Just one from Nawaz's over. Babar Azam has kept the field up for Brook, encouraging him to try and go over the top.
That, of course, was the Yorkshireman's downfall in the first innings.

I love the new approach of Stokes et al, but I’d like to see one exception. Allow, encourage, Root to play a La Root. Let him be the anchor around which chaos spins. Like he is in ODIs. He’s world class and it would only help this philosophy, surely? (I’m sure Stokes and Baz could frame it to still support the plan overall)

Brook didn't know much about that. He was looking to chop that into the off-side and got a thick inside edge.

Close! Harry Brook does not pick the googly from Abrar Ahmed and is thankful that he is able to get something on it in the nick of time.
The ball runs away behind square on the leg side, a single and the safety of the non-striker's end for Brook.

Arjun Singh: Root has really come off the boil in this series. Which is okay, he’s only human - it’s good that the rest of the team are there to take the pressure off him.

Just a pair of singles from Nawaz's over. The left-arm spinner is being asked to do a bit of a holding role.
We've not seen Zahid Mahmood, the other leggie, yet and that may have something to do with how expensive he has been in the series even when he's been taking wickets.

Word is Ollie Pope is fine, he's just getting a longer break after keeping wicket.

Pakistan are doing just enough to keep themselves in this game as Harry Brook walks to the crease.
England are still well on top but things can change quickly as we saw in both side's first innings.

Shafique anticipated the paddle and moved to his right to cover that, Root then got a thick edge and Shafique had to shift his weight and dive to his left. It was a brilliant catch.

Confirmation and you can hear the roar in the crowd. Root is on his way for 21. Really uplifting moment for Pakistan.
Root c Shafique b Abrar 21 (Eng 79-3)
Breakthrough for Pakistan - it's a wonderful grab from Abdullah Shafique and Joe Root has to go.
He signposted the sweep shot early, Shafique anticipated it just behind square at short leg and when the contact wasn't great, the fielder was able to pluck the ball out of the air with his outstretched left hand.
He took it a mere inch or two from the ground. Abrar has Root for the second time in the match.

That's a brilliant catch at short-leg. Abrar has got Joe Root again. The two umpires are consulting and Root is walking. The soft-signal is out.
Eng 79-2
Pakistan might just have got something special with a brilliant catch at short leg to remove Root.
It is going upstairs to be checked but Pakistan are convinced.
Root 21, Duckett 50
As we reach the 20-over mark, England have settled things down through Duckett and Root after those two early wickets.
Pakistan need something to stop this game getting away from them.

Back-to-back half-centuries for Duckett. He's had a good series so far, a hundred in the first game as well.
Eng 76-2
A second half-century in the match for Ben Duckett. The England opener gets to his third Test fifty - to go with one century - from 68 balls.
He gets there with a sweep, of course. Just a single for it after his two a couple of balls early had brought up the fifty partnership with Root.

Good running allows Root to get back for two after clipping Abrar through square leg.
The lead has moved upwards of 150 and on a surface that is already offering plenty for the spinners and is expected to deteriorate further, England are in a strong position.

Abrar Ahmed looks a very good bowler but I reckon he might be an even better appealer (if that is even a word).
He goes up again for an lbw shout against Duckett. If you didn't see the delivery itself, you'd be convinced it must be plumb. It wasn't and Babar isn't wasting a review on it.

A desperate dive from the fielder Zahid Mahmood but he can't keep it in.
