In Test match your skills really get tested. Babar is still really learning the art of being a good captain.
At Test match, your leadership and captaincy get tested. You have to create those angles, fielding position and bowling changes. I think he's still learning that but when you talk about his batting, he's just an extraordinary player.
Was that a chance? Will Jacks finds the edge of Babar Azam's bat but the ball flies just wide of a diving Joe Root at first slip.
Here comes the replay....nope, the ball was way wide of Root's grasp. He needed six foot arms to reach that.
Jacks then drops the next delivery short and Babar pulls away for four.
No wonder Jacks looks cheesed off at the end of the over.

I like the way Leach has bowled. He's been really consistent. But when you look at other bowlers like Root, he's not been consistent. You need wickets to win a Test match.
Saud Shakeel gets back into the crowds good books by taking a single off the first ball to bring Babar Azam on strike.
Babar cuts a wide delivery from Jack Leach for a single to bring up the 50 partnership.

On the night of the great storm of October 1987 I slept with the French windows in my bedroom open. I woke up to the radio alarm telling me not to go outside unless my journey was strictly necessary and the bedroom full of leaves. I had slept through the whole thing.

Ben Stokes is moving his field all over the place in an attempt to bamboozle the batters. You can't accuse him of drifting through this session.
Saud Shakeel blocks for five dots before nicking a single with the last ball to keep strike.

Normally the third day is the most moving day but it hasn't been like that today.

Good control on that, outside the off stump. We've seen the England players play the sweep shot really well.
You've got to be really watchful and take your time in this game.
If you are wondering why Liam Livingstone is not bowling - he is still off the field injured.
There's a huge England appeal as Saud Shakeel goes for a sweep, but the umpire says no. Looked more in hope than expectation though.
Shakeel executes the sweep much better the following delivery, though, clattering the ball through square leg to the boundary.
That should settle Shakeel down a bit.
Speaking of the Edgbaston Test (08:16) I very nearly missed the winning moment as I switched channels in a mood not wanting to see England lose. I switched back just as the ball nestled in Geraint Jones' gloves.
Lesson learned.
Just the one run for Saud Shakeel in that Will Jacks over.
Ominous for England. The next ball Babar Azam rocks back and perfectly times a push through the covers for four.
That has woken everybody up!
Babar Azam strides down the track and dispatches Jack Leach over the rope for six to bring up his half-century.
That went down well with the crowd. They have gone absolutely wild.

I slept through the last morning of Edgbaston 05 :-( Saved myself much anguish but was never brave enough to come clean.

It is twin spin again as Jack Leach comes back into the attack.

When I was a teenager some arsonists set fire to some very dry fir trees in the front of my house. It caused an almighty blaze. A group of drunk squaddies on their way back from town at 2am noticed it and banged on our front door screaming ‘your trees are on fire’. Three fire trucks and two police cars arrived, equipped with spotlights to light up the house and the garden and put the fire out. Slept through the whole thing and didn’t even realise the trees were missing until the following day.

Slip and short leg in for Will Jacks.
He has generally probed nicely on that teasing line outside off stump but the moment his loses a bit of length Babar Azam capitalises, pulling the ball away for four.
No margin for error on this surface.
Steady! Saud Shakeel gets a bit overexcited an attempts to launch Ollie Robinson out of the ground. But it is a swing and a miss and it flies through to Pope behind the stumps.
A mistake/lapse in concentration. That's what England are banking on at the moment.
Time for a change at the other end. James Anderson is given a rest and Will Jacks is coming back on.
Understand the frustration, Ross. But the way England scored so quickly does give them a bit more time. As Jonathan Agnew says, a couple of wickets here and suddenly the game changes.
My morning coffee must be kicking in as I am rarely this positive.
One run off the latest James Anderson over. There's not much out there for Jimmy so far.

There's a slightly open door, if England get a couple wickets here they could liven the game up.
