The undoubted star of the show was Alice Capsey. She blitzed England's fastest half-century at a T20 World Cup - matching the overall record - to take her side to the brink of victory.

  6. 'We want to be free and take the game on'published at 16:10 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2023

England captain Heather Knight: "I think Ireland came at us quite hard, it was good actually with the way the spinners brought it back again.

"It was a pitch that was really conducive to spin and we've got three world-class spinners in our line-up, it's really nice to be able to have the different options. Those three are doing a great job for us.

"Then Alice [Capsey] broke the back of the chase and made it easier. We made hard work of it at the end but it's still two points and we're looking forward to India in the next game.

"In T20 cricket you've got no room for doubt, you need to take the aggressive option and be really free. That's a bit of a mantra for us, we want to take the game on and be free, especially at the top of the order.

"We've got the depth in our side to really go hard at the top and attack the powerplay to get ahead of the game and put the opposition under pressure."

  7. 'Definitely positives to take'published at 16:05 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2023

Ireland captain Laura Delany: "Obviously disappointed to come off with a loss but fair play to England, they outplayed us in both innings.

"I think there are definitely some positives to take in the first innings and likewise with the ball. But we want to make sure we want to put in big partnerships in our next game, that's something we're going to target.

"Our top three have batted with great intent, particularly over the last three or four games. The next step is making sure we can keep that momentum going and give the middle order a platform to kick on at the end.

"We're looking forward to playing Pakistan in the next game, we've set targets and we've taken confidence from the games we've played. We just want to keep building."

England did limp over the line but they still had more than five overs to spare.

It was one of the stranger games I've seen. You can't say England were ruthless, but they were in certain aspects of the game.

  9. 'This is the dream'published at 16:00 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2023

Player of the match, England's Alice Capsey: "I'm loving it, playing for England in a World Cup is pretty much the dream, isn't it?

"The plan is really clear, it's to put pressure on bowlers at every opportunity.

"The message we've had from Jon Lewis as a group really suits that and it's been brilliant. There have been no complaints and I'm loving playing under him.

"We're high on confidence, we're all really enjoying it and I think that's showing. We're playing India next, we're looking forward to it and just want to keep doing what we're doing for the next couple of games.

On the South African pitches: "They're a little bit different. Out there it was staying a bit low and holding a little bit so slower balls were very effective so I had to change my game a little bit but stick with my main mentality."

It wasn't the start England wanted with the ball, they were expensive in the powerplay. Though they tidied up the extras compared to the West Indies game.

They continued to bat in this expansive, aggressive way with Alice Capsey the standout. She is an absolute superstar and looked like she was batting on a different pitch.

A real good team performance. There are areas they will want to improve and sharpen up, but all in all, job done.

To be fair, Matt, I think they had net run-rate on their minds. They likely would've taken a different approach in a knockout game...

Matt Carver: England will come unstuck against the better nations this World Cup again losing more than 5 wickets chasing 106 should never happen. Nat and Heather should have knocked it off after the top 3 gave them such a strong start.

Katherine Sciver-Brunt gets the ball past mid-off for four and, after a bit of a stumble, England complete a convincing four-wicket win.

Alice Capsey was the star with the bat, scoring the joint-fastest half-century in Women's T20 World Cup history (21 balls), after the England spinners did the damage with the ball.

Ireland fought back well and might be wondering what might have been had they not collapsed so badly with the bat.

I don't think it is going to change the result but this is still a messy way for England to finish.

This is just getting silly now!

Amy Jones thumped the previous ball back over Murray's head for four and tries to repeat the shot to finish the game.

She doesn't get hold of it, though, and the ball spirals up into the covers where Laura Delany takes the catch. On we go...

Amy Jones did make her ground to avoid the run out but that still feels like an unnecessary risk at this stage.

What is going on!? England could just have lost a sixth wicket after Katherine Sciver-Brunt calls Amy Jones through for a quick single.

    This is tight.
