Perfectly acceptable to open an advent calendar anytime after midnight! My parents still get me one and I'm 43!

Naseem Shah tests Crawley out with a short ball and it works, to an extent - he's not in control of the shot and it just evades the fielder at fine leg to land safely and goes for four.

Can we call that a chance? Probably not. Pakistan will take all the confidence they can get at this rate, though.

For what it's worth, I think England have picked a lopsided team, both when Foakes was in, then out.

Their attack has three frontline bowlers, an all-rounder in Ben Stokes, then three part-time spinners whose first-class bowling averages are 49, 36 and 53.

With Jacks batting as low as eight, could England have found room for another seamer? Would they have got Mark Wood in if he was fit?

  4. Eng 40-0published at 6 overs

Ben Duckett plays a glorious late cut for four more, and that's decent powerplay for England - they'll be delighted not to have lost a wicket.

    Oh, wait...

  5. Eng 34-0published at 5 overs

Is it acceptable to open my advent calendar before 5.30am?

Yes, I'm 26 and my parents still get me an advent calendar. Don't judge me.

  6. Eng 34-0published at 4.4 overs

Well, it's no Moose Cup, is it?

Zak Crawley gets extremely lucky with an inside edge that misses the stumps by a whisker and he gets four for it.

Ben Duckett flicks one effortlessly past square leg for another boundary.

This pitch is an absolute road.

Is this a record for the biggest difference in height between two opening batters?

Pakistan have two enthusiastic appeals in the over as Zak Crawley is struck on the pad, but both are given not out and it appears the virus has also taken out DRS, which isn't working at the moment.

Crawley survives a much better over from Naseem Shah.

It has been an incredible 24 hours.

News of England's troubles first surfaced this time yesterday, sparking a day of speculation, discussion and wonder of who might be fit. At one stage journalists were worried about getting too close to England players, the tourists' chef went down ill and Ollie Pope has gone from captain to wicketkeeper.

TMS producer Tim Peach has had an electric shock off our kit and Andy Zaltzman's laptop started smoking.

Now England are crashing it around. Chaos.

  12. Eng 20-0published at 2 overs

I'm not sure they can maintain a run rate of 10 an over throughout the day, but they're probably going to aim for it.

  13. Eng 18-0published at 1.1 overs

I'm going to need a lot more coffee if it's going to continue at this pace all day.

Ben Duckett cuts his first ball for four off the debutant, Mohammad Ali.

Positive start this. Naseem paid the price there for over-pitching.

  15. Eng 14-0published at 1 over

Well, that's a bit more convincing.

Two picture-perfect straight drives down the ground from Zak Crawley and he's taken 14 from the first over.

Are we still at the T20 World Cup?

  16. Eng 4-0published at 0.2 overs

    First runs!

An edge from Crawley, not the most convincing, but it safely trickles through the slips and away to the boundary.

We're looking at that pitch and you can't see much green grass on it, it's almost as pale as those on it.

  18. Eng 0-0published at 0.1 overs

Zak Crawley comfortably leaves the first ball outside off stump and there is barely any swing at all.

What a day to be a bowler.

    Here we go then!

Let's see how England's newest opening partnership of Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley holds up.

Naseem Shah has the new ball.
