This is going to be a key partnership. Luus and Wolvaardt need to stick around a bit.

A wicket maiden for Katherine Brunt.
She appeals for an lbw shout and a second wicket off the final ball, but is there bat on it? There is.
Another good decision from Anna Harris.

Katherine Brunt doing what Katherine Brunt does best. She had Goodall in all sorts of trouble a couple of balls earlier. She goes across the left-hander, takes a thick edge and comfortably taken. After dropping the catch earlier, Heather Knight kisses the ball.
Goodall c Knight b Brunt 5 (SA 34-2)
That one is out though!
Katherine Brunt angles one across Lara Goodall and draws the outside edge and England captain Heather Knight takes a simple catch at waist height.
Brunt wheels off in celebration and lets out a big roar of delight. She's definitely still enjoying this.

That's one of the first wrong decisions we've seen from Anna Harris this summer.
Oh! Good review!
The ball tracker shows that is just pitching outside leg, by an inch or so, and Lara Goodall survives.

It's going to have to be a shocker from Anna Harris for this to be overturned. It did look out to me.
Katherine Brunt has got Lara Goodall lbw!
But the left hander decides to send it upstairs after a brief chat from Lara Goodall.

Goodall has picked that gap well. She's a classical player as we saw in the Test and good through the leg-side. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some spin soon.
A productive over for South Africa.
Laura Wolvaardt caresses a drive away for a couple, before flashing down to third for one.
Lara Goodall then perfectly finds the gap between mid-wicket and mid-on to pick up her first boundary. That was lovely placement.
A change for England, as Kate Cross replaces Nat Sciver.
Cross looks like she'll still play the same role as first-change bowler and try and find breakthroughs in the middle overs despite the retirement of Anya Shrubsole.

An impressive start from Katherine Brunt. That's the Brunt we have seen for England for many years.
Left hander Lara Goodall plays out the rest of the over.
It's an absolutely beautiful day in Northampton. There's barely a cloud in the sky.

Katherine has started really well today, found her line, found her length and that is plumb. She'll be really pleased to get a wicket on the board in her first game of the international summer.
Steyn lbw b Brunt 14 (SA 26-1)
Katherine Brunt finds the breakthrough!
How many times have we said that over the years? We might not be saying it for too much longer so we should enjoy it while we can.
She finds a little bit of shape back in and Andrie Steyn plays the wrong line and the ball cannons into the right-handers pads.
It is absolutely plumb - it would have crashed into middle or leg stump.

It is also a lot for Nat Sciver to do if you are asking her to open the bowling as well.

I really hope that as we move through the series Issy Wong and Lauren Bell will be given a go. The next 50-over World Cup is three years away and they are likely to be the forefront of your attack. It is important to give them a chance to build up confidence.
Andrie Steyn, after a very iffy start, is starting to look more settled with those boundaries.
Chat has turned to England's team on Test Match Special. What do you make of England's team? Disappointed not to see Lauren Bell or Issy Wong? Or maybe there is someone not in the squad at all that you'd like to see involved.

Another poor ball from Sciver. More so than Brunt, she has struggled to find her line.

Whipped through the leg-side. That's hit the middle of Steyn's bat. This outfield is rapid today.
