    Aus 8-0published at 0.3 overs

    Target 209

Erm... well, it's a six for David Warner. Beyond that I'm struggling to describe what just happened!

It's sort of a hook shot from well outside off and it's come off the top edge, over fine leg for six. Ridiculous but effective.

  2. Aus 0-0published at 0.1 overs

    Target 209

Solid start from Chris Woakes. On the money to Warner, back of a length, and blocked.

Right then, we're all set for the start of the Australia chase. We weren't sure who was going to open for the home side but we've got our answer now: it's Cameron Green.

Chris Woakes will bowl the first over for England.

Alex Hales, speaking to Fox: "I felt really good. It's always nice to have in the back of your mind you have played in a country and know the conditions well. I was nervous before the game but pleased I was able to get off to a good start.

"It's a really good pitch, and any time you score over 200 you are in the game. Hopefully we can bowl well. It feels like a 190 par pitch.

"Jos Buttler has been out of action for a couple of months so for him to come back and play like that was great to watch from the other end. He is the best white ball batter in the world, so to be able to open with him is a great feeling."

For Nathan Ellis to have bowling figures of 3-20 from four overs when the batting team have scored in excess of 200 is impressive. He mixed up his lengths, his lines and his pace of his deliveries. To bowl the 19th over and pick up two wickets is particularly good - it's the hardest over to bowl.

Australia will think they are in with a shout of winning this given they managed to pull it back from where they were in the 11th or 12th over. It's a good pitch, boundaries have been easy to come by. Going into the second innings you have to believe you can do it. They must take advantage of the powerplay.

Ben Stokes clearly wasn't at his best, Mark. Still, I think whoever was coming in after that fantastic partnership between Buttler and Hales would have struggled to keep that same momentum.

41 off the last five overs is fewer than England would have liked but still not disastrous - especially after the start they had.

Mark Burt: As soon as Stokes came in the energy started dissipating in the innings. Very poor last few overs. This score might be only par but it does look like the ball is holding in the pitch now.

It's going to take something special from Australia's batters. They will be looking to the firepower of Tim David, Aaron Finch and David Warner at the top of the order. Credit to Australia's bowlers who dragged it back a bit after the start England had. They should be chasing 230-odd.

  11. Eng 208-6published at 20 overs

    Malan 2, Woakes 13

A good cameo from Woakes to end the innings after a brilliant opening stand between Jos Buttler and Alex Hales.

Australia clawed it back a little late on and it is clearly a very good pitch for batting but 209 is still going to take some chasing!

Wow what a hit. It's a gone a mile in the air, and a mile into the crowd. That's the biggest six we have seen all night from Chris Woakes.

  14. 6 runs

    Eng 207-6published at 19.5 overs

Wow! That is enormous from Chris Woakes.

He's swung this one high - very high - over the leg side and into the stands. The sound of the bat was incredible and that went a long, long, long way!

  15. Eng 201-6published at 19.3 overs

England do get to 200! Woakes sits back and waits for the shorter ball from Richardson before crunching it over the covers for four.

    Lovely shot.

  16. Eng 197-6published at 19.2 overs

A well-run two from the second ball of the over from Richardson. Chris Woakes is off the mark and England get that bit closer to 200.

In a game where most of your team-mates have gone for 10 an over Nathan Elis has gone for five an over. That was a brilliant delivery to get rid of Moeen Ali who was looking to upper-cut him.

John Dunthorne: Changing batting order to allow 'well-rested' Stokes a hit has taken all the impetus out of the innings. Stupid decision.

Slower ball bouncer and Moeen can't get it over short third.

That's outstanding from Nathan Ellis. Two wickets and just a single from the penultimate over of the innings.

England are stuttering towards the finish line.

A great delivery from Ellis who has been the pick of the bowlers for Australia. Dawid Malan finally gets a chance to bat!
