I sense a little contest between Duckett and Abrar because of the comments made yesterday.

Something of a rarity in this match as an Abrar over goes by without incident.

No wickets, no boundaries, just three singles, including one pushed to long off to get Root off the mark.

The way Pakistan is playing, I can understand why the crowd isn't at capacity.

Duckett pinches a single from the last ball of the over and will keep strike.

The wickets will have played a part but it has been an unusually becalmed start from England through the first 10 overs.

Long chase for the fielder at mid-wicket but he's only going to retrieve the ball.

    Root 0, Duckett 26

Banged in by Faheem Ashraf and Ben Duckett is quickly onto it. Pulled in front of square for four. Dismissive.

To Matt, Exeter: I think the bespectacled South African Eddie Barlow took 12 wickets himself on one of the Eng v Rest of the World 'Tests' in 1970?

    Rob, London

Rob is correct - Barlow took seven in the first innings and five in the second at Headingley in 1970.

Abrar and Leach have 12 together now.

Huge appeal from Abrar as the ball hits Joe Root's front pad. No one else is remotely interested, though. There was a big inside edge from the former England skipper.

Ben Duckett was quite insistent last night that there was no real mystery to Abrar Ahmed - "a leg-spinner with a good googly" was his assessment. He reckoned England picked him but he just bowled very well.

We'll see how he goes this time around.

We might be in a bit of light trouble earlier than yesterday.

You've got to respect the bowlers who are bowling well and Abrar, at the moment, is on top of his game. You've got to play sensibly.

It's been a strange start to this England innings, really. None of the batters have looked particularly troubled and yet the tourists find themselves two down.

A needless run out, a bit of a swipe and Pakistan have got their tails up. England did take the lead past 100 in the previous over, though.

I don't think Jacks had any clue which way that was turning. England's tactic of sending Jacks up the order to up the ante hasn't worked.

Huge swing from Jacks and he's bowled him. It was a huge swing across the line and Abrar's got another wicket.

    Jacks b Abrar 4 (Eng 25-2)

    He's done it again!

Just as I was typing that England had looked pretty comfortable against the spinner, he bowls Will Jacks with the googly.

Jacks went for the slog-sweep, it was a bit of an ugly shot in all honesty, and the ball spins back to hit off stump. Abrar has a wicket in his first over again.

Strap in, it's time for Abrar Ahmed...

Faheem concedes a run for the first time in the innings, four of them in fact.

It's a back of a length delivery and Duckett manages to muscle it in between mid on and mid-wicket. Not middled but the ball still wins the race to the rope.

Ollie Pope has not come in at number three and we think it's purely tactical. He did keep for the full duration of Pakistan's innings and he might just be getting a bit of extra breathing room.

As a lifelong wearer of glasses, I'm wondering if this Test will set a new record for most wickets by bespectacled bowlers? 11 and counting. Can you confirm?!

    Matt, Exeter

Jacks is down the pitch first ball to Mohammad Ali and takes a single to leg.

Duckett then tucks the last ball of the over through mid-wicket, it won't reach the boundary but they get back for three. Good running.
