the hands of Tom Kohler-Cadmore again at first slip. Croft goes for 12 and Lancashire have lost four for 20.

Hill has figures of 5-24 in his 15th over. Outstanding stuff from Yorkshire's sixth bowler!

    Hants 186-5 v Northants

An expensive over from Lizaad Williams as Aneurin Donald helps himself to three boundaries.

There is a touch of away swing for the first but Donald manages to find a gap with a slightly airy drive.

The next is gloved down to fine leg and the third driven back past the bowler's left hand.

    Somerset v Gloucs 294-5

No shot offered by Graeme van Buuren - a fatal misjudgement.

The ball jags back off the seam and knocks out his off stump.

Jack Taylor is the new batter and is off the mark with four from his second ball faced.

  14. 300 runs

for Essexpublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

WICKET Organ c Vasconcelos b White 71published at 17:16 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Hants 167-5 v Northants

An ungainly dismissal for Felix Organ.

He tries to force the ball away off the back foot but it cuts back and one hand comes off the handle as he inside edges to the keeper.

That's is Jack White's second wicket and he has 2-27 from 12 impressive overs.

    Lancashire 250-4 v Yorkshire

The new ball has worked for Glamorgan, with Brett D'Oliveira and Ben Cox removed in successive overs by James Harris and Michael Hogan. Gareth Roderick has 83 and Worcestershire are 263-7.

Derbyshire have slumped from 255-5 to 270-8 against Durham, with Ben Aitchison the latest to go, lbw to Chris Rushworth, who has 3-54.

  18. wicket

WICKET Bracey c Rew b Davey 0published at 17:06 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Somerset v Gloucs 281-4

That should make Somerset feel a bit better.

Josh Davey has Miles Hammond caught at second slip for seven and two balls later adds the wicket of James Bracey, who edges one that leaves him off the pitch to the keeper.

Graeme van Buuren is the new batter and Marcus Harris is still there on 145.

He induces a loose drive off Josh Bohannon and debutant Fin Bean takes a good low catch at short extra cover.

Hill now has 3-22 and he is single-handedly putting a brake on this Lancashire innings.

  20. Postpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Hants 162-4 v Northants

Tom Taylor really needs to pitch it up more.

Another short one, at the start of a new over, is dabbed to third man for four by Felix Organ.

The next is a better length, but Organ pushes forward with soft hands and collects another boundary in a similar direction.

He is now 70 not out, with Liam Dawson on eight - and there are still 25 overs scheduled to be bowled.
