It is possible that England will make changes.

I would love to see Freya Kemp given a go. She could give you some handy overs with the new ball and she's powerful with the bat.

Lauren Bell would bring something different with her height and I'm sure will England will want to give as much experience to their younger players are they can. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bell play.

  3. 'It is all for Jhulan'published at 18:24 British Summer Time 18 September 2022

Player of the match Smriti Mandhana: "I would have enjoyed it a little bit more if I had been not out for the team but first of all thank you to all the Indian crowd for coming over and watching. Wherever we have played in the last few years we have got amazing support so thank you and I'm glad we've been able to put on a show for these guys.

"The one-day format is a natural game for me because I like to go out there and just time the ball but the T20 format I have to put in a lot of effort in terms of strike-rate but one-day is something that I enjoy batting in a lot because you just have to react to the ball, and not do too much, and especially as a opener I think it is important to have a good start.

"I just want to say whatever happens in this series it is all for Jhulan Goswami."

England missed a trick not bowling Alice Capsey, she seems to make things happen. I would like to see her used more as the series progresses.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur: "We are very happy we got that much support from the audience, it is always motivating, and we're very happy with the win today because it was an important win for all of us. We showed the character that we spoke about in the team meetings.

"It was a very crucial toss to win and the moment we got that momentum we just wanted to continue. It was a good partnership between Jhulan [Goswami] and Meghna [Singh] and those breakthroughs were very important. The credit goes to all the bowlers, whoever came on kept getting us the breakthrough.

"It was a great partnership between Yastika [Bhatia] and Smriti [Mandhana] after losing the early wicket and we discussed some things that we wanted to execute and that we were able to achieve those. As a team we just want to carry on executing what we are discussing.

"Whenever I get the opportunity I just want to give 200% to the team. I was really happy with the way I batted because it was really important, firstly for myself to get those runs, but also for the team. The partnership between me and Smriti was really important and the way we built was outstanding."

I don't think England need to panic. It has not been their best performance but they are not a bad side.

They have just been outplayed and India are a good side as well. They are allowed to do that.

If England turn up and play their best cricket on Wednesday they are more than capable of beating this India side.

Smriti Mandhana is named player of the match for her 91.

    Here's India's winning moment...

  8. 'We have to play better to beat a side like India'published at 18:16 British Summer Time 18 September 2022

England captain Amy Jones: "It is disappointing. We didn't have enough runs with the bat, that was the main problem, but I did think that Alice [Davidson-Richards] batted brilliantly through the middle to give us a chance I guess. We just needed a few wickets in the powerplay but we only got one so I think that is where we fell short.

"We thought it was a trickier wicket but India bowled well and put a lot of pressure on us at the start. Losing regular wickets meant it was hard to get going until we got that partnership between Alice [Davidson-Richards] and Soph [Ecclestone] but the regular wickets cost us.

"To get Verma early was very important but we needed a couple more in the powerplay I think. Harmanpreet [Kaur] and Smriti [Mandhana] batted so well there and we have to play better to beat a side like that."

England got the early wicket with the ball, Charlie Dean's fine diving catch seeing off Shafali Verma, but Smriti Mandhana hit 91, Yastika Bhatia 50 and Harmanpreet Kaur 74 not out for India.

In the end it was a comprehensive victory.

  12. 'Batting let England down'published at 18:08 British Summer Time 18 September 2022

    Georgia Elwiss
England all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

It has been a tough day for England. The batting is really what has let them down - they had no set batter to see them through to the 40th over. They couldn't get any real partnerships going and extending them.

That is where the learning comes in and getting back into 50-over cricket having played The Hundred and T20s.

England just found ways of getting out and couldn't get a big score on the board. They found themselves at least 20 runs short at the break, I don't know if that would have made a difference but India would have needed to go harder.

  13. Postpublished at 18:07 British Summer Time 18 September 2022

England just never got going at any point.

They lost regular wickets in their innings and, even with an unbeaten fifty from Alice Davidson-Richards, their total of 227-7 ended up well below par.
