I really hope Leach unravels a marathon blockathon so Root can get his triple hundred.

Jack Leach to the middle.
A Sunday afternoon friendly heave from Joe Root as he comes down the pitch and wafts the willow across the line, but fails to make contact.
Next ball he pulls through mid-wicket but the fielder in the deep keeps it to a single. Root moves on to 149.
Robinson c Southee b Henry 18 (Eng 424-8)
Alas, it matters not for New Zealand.
Ollie Robinson backs away to give himself room for a big drive on the up but ends up spooning the ball to the hands of the Kiwi skipper in a close catching position in the covers.
Tom Blundell, a relieved man, manages a grimaced chuckle.
A thick edge from Matthew Henry off Ollie Robinson's bat but Black Caps wicketkeeper Tom Blundell fumbles a regulation catch behind the stumps.
Ollie Robinson miscues a pull off Tim Southee and the ball comes down with snow on. Fortunately for the England man it lands safely in the pastures.
Robinson has a useful 18 off 25 balls. Joe Root is two runs shy of 150.

Thomas: The fact that people continue to question Stokes' style of play after the last year is hilarious. He's proven he can play a slow innings when necessary. Coming in at 323 with 10 or so overs before the new ball is a perfectly reasonable time to slog it.
The square-jawed Matthew Henry has a determined look on his face as he bounds in and he beats the outside edge of Joe Root's bat. A couple of balls later Root calmly guides a short one down to square leg.
Ollie Robinson picks up a single off the last ball of the over, beating the dive of Henry, to pinch the strike.

Tim Southee nips one into the pads of Ollie Robinson and appeals, with gusto. Ignored by the umpire. That looked close. New Zealand all out of reviews, though.
Next ball a leading edge from Robinson disappears over the cordon for four before the England man hoicks it beyond mid-on for a couple more.

Wonder if Baz fancies sticking Bairstow in to open against the Aussies? Feels like that would be proper Bazball.
Joe, Newcastle
Ollie Robinson in a long sleeve cable knit. Rarely seen while batting in international cricket. Probably due to sports scientists or performance anlysts.
Anyway, Joe Root, short sleeve cable knit, has scooped Tim Southee in the manner of Tillakaratne Dilshan over the wicketkeeper's head for four.

Joe Root has taken 41 runs from 32 balls faced this morning. He was 101 from 182 overnight.

A bit of liquid refreshment. A nice cup of tea would be ideal on a chilly day in Wellington, you would imagine.

Doug Parr: England collapsing around a resolute Joe Root. How nostalgic.
Intuition from the former skipper? Or has Joe Root has maybe got wind of the plans to declare?
Either way he saunters down the pitch and heaves Tim Southee into the stands for sic with a premeditated pull. Next ball he reverse ramps the New Zealand skipper over the cordon for four more.
Could be in an entertaining period before lunch, here.
A peach from Tim Southee as he squares up Tim Southee with one that nips off the seam.
The TV cameras Ben Stokes capture having a conflab with Brendon McCullum on the players' balcony. Are they going to stick New Zealand in before lunch?
Image source, Getty ImagesHe's got a nice relaxed action, Michael Bracewell. He strikes Ollie Robinson, who plants his size 12s down the pitch, on his pad outside the line.
That will probably be Bracewell's last over for a while as New Zealand skipper Tim Southee takes the new ball, and fancies an initial burst with the new cherry himself.
