  1. 6 runs

    Eng 82-0published at 7.2 overs

Not out the middle? It doesn't matter for Alex Hales. He tries to swing Marcus Stoinis' second ball over the leg side, gets a big top edge but the ball sails high over fine leg for another maximum.

It's one-way traffic at the moment.

  2. Eng 72-0published at 7 overs

    Buttler 45, Hales 26

Swepson does come back well after that pair of sixes to start his over.

Just two singles from the next four balls but England are still racing towards a big, big total at the moment.

  3. 6 runs

    Eng 70-0published at 6.2 overs

And again! Jos Buttler is feeling it! He hits this one that much flatter, over deep mid-wicket, but the result is the same: six runs to the England total!

    How can Swepson respond?

  4. 6 runs

    Eng 64-0published at 6.1 overs

That's a biggie! Mitchell Swepson into the attack and Buttler doesn't need to have a look, he just launches the leg-spinner's first ball over long on and into the stands!

  5. Eng 58-0published at 6 overs

Very good powerplay for England. It almost ended on a high for the Aussies but Marsh just couldn't cling on.

What should England be aiming for after such a strong start?

That would have been the best catch I've seen this year had Mitch Marsh taken it.

  7. dropped catch

Chance! A tough chance but a chance nonetheless. Buttler tries the ramp again, Ellis deceives him with a slower ball and a leading edge flies to the left of Mitch Marsh at short third.

The fielder takes a couple of steps before throwing himself towards the ball, gets an outstretched hand to it but it doesn't stick.

It would have been a stunner but the ball goes the ground. Buttler survives.

  8. Eng 54-0published at 5.1 overs

    Buttler 30, Hales 23

The runs just keep coming! Short of a length from Ellis and Hales just guides the ball past backward point.

The ball races to the boundary cushion and with five balls left in the powerplay, how many more can England add?

The Australia crowd gasps at those ramp shots from Jos Buttler. Regardless of who you are supporting it's thrilling to see cricket shots played like that.

  10. 50 runs

    Eng 50-0published at 5 overs

It's been all proper cricket shots so far from Buttler but when fine leg comes up, he changes tact.

The England skipper is quickly across his stumps to ramp Richardson for four and then goes again next ball - and this one goes all the way!

That's the fifty partnership between Buttler and Hales. The perfect start for the visitors.

Richardson is back for a second over and Hales greets him by lifting a slower ball up and just over backward point.

After an over without, England are back on the boundary trail.

There's a collection of England fans under one of their tiers, and I just heard the faint strains of 'Barmy Army' being sung by them.

  13. Eng 35-0published at 4 overs

Good start from Nathan Ellis. Plenty of slower balls and Buttler and Hales have to deal in singles for the first five deliveries.

It's pace on to finish, though, and Buttler swings and misses. That would have gone a long way had he connected!

Alex Hales has played a missed at a few balls, but he looked completely unfazed. Then he capitalises on a bit of width from Daniel Sams to strike a lovely boundary.

Buttler slips as he comes back for two from the last ball of Sams' over but still makes his ground. There is a slight grimace after that. Not ideal in his first game back after a calf injury but he seems OK.

    England's strong start continues.

We saw some of the England players in a coffee shop yesterday and they were telling us this pitch was a belter for runscoring, and it looks it so far.

  17. 6 runs

    Eng 27-0published at 2.3 overs

That's what Alex Hales can do! Gives himself room, a slight shuffle down the pitch and he slaps the ball over wide long-off for the first six of the day!

The runs keep coming for England in the powerplay.

A better over for Australia after that Buttler onslaught on the first, just five from it but this has been a good start for England.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Green is out of the attack and left-armer Daniel Sams will bowl the next.

  20. Eng 20-0published at 1.3 overs

Hales is away third ball as Richardson offers up a bit of width, allowing the England opener to slap the ball through backward point and away for four.
