Heather Knight will be absolutely fuming with that.

  2. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 13.2 overs

    Knight b Murray (Eng 98-5)

Heather Knight tries to sweep a ball that is drifting down leg but only manages to drag it back onto her stumps!

Cara Murphy has a second wicket, it's somewhat fortuitous but she won't care.

England are really dragging this one out.

  3. Eng 97-4published at 13 overs

    Target 106

Ireland have brought the field up to deny England those easy singles. It means just one run from the over and Knight, perhaps getting a little impatient, swings and misses at the last ball from Kelly.

The worm shows England are 17 runs ahead of Ireland. England are 97 for 4 after 13 overs. At the same stage Ireland were 80 for 4.Image source, BBC Sport

Ireland did start very well with the bat, they had plans for the England seamers and spinners in the powerplay.

England leaked more runs than they are probably used to and that's an area they will look at as one they can improve. They cannot afford that against the better sides later in the tournament.

  5. Eng 96-4published at 12 overs

    Target 106

A couple of dots to finish the Delany over but with eight overs to score 10 runs, I fancy England might win this one.

  6. Eng 96-4published at 11.4 overs

Need another 10 runs to win

That's more like it! Heather Knight plants her front foot and pumps Ireland skipper Laura Delany over extra cover, a couple of bounces for four.

This passage of play feels like we are watching a one-day international. England are just stroking the ball around now.

  8. Eng 89-4published at 11 overs

Need another 17 runs to win

Very tidy over from Leah Paul, just the three singles. Credit to Ireland for dragging this back, at one stage it looked as though England would comfortably knock off the runs inside 10 overs.

With England seemingly prioritising making sure of a win over fun (fair enough, I guess), let's look back at some of the fun they had earlier.

Alice Capsey was in magnificent form and brought up her half-century with a big six.

  10. Eng 86-4published at 10 overs

    Target 106

Steady stuff from England after losing a wicket to the first ball of the over.

Knight and new batter Amy Jones are happy to deal in ones and twos. Just the 20 more needed for victory.

England's aggression won't change with that wicket. I think it is good for the middle order to get some time out in the middle. Amy Jones is a naturally aggressive player.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 9.1 overs

    N Sciver-Brunt c Hunter b Murray 5 (Eng 81-4)

Ireland have a fourth wicket as Nat Sciver-Brunt holes out to long off.

NSB was trying to up the ante again but didn't quite get to the pitch of leggie Cara Murray 's delivery.

Amy Hunter gets underneath it and makes no mistake with the catch.

  13. Eng 81-3published at 9 overs

Need another 25 runs to win

Can we bring Alice Capsey back in? This is all getting a bit sensible. Just four from the over as England close in on victory.

James Leeson: Brilliant effort from England women today. Listening on way to work

  15. Eng 77-3published at 8 overs

Need another 29 runs to win

Another quiet over in terms of runs, England mammoth net run-rate is taking a hit here...

Anyway, Heather Knight has joined Nat Sciver-Brunt. I did like the suggestion of going with NSB and KSB to save time, still waiting to hear back from top brass on whether that is acceptable practice...

Oh dear. Both players ended up in the middle of the pitch.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 7.2 overs

Wyatt run out 16 (Eng 74-3)

Big mix-up and Danni Wyatt is run out by a long way.

Wyatt pushed the ball into the covers and set off for a single, Nat Sciver-Brunt starts to come and then stops.

Wyatt has to turn back and is barely in the shot as Mary Waldron whips off the bails. I think Sciver-Brunt might have been right in thinking there was no run there.

  19. Eng 73-2published at 7 overs

Need another 33 runs to win

Nat Sciver-Brunt is the new batter. No respite for the Ireland bowlers then.

Kelly is bowling nicely though, varying her pace, and keeps England to just four from the over.

That is such a good take from Leah Paul. A brilliant piece of fielding, she had a lot of ground to make up.
