  1. Aus 14-1published at 3 overs

Mitchell Marsh is the new batter for Australia.

You can't bowl there to him though, Barry McCarthy.

Marsh climbs into a pull shot and crashes it away to the square boundary. Serious shot first up.

Barry McCarthy. When it's your night, it's your night.

He has probably bowled that ball lots of times during his career and it would have disappeared to the rope. But unfortunately for David Warner he has tried to flick one off the hip and it has gone straight to the fielder.

    Warner c Adair b McCarthy 3 (Aus 8-1)

Gone! Pulled straight to short fine leg!

A bowling change from Ireland and Barry McCarthy strikes first ball.

It's on the hip of David Warner, who looks to just help it on its way, but he picks out Mark Adair.

That stop at the end of the last over kept Warner on strike and it brings the wicket.

Australia Test captain Pat Cummins was popular with the mascots after the national anthems. Autographs all round.

  5. Aus 8-0published at 2 overs

Oh! Aaron Finch advances down the pitch and tries to flick Mark Adair through the leg-side but a little bit of movement beats the Australia captain. That's a better length from Adair.

He finishes with a rank wide full toss but George Dockrell does brilliantly in the covers to stop David Warner's slap and keep the hosts down to a single.

It has been a good start from Josh Little, but he has not quite bowled the length required for it to swing at the Gabba. Ireland are bowling it back of length, which is not a bad option for these two batters early on.

Australia have won five and lost one T20 international at the Gabba. Ireland will need to be at their very best today.

A tidy start from Josh Little with just five runs taken from the first over. No movement on offer for the left-armer though.

  9. Aus 0-0published at 0.1 overs

Hmmm. Josh Little sends the first ball down the leg side but Chris Gaffaney doesn't signal a wide.

Did it flick the pocket on Warner's trousers? He isn't impressed at all.

The national anthems are over. Plenty of passion, smiling and the odd giggle today.

Josh Little has ball in hand for Ireland. He's been a threat throughout the tournament so far so it'll be key that Australia play him well.

We're actually ready a minute or so early so all the players are going to stand around and wait because why not, eh? Cricket at its best.

Ireland all-rounder Curtis Campher to BBC Test Match Special: "It is a massive game for us. We know what is at stake but as a nation we are just looking forward to playing one of the best. If we put in a good performance today you never know what happens.

"We have a young squad but quite an experienced one. It is great to see different players stand up at different times. It shows we have the versatility to adapt to different situations."

Talking of the weather, we should be absolutely fine in Brisbane today.

Look at those temperatures too. A far cry from the 11 degrees we saw in Perth yesterday.

    BBC weather forecast for Brisbane

And while it is set fair for today, Afghanistan v Sri Lanka (14:00 Brisbane time) and England v New Zealand (18:00 Brisbane time) could be in danger tomorrow if the forecast is correct.

The likes of Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie will put you under pressure at the top of the Ireland batting order and keep coming at you. That's their nature.

They are a decent side. They have played a lot of cricket against the likes of Afghanistan and Bangladesh, so they have become better over time.

In terms of their bowling, Josh Little has been picking up wickets, playing in leagues around the world over the last 12-18 months.

The only thing I would say is playing at the MCG and playing here is slightly different. The MCG had a lot in it for the bowlers, especially the type of bowlers Ireland are. They pitch it up, a little bit less paced, a look to get a little bit of nibble. I'm not sure you will get that here and could end up 10 rows back.

The two sides are out at the Gabba for the national anthems.

One of the Ireland players gives their cap to the mascot in front of them and they look genuinely thrilled by the prospect of holding it for them.

    Bless.

This is how Group 1 is set up going into the penultimate round of fixtures.

Only Afghanistan, who are eliminated, know their fate so far.

New Zealand are in pole position to go through to the semi-finals, with England, Ireland and Australia set to tussle for the second spot.

They could end up in any order though, with England still to play New Zealand on Tuesday, although that game could be affected by the Brisbane weather.

There's one change in the Australia side by the way as Adam Zampa returns having tested positive for Covid-19 last week and missing the game against Sri Lanka.

Matthew Wade has since tested positive too, but he hasn't experienced any symptoms so is fine to play.

Ireland are unchanged from their five-run win on the DLS method against England last Wednesday.

Former Australia skipper Michael Clarke has just done the pitch report on the TV.

He says it is incredibly dry and like a day three Test match pitch.

That could make it two-paced and the powerplay, when the ball is harder, should be key, he adds.

Australia captain Aaron Finch: "We would have bowled first as well. It looks like a really good surface so I don't think it'll change too much.

"We haven't spoke about net run-rate as a group. I feel like it's something you earn the right to push throughout the game but it's obviously important after that defeat against New Zealand. You've got to concentrate ball to ball and doing the basics really well and if the opportunity presents you take it but it isn't something you try and force too much.

"We considered two spinners and all combinations, but Ashton Agar is really stiff and we felt with the short boundary on one side here that those overs might run into each other a little bit."

Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie: "It is a big game for us and it is always nice to know what you have to do in the second innings. But we are going to have to bowl pretty well and create chances.

"There's a big excitement in the group. It is not every day you get to play the world champions in their own back yard. We are going to embrace the challenge. It is one they are looking forward to and we can take confidence with what happened last week as well.

"We just want to go toe-to-toe with them as best we can and see what the result is."
