That is a much-needed boundary for Afghanistan.
Chris Woakes starts brilliantly with four dot balls, putting Hazratullah Zazai under real pressure.
But he responds perfectly with a perfectly timed upper cut over the off-side for four runs.
England will be happy with this start though, and it's going to be tough going for Afghanistan. But they are holding their own pretty well at the moment.
Mark Wood hits 94mph from his final ball.
A frighteningly fast over brings England a wicket and concedes just four runs.
But the quicker it comes, the quicker it travels.
Mark Wood overpitches and all Ibrahim Zadran has to do is plonk the bat down and it races through the covers for four.

That is a big blow to Afghanistan. Gurbaz is someone who would have got the bulk of the runs.

Gurbaz stands there and stares down the pitch. He turns and starts his way off. Wood thought it was out straight away and leapt into the air.

Mark Wood strikes with his first ball!
It's full, it's fast and Gurbaz can do nothing but get a faint edge on it through to Jos Buttler behind the stumps and England enjoyed that one.
Wood is straight into his work. He bowled so quickly in the series leading up to this game, hitting upwards of 95mph, and England are going to need him at his very best during the tournament.

It's a steady start. I get the impression on this pitch that it has bounce but not much pace. It's more of a sticky upward bounce.
Woakes responds well, just a single coming from the last three balls.
Looking at some of England's players and Moeen Ali has impressively matched his spikes to the exact same colour as the playing shirt. You've got to rate that commitment.

That's a terrific shot. He flicked it down legside, helped it on its way, and it flew all the way for the maximum.
Oh, wow. What a remarkable shot this is!
Chris Woakes bowls a pretty standard line and length but Gurbaz gets down on one knee and slog sweeps him over his shoulder for six! So good.

That was a little carrot thrown by Stokes.
Good pace and carry from Stokes as Rahmanullah Gurbaz tries to swat a couple from outside off stump into the stands but is unable to connect.
He takes a single from the last ball and that's a measured start from Afghanistan, who are always an entertaining team to watch.

Jerusalem faintly echos around the Perth Stadium…
A dot ball to start proceedings, followed by Afghanistan's first run as Hazratullah Zazai sneaks a single into the leg-side.
Interesting move from England, with Ben Stokes bowling the first over.
Hazratullah Zazai is the Afghanistan batter on strike and Rahmanullah Gurbaz at the other end.
England get into a huddle on the outfield after the anthems and it's time to get going.
Also why does every kit feel so underwhelming compared to New Zealand's? I'm genuinely obsessed with it.
Just looking at the batting depth of England's line-up and it is ridiculous, isn't it?
Sam Curran at eight (who has opened in the IPL!) and Chris Woakes at nine. But does it leave the bowling a bit light?

This is not going to be a big crowd - the Perth Stadium may be a quarter full - but there are England shirts everywhere. Jos Buttler’s side will be well supported.
