  1. Foxes in full flow in Leedspublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Yorkshire 517, Leicestershire 324-5 (86 overs)

Still no morning breakthrough for Yorkshire at Headingley.

After resuming on 201-5 Australian Peter Handscomb has gone to his first century for the Foxes against his former county, while Rehan Ahmed has hit 13 fours in his 79.

They have so far added 123 in the session, in a sixth-wicket stand that has reached 137.

  2. Postpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Lancashire 291 v Surrey 442 & 12-0

Rory Burns has just steered one down through gully for the first four of this Surrey second innings.

It has come in the seventh over. A very sedate start.

Maybe offering supporters the chance to follow events down Warwick Road!

  3. Dent and Harris making serious inroads into deficitpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

What a difference 48 hours makes.

After struggling on a seaming pitch under cloudy skies in their first innings, Gloucestershire are rattling along as they make serious inroads into a deficit of 239 in the Sophia Gardens sunshine.

Chris Dent and Marcus Harris both started fluently, with Dent finding the offside boundary regularly in contrast to his first innings struggles.

Earlier, honour was satisfied on both sides as Tom Price claimed the last two wickets to earn maximum bowling points for the Shire, but not before Billy Root (117 not out) had claimed a fourth batting point for Glamorgan.

  4. Durham under pressurepublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Durham 43-3 lead by 84

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Having ended up with a marginal first innings lead of just 41 runs, Durham find themselves under pressure at the moment.

With quite a bit of cloud cover in Hove, the new ball has been seaming around and Durham have lost three quick wickets. The bowling is certainly much tighter than it was on day one and the hosts are really for up for it right now.

Openers Michael Jones and Alex Lees fell for four and 17, while debutant Ben McKinney also departed for four. They were all caught by keeper Oli Carter. The latter two wickets both to the bowling of Henry Crocombe - and in the space of five deliveries.

The visitors need a partnership and someone to steady the nerves.

  5. Not much help for seamerspublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Somerset 284, Warwickshire 61-1

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Somerset were on the hunt for quick wickets - and they got one when Josh Davey found the outside edge of Rob Yates' bat in his very first over - and Craig Overton then had two close LBW appeals turned down by umpire Rob Bailey.

The pitch is offering some help to the seamers, but not much.

Will Rhodes is already on to 39, with opener Alex Davies on 20.

  6. Is there a Norwell in Notts' ranks?published at 12:34 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Hampshire 231 & 0-0 v Nottinghamshire 185 & 177

Liam Norwell celebrates a wicketImage source, Getty Images

Hampshire need 132 runs to win this game. It should be a breeze, right?

But regulars Hants followers will know that this is a typical game in which they are involved - excellent bowling but never enough confidence in the batting to be totally safe.

And remember the final game of last season. They only 139 to beat Warwickshire, relegate them and save Yorkshire.

Step forward Liam Norwell with his 9-62 as Hampshire ended six runs shy of their target. An afternoon few who saw it will ever forget.

WICKET Azad lbw Quinn 51published at 12:34 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Kent 222 v Northamptonshire 117 & 106-3

Hasan Azad had just reached his half-century but was pinned lbw the following ball - loss of concentration?

Whatever the reason it's been an important contribution, helping Northants move over the 100-run mark from their overnight total of 47-2.

Captain Luke Procter is having a steady innings on 37 and is now joined by Rob Keogh.

  8. wicket

WICKET Westley c Simpson b Murtagh 7published at 12:32 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Middlesex 170 v Essex 266 & 68-3

We just said they look hungry for more and they now have another one!

That's three quick wickets for Middlesex now as Tim Murtagh dismisses Tom Westley for just seven runs.

The Essex lead is 164 runs but they need to steady the ship a bit here.

Dan Lawrence got a century in the first innings and he's into the action now.

  9. Can Lancs come back?published at 12:27 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Lancashire 291 v Surrey 442 & 1-0

    Um-E-Aymen Babar
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

What a spectacular wicket to end Lancashire’s innings. Matt Parkinson's middle stump went absolutely flying!

It’s a beautiful day once again and Surrey won’t be too displeased with that performance.

They have outplayed Lancashire but can the Red Rose come back with their bowling attack now?

  10. wicket

    WICKET Cook c & b Higgins 28published at 12:22 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Middlesex 170 v Essex 266 & 60-2

Alastair Cook is gone and Middlesex have two!

