  1. Bad light stops play at The Ovalpublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Surrey 270 v Hampshire 254 & 198-5

With Nick Gubbins on 79 and Ian Holland on 25 the players troop off for bad light. That is probably it for the day.

Their partnership is 79 and the Hampshire lead is up to 182. The second new ball is due in 14 overs.

Whatever plans you have for Sunday lunch, cancel them! This should be great!

    Crawley lbw b Ruthworth 12 (Warwickshire 453-4 dec v Kent 158 & 17-1)

Just like the first innings. It looked like it might just have been drifting down the leg side but once again, Zak Crawley has got to go. A day to forget for the England man, as typically good as a couple of his shots looked.

With six overs left in the day Matt Quinn is in at three. Some might call him a nightwatchman.

The pitch is showing signs of slowing down in pace making batting look easier. Thanks to Nick Gubbins, Hampshire’s lead tonight, assuming we get a full allocation of overs in, could be somewhere near 200.

However the second new ball would be due within a handful of overs tomorrow morning. The lead feels nowhere near enough. Gubbins has played very well indeed, Hampshire still need a-lot more from him and the lower order to extend that lead.

  4. Postpublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Surrey 270 v Hampshire 254 & 195-5

What a ball from Tom Lawes, he nearly cuts Ian Holland in two as the ball flies over middle stump. A great take by Jamie Smith, keeping in the absence of Ben Foakes, flying to his left too.

Nick Gubbins is there on 77 and the Hampshire lead is 179. Just like the first innings they have done a superb job of recovering from a slow start to cause Surrey problems.

We have a dozen overs left but the light is failing. Not sure we see all 12.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:29 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Lees lbw b Gibbon 22 (Durham 425-9 dec & 39-2 v Worcs 366-5 dec)

Ben Gibbon traps Alex Lees in front and Worcestershire stay in the game after their declaration earlier on.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Patterson-White c C Overton b Gregory (Notts 256 & 161-6 v Soms 173)

Lewis Gregory draws Liam Patterson-White forward, the ball takes the edge and Craig Overton takes a comfortable catch at slip.

Somerset are giving themselves every chance of giving themselves a chaseable target.

  7. 6 runs

    Notts 256 & 156-5 v Soms 173

Steven Mullaney swings Lewis Gregory towards the midwicket boundary, where a leaping Craig Overton can't quite get to what would have been a spectacular catch.

Notts' lead is now 239, but it looks like Tom Moores won't be available to bat.

  8. Postpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Surrey 270 v Hampshire 254 & 171-5

Big yell from Cam Steel after Ian Holland stretches forward to try and dab down the Surrey spinner, but no joy.

The lead is up to 159. Surrey would love a breakthrough. There are 16 overs remaining and the shower has passed. This is really in the balance still. Brilliant advert for the County Championship.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Hollman c Berg b Procter 30 (Northants 198 v Middlesex 149 & 167)

Luke Hollman holes out off the bowling of Luke Procter, but the wicket is secured thanks to a superb catch from Gareth Berg. The veteran Northants man raced in from the boundary to hold on after a full-length dive forwards.

That brings the Middlesex innings to a close. Northants need 119 runs to wrap up victory. There are 15 overs left tonight. They couldn't, could they?

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Jones b Leach 9 (Durham 425-9 dec and 25-1 v Worcs 366-5

Joe Leach rumbles in and bowls Michael Jones neck and crop, jagging one back to uproot the middle pole right out of the ground.

    Durham lead by 84.

  11. Postpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Warwickshire 453-4 dec v Kent 158 & 0-0

It feels like only a moment ago that Zak Crawley and Ben Compton were striding out to the middle in Birmingham.

In fact it was 47.1 overs and four-and-a-half hours ago.

Warwickshire have been fantastic, Kent have not. How much more damage will be done in the gloaming?

  12. Postpublished at 18:09 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Northants 198 v Middlesex 149 & 167-9

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

Captain Toby Roland-Jones has led with bat and ball today but it's only just keeping Middlesex's heads above water.

Tom Helm has just been bowled off an inside edge and with one wicket remaining the visitors second innings lead is only 113.

Luke Hollman remains as impressive and calm at the crease as ever and admired his skipper's lusty blows but will now need to open up and find a quickfire cameo to top up the target.

Seam has been prevalent for Northamptonshire - indeed one appearing to do far too much to be hitting Mark Stoneman's stumps, but the scorebook says he's out - and overall doesn't make for great reading for Middlesex at this point.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Hogan b Hassan Ali 8 (Warwickshire 453-4 dec v Kent 158)

All out. Michael Hogan might just have got an inside edge onto his off stump off Hassan Ali there.

Credit to Matt Quinn who is nursing a groin strain but is stranded on 22 not out, his best score on these shores. Kent's second highest score of the innings.

The visitors will be back out shortly faced with negotiating a dozen of the most uncomfortable overs you can imagine before stumps. They trail by 295 runs.

Warwickshire have bossed this game in every respect.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:02 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Helm b Procter 3 Northants 198 v Middlesex 149 & 162-9)

It's all going wrong for Middlesex at Wantage Road now as Tom Helm drags Luke Procter on to his stumps attempting a big booming drive. They lead Northants by 113 runs now.

That delivery broke off stump so there's a short delay while a member of the Northants groundstaff deliver a replacement to the middle.

  15. Postpublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Surrey 270 v Hampshire 254 & 156-5

While the shadows lengthen and the field is bathed in sunshine, rain is falling... big ol' fat rain, as Forest Gump would call it.

April really is a weird weather month, isn't it?

    Play continues, for now!

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    James c&b Leach 32 (Notts 256 & 126-5 v Soms 173)

Jack Leach takes a wicket with his second ball!

Lyndon James had batted really well but he undoes the good work by patting the ball straight back to the England spinner.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Roland-Jones st McManus b Keogh 37 (Northants 198 v Middlesex 149 & 159-8)

Toby Roland-Jones' luck had to run out sooner or later. Northants' Rob Keogh saw the Middlesex skipper advancing down the pitch to his off-spin and pushed it wide. Roland-Jones was well short of his ground by the time Lewis McManus whipped the bails off.

  18. Postpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Northants 198 v Middlesex 149 & 158-7

Toby Roland-Jones' counterattack continues as the shadows lengthen at Wantage Road. The Middlesex skipper now has 37 off 28 balls with five fours and one six. Luke Hollman a little more reserved with 25 off 56.

  19. Postpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Surrey 270 v Hampshire 254 & 152-5

Big appeal from Jordan Clark for lbw against Nick Gubbins, but there might just have been a bit of bat on that before it thudded the pads.

Hampshire are past 150, Gubbins is still there on 54, Ian Holland has 16, the lead is 138.

    Sunday could be epic.

  20. Worcestershire declarepublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Durham 425-9 dec v Worcs 366-5 dec

The Pears have declared 59 behind, with Jack Haynes on 134 not out.

That could get this game going if Worcestershire can get a few wickets tonight, with 20 overs still possible at a sunny Chester-le-Street.
