    Ben Duckett survives!

The Ultra edge replay showed the ball just brushed off his glove before going on to his pads.

    DRS to England's rescue again.

Big appeal for lbw and that's been given. Duckett is considering a review and goes for it.

Now then. Ben Duckett was flying but he could be out here.

He is caught in front attempting to sweep Abrar Ahmed.

The umpire raises his finger and, after a brief chat with Ollie Pope, Duckett decides to review.

Ben Duckett is only going to accelerate now. What a shot that was, a bit of flight from Mahmood and dispatched.

The next ball he cuts away square for four.

Ben Duckett sweeps around the corner. Babar Azam, standing at first slip, reads the shot and moves across to try and take the catch, but his dive is in vain and Duckett runs two to bring up his half-century.

  9. Eng 102-1published at 17.1 overs

Now it's Ollie Pope's turn to nail a reverse sweep that beats the fielder behind square in the off-side and fizzes away for four.

    Lovely shot.

It is fascinating cricket. England have the initiative at the moment but wickets could fall at any minute the way that they're playing. It's high risk but it is high quality - and high reward as well.

If you are just joining us - good morning.

England have made steady progress after winning the toss on a slow, dry pitch in Multan that is already offering some turn.

Zak Crawley is the only wicket to fall so far, clean bowled by Abrar Ahmed in his first over in Test cricket.

We have not quite seen the fireworks of the first Test but Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett have still made steady progress since, with England's rate over five an over.

It was more of a reverse slog-sweep, Duckett hit that incredibly hard and the fielder out there had no chance.

Abrar looks as though he's thinking, 'what's going on? They haven't played like this in my first-class career so far.' He's not bowled badly, he's taken a crucial wicket but he has gone for 39 in five overs.

  13. Eng 97-1published at 17 overs

Ben Duckett loves a sweep and it is bringing him rewards.

He reverse sweeps a shortish delivery from Abrar Ahmed that almost turns into a reverse pull shot and the ball flies through the covers for four.

He repeats the trick with the final ball of the over to move to 48 from 39 balls.

It's a very big ground this, not so easy to smack it for fours and sixes. I imagine the six count will be much lower, even with England's approach.

After the road of Rawalpindi this is already developing into a much more even contest between bat and ball.

England are doing their best to try and get on top of the spinners. But there is plenty of life in the surface to keep the bowlers interested.

Just too much flight so Pope could use his feet, get to the pitch of the ball, hit it on the half-volley and manoeuvre it wide of mid on. It's a great contest.

  18. Eng 79-1published at 15 overs

Comedy cricket time as Ben Duckett goes for a reverse sweep that loops up into the air. There's cries of 'catch it' but the ball falls safely. However, the fielder is wrongfooted by an awkward bounce and England run three.

Abrar Ahmed then gives the next delivery too much air and Ollie Pope can drive a half-volley through mid-wicket for four.

There was a lot of spin in that over, more than we've seen from Abrar. Zahid Mahmood is a more conventional spinner, he probably spins it harder.

He couldn't get it off the straight in Rawalpindi but this is a different kettle of fish. He beat the bat three times which led to Pope going for the reverse sweep.

It's definitely hit the glove. Not out. A reprieve - a correct reprieve - for Pope.
