    Shakeel 23, Babar 86

    Thanks Tom Mallows!

Right, how are we feeling? Pakistan are coming along nicely and the crowd is right behind their captain. I have a feeling Babar could make it to his century.

Jacks bowls this latest over and the first ball is full on off stump from round the wicket and it's hit to backward square for one run.

Shakeel hits an incredible sweep shot for four. He keeps himself low and gets into a good position to hit the ball to deep square.

  2. Pak 374-3published at 105 overs

This is only Ben Stokes' fourth over this innings but he looks exhausted already. His body looks perilously glued together at times.

He is finding a decent length first up but Pakistan are understandably watchful against England's talisman. Just the one run off it.

With Babar Azam 15 runs away from a century it is time for me to take break. Here to guide you through the rest of this session and beyond is Aymen Babar.

And here he is. Ben Stokes is capable of the extraordinary but even he faces a challenge trying to extract something from this pitch.

'Catch it' is the shout as Saud Shakeel top-edges a sweep shot into the leg side, but it loops well over the fielder at fine leg.

That is the closest England have come in a while, which says it all.

Ben Stokes looks to be warming up.

  6. Pak 371-3published at 103 overs

Whenever England drop too short Babar Azam is on it in a flash. It is Joe Root this time who gets punished.

Root then returns to his wide outside off stump line and Babar plays an extraordinary cross-batted shot to send the ball straight down the ground for another boundary.

That might end that particular experiment.

I went to a midnight showing of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The only bits of the film I saw was the opening sequence and the end credits. I slept through all the explosions, gunshots and fight scenes. Went back a couple of days later to view it at a normal time.

Will Jacks bowls the first over after drinks.

He has bowled much better today than one day one, gamely probing outside off stump.

The England fielders are oohhing and ahhing to try and create a bit of drama, too.

They are trying everything out there.

I don't think we've had a functional field today which I like from Stokes. He is trying to take wickets and is trying to get them in any way possible.

    Esteemed company indeed.

  12. How's stat?!published at 08:55 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

    Andy Zaltzman
    Cricket statistician on BBC Four

Babar has played nine Test matches, 985 runs, 14 innings and is averaging 89.45

In Test history, batters who have played at least 12 innings in a specific country only Bradman in England averaging 102, Garfield Sobers averaging 99 in India and Bradman average 98 in Australia, have a better average in a specific country than Babar Azam.

  13. drinks break

    Pak 363-3published at 101 overs

It is tough out there for England so they deserve this drinks break.

Babar Azam fans. I have a zinger of a stat coming up from BBC TMS stats man Andy Zaltzman.

  14. Pak 363-3published at 101 overs

Joe Root is bowling very (and I mean very) wide of off stump to try and tempt Babar Azam into a loose stroke.

At 363-3 why not try something different?

The wily Babar is having none of it, though.

Joe Root is going to have a twirl.

I wonder if he will bowl one of his bouncers again...

  16. Pak 363-3published at 100 overs

Babar Azam seems to have coasted to 76 in no time at all. He looks in complete control.

There is a hum of anticipation around the ground. It will erupt if/when he gets to three figures.

  17. Pak 356-3published at 99 overs

Your secret is safe with us, Tom.

Three more singles off Jack Leach's latest over and he immediately heads off the field. He is smiling though so I don't think it is because of an injury.

I slept through my 9am uni class on Friday after staying up all night to watch the first day of the Test on Thursday. My tutor's Scottish so I'm relying on him not following this.

Babar has capitalised on the bad balls and he's got a decent strike-rate too.

  20. Pak 353-3published at 98 overs

Ruthless from Babar Azam. Anything slightly short or off-line and he capitalises. Will Jacks is too short this time and he pulls away for four.

Babar is 68 from 85 balls, which is a decent rate. I think he could go big here.
