Glamorgan continue to dominate against Gloucestershire after building a commanding lead of 223 in Cardiff.

The hosts reached stumps on day two on 388-8, built around hundreds from Kiran Carlson and Billy Root. Glos need to take those two remaining wickets quickly but it already looks an uphill task.

Skipper Brett D’Oliveira and Jack Haynes led yesterday's Worcestershire fightback against Derbyshire to edge the Pears in front before close of play.

D’Oliveira scored an unbeaten 87 and England Lions man Haynes made 62 as Worcestershire reached 331-6, a lead of 10 runs after Derbyshire had earlier made 321.

England white ball star Dawid Malan hit a century on day two as Yorkshire racked up 517 against Leicestershire at Headingley.

Leicestershire are on 201-5 in reply, with Colin Ackermann hitting 67 before falling to Matt Milnes, but Peter Handscomb (62 not out) is also providing stiff resistance.

Cheteshwar Pujara scored his sixth hundred in only his ninth game for Sussex to frustrate Durham.

The 35-year-old India batter, who has taken over as captain at Hove this season, dominated Sussex's reply to Durham’s 376 all out with 115.

Oli Carter was the next highest scorer with 41 as Sussex closed on 332-9 – 44 adrift, setting things up for the next couple of days.

It was a little busier than normal heading into Old Trafford this morning with the roads and trams full of people.

As well as the cricket, 75,000 fans will flock to that other ground just down the road for a 'Lancashire' derby between Manchester United and Everton.

Views will be divided for that on, but what all Lancastrian cricket followers can agree on is that their team are in a big hole against champions Surrey.

The weather looks set fair for another belter, so Lancashire may have to get a sweat on to prise themselves out of this situation.

  4. The Weather Forecastpublished at 10:45 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

After some good Good Friday weather for the bigger bank holiday crowds, it looks like it might be more of the same today.

The overall BBC Weather summary for today predicts "after a dull start in the east, most will see a dry and bright day."

Good news for Taunton, especially, where Somerset and Warwickshire are still playing catch-up after the complete loss of the first day.

And there will be some extra hours bowled elsewhere too, to replace some of Thursday's lost hours.

So there might not be too many six o'clock finishes.

Welcome back for day three of the new 2023 County Championship season.

In stark contrast to the falling trees on the other side of the pond over in Augusta, it was a lovely Good Friday in England yesterday - although a bit of a Long one.

All nine matches are still in an interesting shape, some more advanced than others.

Somerset and Warwickshire are really only starting their second day today at Taunton, after the complete loss of day one.

But, at Southampton, it is entirely possible - and more than likely probable - that we will have a result there today.

Hope you can stick around and keep us company for the next eight hours or so.
