Surprised no mentions of Danny Morrison yet. Not the best Kiwi bowler ever, but an amazing commentator in T20 leagues across the world...

Stuart Broad has adopted the double-handled tea pot after he produces a beauty with his fourth ball. It straightens Kane Williamson up and then snip the ball away to beat his defensive prod.

You feel that if anyone is to get Williamson here, it's most likely going to be Broad.

Badreddine: Chris Cairns. Swashbuckling batting and pretty good with ball as well, with unbelievably deceitful slower balls.

  4. NZ 277-4published at 103 overs

All the pilates and yoga paying off for Kane Williamson with the way he stretched back to bring his toe down the line and maintain his balance.

Williamson is unbeaten on 47 from 138 balls.

Favourite NZ cricketer has to be Colin de Grandhomme, purely for his fantastic name and that retro mullet hairstyle.

Kane Williamson breathes a sigh of relief. The home fans in the Basin Reserve cheer encouragingly.

Twas a good ball from Jack Leach who did Kane Williamson in the flight.

The fourth umpire is taking his time with this one. Has Kane Williamson, at full stretch attempting to block, managed to get a toe back behind the line?

  8. Umpire reviewpublished at 102.3 overs

A couple of balls later and we have an appeal for stumping. Kane Williamson is beaten on the outside edge lurching forward to one spinning away from him and Ben Foakes whips the bails off.

    Foakes seems convinced.

Have to say I agree with Stephan on the DJ at the Basin Reserve. Not a huge fan of music at Test cricket (don't @ me...) but the tunes carefully add to the ambience.

Daryl Mitchell fluffs a sweep shot to Jack Leach and the ball almost becomes lodged in his person before dropping safe.

Stuart Broad has a pensive expression, seemingly held in place by that white sweat band, as Kane Williamson edges a good ball which climbs into him with soft hands. It bounces before a diving second slip.

Next ball a bit of extra bounce surprises Williamson who withdraws from the shot as he fends it away. Broad channels his alpha male in the follow-through, puffing his chest out and sticking his shoulders back.

Things that make the Basin Reserve brilliant: the grass banks, the DJ's choice of music, the fact you can do a full lap of the ground and always have a view of the cricket, the old-fashioned scoreboard.

  12. NZ 272-4published at 101 overs

Kane Williamson, that trademark smidge of white sunblock on his bottom lip, prods Jack Leach through covers for a single.

That's the fifty partnership for these two. Daryl Mitchell has scored the bulk of them, though. 41 of them off 37 balls to be precise.

Best NZ cricketer? Glenn Turner. Hundred hundreds, 1000 runs before the end of May, 300 in a day and a wonderful one-day innovator too in his time. Hadley and Crowe are contenders but GMT gets my vote.

Back under way as Jack Leach returns.

His second ball is emphatically cut by Daryl Mitchell to the boundary for four. No hope of a volte-face with his approach after drinks then.

Ian Shepherd: A quick couple of wickets in the next hour or so changes the whole complexity of the game. A total of 120 to chase.

It has to be Chris Martin. Took more wickets than he ever scored runs! He never seemed sure if he's playing tennis, golf or baseball when he stepped up to the crease.

Ben Stokes spins the routlette wheel of England bowling options and lands on Joe Root. The former England skipper's second delivery is reverse swept by Daryl Mitchell four four. Mitchell has 32 from 33 balls now.
