  1. SL 12-0published at 1.3 overs

Chris Woakes, 25 wickets in 24 T20 Internationals, bowls England's next over.

Pathum Nissanka works him for a couple through leg before he jabs the ball into a ground to steal a single.

Good running from Sri Lanka. They know every run is vital.

It seems the England trumpeter is here and a Sri Lankan drummer too.

There doesn't seem to be much swing at all.

  4. SL 9-0published at 1.0 overs

Ben Stokes gets away with a full toss with his penultimate delivery which Kusal Mendis is unable to give the full treatment to. Pathum Nissanka takes a single off the last ball to keep the strike.

Just a long-hop. Ben Stokes will be the first to admit that.

That's the shorter boundary. He's just let the pace of the ball do the work for him!

  7. 6 runs

    SL 6-0published at 0.2 overs

Ben Stokes begins with a dot, but his second delivery is short and sits up. Pathum Nissanka pulls him clinically for six behind square.

We have seen it is tricky to bat in the first 10 overs. Teams who have tried to attack in the powerplay have found themselves losing three or four quick wickets, and the teams being a bit more cautious have more success.

The scoring rate goes through the roof in the second 10.

Anyway, Ben Stokes has ball in hand and is at the top of his mark.

    Pathum Nissanka is on strike.

    Play.

It's the third match on this pitch at the SCG so you feel spin will be crucial. Wanindu Hasaranga is the tournament's top wicket-taker, incidentally, with 13.

More stretches from Stokes. I reckon he's going to bowl first.

England have batted second in 12 T20s in the past year. They've lost nine of them.

The players are just making their way out on the hallowed turf at the SCG for the national anthems. We are not too far away from the start now.

I am backing England 100%. I have got no doubt at all. The team is too good to slip up.

But there's always the danger that someone like Hasaranga comes out and has his best day. You can't underestimate them.

Sri Lanka's preparations have been overseen by an Englishman.

Chris Silverwood coached England between October 2019 and February 2022.

Silverwood, incidentally, has a black belt in karate. So if anyone is to give England the chop in this tournament...

    I'll get my coat.