It was all looking so good for Essex a short time ago but they've now lost two wickets in three overs for only eight runs.

Ryan Higgins snaps up a caught and bowled chance to remove the former England captain and Middlesex look hungry for more.

  11. wicket

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 177published at 12:21 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Hampshire 231 v Nottinghamshire 185 & 177

Liam Dawson does the business to end the Notts second innings.

A nicely flighted delivery from the left-armer spins sharply from outside off-stump past Liam Patterson-White's bat and hits the stumps.

Patterson-White lasted 65 balls for his 10. Will he wondered if he should have chanced his arm a bit more?

Hampshire need 132 runs for an opening victory.

  12. Postpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Glamorgan 404 v Glos 165 & 58-0

Gloucestershire have moved past 50 in their second innings at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.

Chris Dent (30*) and Marcus Harris (28*) have been scoring quickly since Glos bowled the home side out within the opening half-an-hour of play this morning.

The visitors need them to keep up the good work as they are still 181 runs adrift.

  13. Last pair not in any troublepublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Hampshire 231 v Nottinghamshire 185 & 175-9

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

Great first half hour for Hampshire picking up three of the four wickets they needed.

However since 11.35am they have not looked like taking a wicket at all.

Liam Patterson-White and Luke Fletcher have not looked in any trouble.

They look very solid, nothing is getting past the bat and they are benefiting from the fielders being scattered as Hampshire try to bowl primarily at Fletcher.

  14. Division Two updatepublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Sussex 335 v Durham 376 & 30-1

Durham opener Michael Jones has fallen for four to Sean Hunt.

They now lead by 71. This game is really up for grabs in this third innings of the match.

    Yorkshire 517, Leicestershire 267-5 (76 overs)

Good effort from Leicestershire in Leeds this morning.

Overnight partners Peter Handscomb and Rehan Ahmed, another Anglo-Aussie pairing, are accumulating well.

Ahmed, capped by England's Test team last winter but playing only his ninth first-class innings, has been particularly full of runs.

After resuming on 10, he has now reached his 50.

  16. Postpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Hampshire 231 v Nottinghamshire 185 & 175-9

We know they are up against good bowling but surely Notts must have a dart at some point.

They have added just 29 runs in 70 minutes and even another 20 runs would give them something to bowl at in the final innings.

Their lead is still only 129.

  17. wicket

LANCASHIRE ALL OUT FOR 291published at 12:05 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Lancashire 291 all out v Surrey 442

Matt Parkinson has his stumps splattered by Dan Worrall and that wraps up the Lancashire innings.

They have added 58 this morning as Colin de Grandhomme finishes 67 not out - a more than useful contribution.

Sean Abbott takes the applause from his Surrey team-mates as he finishes with 5-50.

They lead by 151 but Rory Burns is not going to enforce the follow-on - no surprise seeing how comfortably Lancashire resisted for over an hour.

  18. Postpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Hampshire 231 v Nottinghamshire 185 & 170-9

The last wicket pair have held up Hampshire for nearly half an hour now.

Liam Patterson-White has survived 41 balls today and Luke Fletcher 10.

The trouble is Patterson-White has only scored five and Fletcher is not yet off the mark.

    Notts now lead by 124.

  19. wicket

WICKET Browne c Stoneman b Murtagh 24published at 12:01 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Middlesex 170 v Essex 266 & 52-1

    Tim MurtaghImage source, Rex Features

First wicket of the morning for Middlesex!

Essex had looked to be making fairly serene progress as they reached 50 in their second innings but veteran bowler Tim Murtagh is showing he can still do the business at the age of 41!

He's had Nick Browne caught at extra cover by Mark Stoneman to make the early breakthrough.

  20. Sunshine and cable-knit jumpers at Tauntonpublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Somerset 284 Warwickshire 12-1

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

After being held up by Somerset's lower order yesterday, Warwickshire will have been relieved to have taken the last two wickets in the first half hour this morning.

Finishing teams off was a recurring problem for the Bears attack last season.

Somerset are now in the field on a pleasant sunny day at Taunton. But it's cool enough for the home players to be wearing their cable-knit jumpers offering spectators and commentators no help in identifying them!

Tom Lammonby has been identified as the fourth slip who took a good low catch to see off Rob Yates, who himself had a good time in the slip corden, claiming four Somerset first-innings victims.
