  3. 'It's about understanding different wickets'published at 12:20 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

More from Jack Leach on bowling on Pakistani surfaces:"Today we worked really, really well. It's just understanding different wickets and I really have faith in Stokesy to know what the right thing to do is.

"Maybe on these wickets it's a bit different and even though there is a lot happening, you need your guys around the bat and some closer to the fence. It's about making them hit their get out of jail shot and seeing where they go after that. Maybe you can make them hit in areas they don't want to hit.

"I do have to [bowl a bit quicker] and maybe a touch fuller. Trajectory as well, maybe not so much up and down, get it along the wicket. Sometimes you bowl some balls on that wicket and think, 'that's the worst ball ever' but it's all good."

On being the senior spinner:"I think we all work together and all offer slightly different things. It's worked really nicely and even Rehan [Ahmed] who is 18 has so much knowledge for a young guy, is so passionate about his cricket, knows different batters. He's a real student of the game. I find it useful speaking to him.

"It's a real team effort and Jeetan Patel feels like the senior spinner as the coach, he didn't stop playing that long ago. I look up to him."

  5. 'Never thought I'd reach 100 Test wickets'published at 12:14 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2022

England bowler Jack Leach, speaking on Sky Sports: "I think it's a really good day for us, obviously 280 ahead so look to get a few more tomorrow then have another go at them.

"There's a bit more happening than in Rawalpindi so just looking to be patient and work your way through.

"It's crazy [that four an over seems so calm], we've batted so well - it's great to watch. Harry Brook, Ben Duckett - the sweeping there, I know as a spinner how hard it is when someone is sweeping and reverse sweeping.

"It's really difficult. They played really, really well and put us in a good position."

On reaching 100 Test wickets: "Really pleased. I never thought that would happen. Amazing and I just want to contribute to a win.

"It's crazy to think I've got 100 wickets in Test matches just because of how difficult I've found it at times.

"But then you realise there have been some good moments along the way, you do some good things and I definitely feel like I'm getting better and better as I play more, so that's pleasing.

"On these wickets it's about being as patient as you can between those [sharply turning] deliveries. It's something I'll try to do better in the next innings, try to be clever with fields and stuff, patiently go about my work."

The new ball is going to be really crucial for the spinners because it grips and turns when the ball is harder.

The pressure of the fourth innings and the look of the pitch might just get to Pakistan.

The logic for England is that there's so much time left. 350 will be a minimum target but even if they get there, there's no need to declare. They can just keep piling the runs on and make it as difficult as possible for the opposition. There's no virtue in declaring before Lunch tomorrow. Unless some of them want to play golf on the fifth day.

I'm not sure it was a lack of experience for Pakistan. I didn't enjoy the way Azhar Ali batted in the last game. Perhaps they could have left Zahid Mahmood out because he went for a lot of runs.

England were quite measured today. Once Babar was gone, they realised they didn't need to be over aggressive and just had to keep the pressure on.

Even while batting, they didn't play extravagant shots. They were measured and realized that they cannot take Abrar on. I really liked England's approach. The momentum is just with them.

It's amazing Abrar has taken so many wickets without any support at all.

Pakistan are way behind in this game. Maybe a wicket or two towards the end there would have made a difference but it's been all England. Pakistan threw it away in the morning. They didn't know how to bat, they were worried and went into their shell. That's dangerous against a team that's full of confidence.

I don't think Pakistan were brave enough. Rizwan in particular was very worried about losing his wicket. Full credit to Stokes. Bringing Wood in made a massive difference and created fear in the batsmen's mind.

For a while we have had competition for bowlers and now finally we will have the same for batters - good news for English cricket.

No one would have expected Pakistan to be bowled out before Lunch but it all happened so easily. Once Babar went, you could sense the tension. The runs stopped, then another wicket fell and it was a pack of dominoes. Pakistan lost their sense of focus at the end of their innings.

England were gifted a first innings lead that I didn't really expect them to get.

I don't think Pakistan have done really well in any of these sessions. England look like a team who are here on business and they really want to win this.

    England lead by 281

    And it is.

Aleem Dar and Marais Erasmus call time on another thrilling day which has seen England take a firm grip on the match.

They will begin day three on 202-5 with an already hefty lead of 281, with Harry Brook unbeaten on 74 and Ben Stokes 16 not out.

Abrar Ahmed has once again been the pick of the Pakistan bowlers, with his figures of 3-81 making it 10 overs for the match so far.

Babar Azam rates Agha Salman highly as an off-spinner. I'm surprised he hasn't bowled more.

  17. Eng 202-5published at 49 overs

A new bowler is into the attack as Agha Salman is chucked the ball by Babar Azam.

A calm push into the leg-side brings up the England 200 and pushes the lead up to 281.

An hour's slog tomorrow morning and the match will probably be beyond Pakistan, if it isn't already.

We've just been having that very discussion. It's not easy but might it be bad news for Ben Foakes?

Bringing Duckett and Brook in has transformed this batting line up. Suddenly we have some depth and are not completely reliant on Stokes and Root. Finally look to have a settled(ish) top 6 or 7 other than what we do when Bairstow is back.
