Nottinghamshire skipper Steven Mullaney decides to bring himself on to bowl and it's an inspired move as he strikes with his second delivery.

Hassan Azad plays across the line but fails to make contact with the ball and he is gone.

Just eight more wickets needed now for a Notts victory.

  3. Postpublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Somerset 248 v Gloucs 343 & 27-0 lead by 122

A flashing drive and miss by Harris off Brooks.

The next ball is cut to backward point for a single.

Charlesworth leaves judiciously outside the off stump.

  4. Postpublished at 11:59 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Lancs 296 v Yorks 192-6

Spin now from both ends for Lancashire with successive maidens from Tom Hartley and Matt Parkinson.

Wonder how long Tom Kohler-Cadmore will be satisfied with blocking.

He's 50 not out at the moment.

  5. wicket

WICKET Podmore c Rossington b Allison 13published at 11:58 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Kent 134-8 v Essex 573

Well this was a fun little stay from Harry Podmore.

He edges four wide of third slip, then is badly dropped at first slip for another boundary before driving beautifully straight for four more.

Ben Allison then sends a length ball in the channel and Podmore is squared up and nicks off

  6. Postpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Somerset 248 v Gloucs 343 & 24-0 lead by 119

Do Gloucestershire have a target in mind for some time tonight? 300 would be handy.

The forecast tomorrow is grim so they'll be keen to bowl again before stumps.

Harris drives a Gregory half volley to cover but can't get the ball past Sajid Khan who picks up and throws rapidly to the stumps. Harris is safe.

  7. wicket

WICKET Cobb c Holland b Barker 2published at 11:53 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Hants 400-9d v Northants 94-3

    Keith BarkerImage source, Rex

Northants in a spot of bother now.

Number five seems a little high for white-ball specialist Josh Cobb.

And he only manages 12 balls before pulling Keith Barker straight to midwicket.

Second very cheap dismissal of the morning.

    Hampshire won’t care.

  8. Postpublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Somerset 248 v Gloucs 343 & 19-0 lead by 114

Gregory is getting the ball to swing here, but frustratingly for him too late to trouble Marcus Harris, as another ball curves away after passing the off stump.

Jack Brooks takes over from Davey at the River End.

Charlesworth defends late to counter the inswing. Maiden over.

  9. 50 runs

for Shubman Gillpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Glamorgan 157-5 v Worcs 454-9 dec

India's Shubman Gill marks his first Glamorgan appearance with an 87-ball half-century - and he brings it up in glorious style with an on-drive off Dillion Pennington.

It's a stroke very reminiscent of the one played by Geoff Boycott to reach his 100th hundred against Australia in 1977.

Btw, Pennington didn't manage a hat-trick (see 11:27 entry) after dismissing Sam Northeast and Kiran Carlson with successive deliveries.

  10. wicket

WICKET Stewart c Rossington b Allison 2published at 11:47 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Kent 120-7 v Essex 573

Kent have found no resistance at all so far this morning.

Grant Stewart only lasts seven balls.

He nudges firmly at a length ball outside off.

It leaves him a fraction and takes the edge through to the wicketkeeper.

A third wicket for Essex in little over an hour.

  11. 50 runs

for Tom Kohler-Cadmorepublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Lancs 276 v Yorks 187-6

Last Saturday, Tom Kohler-Cadmore was in the Trent Rockets side that won The Hundred final at Lord's.

Today, he has reached 50 from 121 balls with a single off Tom Hartley.

It's only the second time he has done so in the Championship this summer - the first time he went on to make exactly 100 against Somerset, the team he will join in 2023.

  12. Postpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Somerset 248 v Gloucs 343 & 17-0 - lead by 112

Shot! Charlesworth unfurls a silky drive through the covers off Davey for his first four.

The next ball nips away from Charlesworth off the pitch and he drives at thin air.

Charlesworth leaves the fifth ball and blocks the sixth.

By the way - lunch will be taken at 12.40 here, following the delayed start this morning.

  13. Postpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Somerset 248 v Gloucs 343 & 13-0

Josh Davey picks up his second maiden in a row.

Tidy enough but little movement off the seam for him thus far.

Harris is half forward to Gregory, who is getting the ball to move - and he's hit on the pads by an off cutter.

A close call for LBW is turned down.

Gregory overpitches and Harris whips the bowler through the on side for four.

  14. Postpublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Notts 201 & 390-7 dec v Leics 93 & 71-1

Twenty wickets fell on the opening day at Trent Bridge.

It's much harder work for bowlers now and Brett Hutton gives away four runs as he strays onto Louis Kimber's pads in his latest over.

  15. wicket

WICKET Billings c Rossington b Allison 0published at 11:36 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Kent 105-6 v Essex 573

The good news for Kent was that Sam Billings was fit to bat after being off the field injured yesterday.

The bad news is that he’s made a nine-ball duck.

Pushes at a full hall he should leave and nicks behind.

  16. wicket

WICKET Gay c Organ b Barker 33published at 11:35 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Hants 400-9d v Northants 80-2

    Oh dear Emilio Gay.

Worked so hard yesterday to get through a tricky period against the new ball.

But can’t go on this morning.

He tamely chips a length ball to midwicket.

    Huge early boost for Hampshire.

  17. Postpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Lancs 276 v Yorks 176-6

Lancashire have made their first bowling change of the day, with spinner Tom Hartley relieving Tom Bailey.

His latest over is right on the money and costs him just a single by Dom Bess.

He is 11 not out and TKC is on 43.

  18. Postpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Somerset 248 v Gloucs 343 & 5-0

Gregory beats Harris with a beauty that moves away on a good length.

The next ball cuts into the pads and an LBW appeal is turned down by umpire Tom Lungley.

    Maiden over.

  19. Postpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Somerset 248 v Gloucs 343 & 5-0

A two and a no ball comes from Gregory first up.

Josh Davey will bowl the second over.

Harris gets off strike first ball with a bye and Charlesworth defends. The lead is up to 100.

  20. wicket

WICKET Northeast b Pennington 10published at 11:27 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Glamorgan 146-5 v Worcs 454-9 dec

Sam Northeast scored 410 not out in his previous Championship innings against Leicestershire in July.

He falls 400 short of that score this time as Dillon Pennington cuts one back off the pitch and hits middle and off.

Kiran Carlson edges the next ball to first slip - Pennington is on a hat-trick.
