So with about 35 minutes left and the light rapidly fading, drinks are called.

Are they really necessary? It has not been especially hot.

Harry Brook's capability of going through the gears has really impressed me. He's been able to accelerate on a flat pitch and take it slow when it's difficult to bat. He's played a very measured innings today.

  6. 50 runs

50 for Harry Brookpublished at 40.5 overs

Harry Brook pushes the ball into a huge gap in the on-side and has all the time in the world to run through for two to bring up his half-century from 74 balls.

It has not been quite as explosive an innings that we saw in Rawalpindi but has been perfectly paced give the match circumstances.

  7. Eng 160-5published at 40 overs

Ben Stokes misses a reverse sweep and the ball cannons into his pads, but Marais Erasmus turns down Abrar Ahmed's appeal.

Pakistan consider the review but decide against it. It looked like it hit Stokes outside the line.

Chris Harvey: Total triple whammy for Ollie Pope there. Diving into the bone-dry dirt, being too late with it, and getting stuck in the pitch and not even making it to the line.

  10. Eng 158-5published at 39 overs

Looking at the replay of the Ollie Pope run out Harry Brook initially set off before changing his mind, by which time Pope was halfway down the track. Not sure you can blame the Yorkshireman though.

Ben Stokes is the new batter.

Who knows what to expect here.

Pope ran to the shot but there was never a run there. He was out by a considerable distance despite putting in a dive.

Pope run out (Nawaz) 4 (Eng 155-4)

Oh dear. It is the second run out of the innings and it is a pretty bad one.

Ollie Pope hits the ball straight to Mohammad Nawaz at cover but set off for the run anyway. Harry Brook sends him back but Pope was well short of his ground despite a last-ditch dive.

I just spotted Jimmy Anderson has half his whites on. Surely not, surely they're not thinking of declaring. Jack Leach would be what they call the 'Night Hawk'.

There is no need for a bold declaration in this game, there's a lot of time left.

  15. Eng 155-4published at 37 overs

England nudge six runs off Zahid Mahmood's latest over, he has struggled to steam the flow of runs.

It eases the pressure a bit as they England finding Abrar Ahmed much more uncomfortable at the other end.

Still ages left in this match, bat for as long as possible now. Give Leach a huge lead to bowl out Pakistan, to show the new uppity spectacles in town a thing or two. To show who the daddy is lenses wise.

    Rob J

Disappointed Stokes hasn't declared yet. Whatever happened to positive, attacking captaincy?!

Abrar is the 18th Test cricketer to take 10 wickets on debut.

He's just the second to do it for Pakistan.

  18. Eng 149-4published at 36 overs

Ollie Pope, who was given a bit of a breather after keeping wicket, is in at number six.

Babar Azam gave Abrar Ahmed a big hug after that Ben Duckett wicket, his drop only cost Pakistan 10 runs in the end.

Duckett will watch that and think there wasn't much more he could do there. It was there to be hit but it just kept low and snuck under the bat.
