  1. dropped catch

Bhatia dropped on sevenpublished at 4.1 overs

Is that a drop? It is.

Issy Wong surprises Yastika Bhatia with the bouncer and a flick off the glove is put down by Amy Jones as she moves down the leg side.

She isn't at full stretch though and does get some glove on it. It is one she would have expected to take.

  2. Ind 20-1published at 4 overs

    Target 228

Smriti Mandhana is going to be the key to this chase. If she hangs around for any significant length of time it would massively sway the game in India's favour.

England are aware they need to get her early so Amy Jones moves an extra catcher in, but it opens up a gap that left-hander exploits with a gorgeous drive through the covers.

She then opens the face to beat Issy Wong at deep third for four more.

  3. Ind 9-1published at 3 overs

    Target 228

That is a lovely way to get off the mark.

Wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia is the new batter and she gets up and running with a gorgeous back-foot punch through point for four.

The tourists will want a partnership here. That would allow them to break the back of this chase.

  4. Ind 4-1published at 2 overs

    Target 228

Kate Cross has always wanted to be England's new-ball bowler and she's getting the opportunity in this series with Katherine Brunt being rested.

She'll feel she has a point to prove so that wicket is exactly what she would have wanted early on.

    Verma c Dean b Cross 1 (Ind 3-1)

Exactly the start that England wanted! And it is a brilliant catch.

Shafali Verma looks to work the ball into the leg side but she is a little early on the shot and it balloons up in the air.

It looks like it is going to land safe but Charlie Dean throws herself through the air and takes a stunning two-handed catch, diving at full-stretch to her right.

    A perfect start for England.

  8. Ind 2-0published at 1 over

    Target 228

    Catch it!

Almost an early breakthrough for England as a leading edge from Shafali Verma loops up in the air, but it falls right in the middle of Tammy Beaumont and Emma Lamb and goes away for a single.

That would have been just the start they'd have wanted. They will have spoke about the need for early wickets.

The players are out in the middle.

It will be Issy Wong to bowl the first over, with Smriti Mandhana on strike.

Who will win this series opener?

    Thanks Matt.

England's total off 227-7 does feel below par, but it also feels like it won't be a routine chase and win for India.

It is almost time for their chase to get under way.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say England have enough but it'll be Callum Matthews to take you through the start of India's chase.

    Speak later.

That is what England need to do. They need to build a bank of players that can rely on. They will want to build a bank of 20-25 players that they can rely on for the next World Cup.

In Alice Davidson-Richards they have found a very competent all-rounder.

What a summer Alice Davidson-Richards has had. What an opportunity she's got because she probably wouldn't be in the side if everyone was fit and available but it has been a really interesting summer for her.

England were 128-6 at one stage in that innings. They have done really well to get to 227-7.

The biggest contribution was from Alice Davidson-Richards who scored exactly 50 not out from 61 balls in an assured and well-paced knock.

It is her first half-century for England in this format, following on from her maiden Test ton earlier this summer.

England are probably 20 runs light of what they would have wanted but we have said that the pitch is playing up a bit with balls keeping a little low. They will definitely feel like they've got a chance, especially with their spinners.

Charlie Dean gets a single to finish.

India share some high fives. They look pretty pleased.

But England will also be fairly content to have got to that score from where they were.
