Birthday girl Sciver takes Rockets to victory against Spiritpublished at 18:25 British Summer Time 20 August 2022
On her 30th birthday, Nat Sciver inspired Trent Rockets to a comfortable 18-run victory against London Spirit at Trent Bridge.
The England all-rounder and Rockets captain took two wickets in two balls and scored 42 in an impressive display.
She shared a partnership of 97 with opener Bryony Smith, who made 63 from 44 balls, in the Rockets' 142-4.
The Spirit then got off to a good start in the chase hitting 17 off the first 10 balls but Sciver dismissed Australia international Beth Mooney and Alice Monaghan in consecutive deliveries.
Amelia Kerr defended the hat-trick ball but was out for 26, trying to sweep Sarah Glenn and ultimately the Rockets total proved too much for the London outfit.
Rockets now have two wins from four games while the Spirit have three defeats from three.
Smith, who was named Match Hero for her knock said: "We spoke yesterday how partnerships will be the key and we lacked that in the first three games. [Nat Sciver] made it look easy out there and it's her birthday as well so well done!"
Here's what else happened:
- Bryony Smith was on 16 off 16 at one stage before ending on 63 off 44. Her knock included eight fours and two sixes - one of which measured a huge 72m.
- Rockets were 136-1 with ten balls remaining but finished on 142-4 with Megan Schutt’s last five balls going for just one bye.
- Alana King, the hat trick hero from last weekend, took just two balls to strike, trapping Grace Scrivens plumb.
- The ice cream kid!
