  1. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Compton lbw b Rushworth 14 (Warwickshire 453-4 dec v Kent 35-2)

    Big scalp.

Ben Compton is not impressed by this decision from umpire Martin Saggers. He was well down the pitch but his forward defensive shot missed the ball and he's trudgling back to the hutch.

Joe Denly enters the fray. How Kent could do with one of his good days.

A play and miss at his first delivery. Kent really up against it here.

  2. Postpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Warwickshire 453-4 dec v Kent 35-1

Oli Hannon-Dalby replaces Chris Woakes in the attack and produces a testing maiden over to begin, thumping Daniel Bell-Drummond's pads on a couple of occasions and producing some optimistic appeals. Nothing doing though.

  3. Postpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Essex 219 v Lancashire 207 & 143-4

Sam Cook is probing away outside Keaton Jennings' off stump but the Lancs skipper has left the ball well and defended when he has needed to. He and George Bell have put on 33 for the fifth wicket, which was what the Red Rose county needed to steady the ship.

  4. Postpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Notts 256 & 20-0 v Soms 173

Overton v Hameed is shaping up into a nice contest.

The big seamer whips a couple past the opener's outside edge, before the batter responds with a crisp drive through mid on for another boundary.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Malan b Sanderson 0 (Northants 198 v Middlesex 149 & 30-2)

Middlesex still trail Northants and have lost two wickets, after Ben Sanderson gets his second of the day. Fresh on the back of a beauty to dismiss Sam Robson he's knocked over Pieter Malan, who shouldered arms to one that nipped back in, without scoring.

  6. Postpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Surrey 270 v Hampshire 254 & 51-3

Liam Dawson brings up the Hampshire 50, with Nick Gubbins moving to 13 at the other end.

The Hampshire lead swells to 35 but they are another side who really need to string some partnerships together and bat for time.

Confirmation that my earlier suspicions were correct, Sean Abbott, in addition to his spectacular unbeaten half-century before lunch, has dismissed James Vince twice in three balls in this match. Nice way to make your home debut as an overseas.

  7. Postpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Durham 425-9 dec v Worcs 240-4

The Pears are really ekeing it out in the north-east, still over 180 behind with Jack Haynes 69 not out.

  8. Postpublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Warwickshire 453-4 dec v Kent 29-1

Daniel Bell-Drummond tucks in with gusto after Chris Rushworth overpitches one and creams it to the mid-wicket boundary.

Barring a collapse, the scoreboard is largely irrelevant, Kent are batting for time, but they have reached 29-1 with Bell-Drummond settling in nicely on his way to 19.

  9. Postpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Essex 219 v Lancashire 207 & 133-4

The diminutive George Bell looks a nice compact player for Lancashire here having nudged the ball gaps confidently. Meanwhile, Simon Hamer has beaten the outside edge of Keaton Jennings' bat with a beauty. The ball drifted into the left hander's toes as he pushed forward and then fizzed away sharply.

    Notts 256 and 4-0 v Soms 173

    Shot!

Haseeb Hameed on-drives Craig Overton past the non striker for the first runs in the shape of a boundary.

  11. Postpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Essex 219 v Lancashire 207 & 131-4

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire commentator

It appears Keaton Jennings is looking to anchor the innings on what still looks like an awkward pitch to bat on.

It's his second half century to start the season, as he aims to emulate an outstanding 2022 where he finished as the club's leading run scorer and scooped up most of the end of season awards.

Jennings has the added responsibility of captaincy this season, if he's still batting at tea then Lancashire could be in a very healthy position in the match.

  12. Postpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Notts 256 and 0-0 v Soms 173

Haseeb Hameed and Ben Duckett - past and present England openers - are all set to add to Nottinghamshire's lead of 83.

Craig Overton will charge in, making it an intriguing all-international sub-plot at Trent Bridge.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Robson b Sanderson 12 (Northants 198 v Middlesex 149 & 29-1)

Sam Robson is the first wicket to fall in Middlesex's second innings after a peach of a delivery from Ben Sanderson. The Northants seamer nips one back off a length to bowl the former England opener through the gate. That, was a beauty.

  14. Postpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Essex 219 v Lancs 207 & 130-4

The spin of Simon Harmer into the attack for Essex for the first time today but Keaton Jennings, who has moved on to 60, and wicketkeeper George Bell (14) both look fairly comfortable so far.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Davey c Hutton b Paterson 60 (Notts 256 v Soms 173 all out)

    Curse of the commentator klaxon!

Dane Paterson gets Josh Davey to drive outside off stump, but it takes the edge and Brett Hutton takes a smart catch just to his right at first slip.

Davey batted really well for his 60, and Notts have a lead of 83.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Crawley lbw b Rushworth 0 (Warwickshire 453-4 dec v Kent 6-1)

Chris Rushworth pins the England opener for a duck to start the fourth over.

Zak Crawley survived a big appeal in the previous over but has to go this time after a tentative push at Rushworth, who is in the absolute zone in his first couple of overs.

Daniel Bell-Drummond joins Ben Compton in the middle. Kent need those two to stick around, but Chris Woakes and Rushworth have other ideas.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Vince c Pope b Abbott 1 (Surrey 270 v Hampshire 254 & 34-3)

Oof James Vince. Back foot punch, edge to second slip. Big wicket for Sean Abbott.

He's got out in identical fashion to the same bowler in both innings - I think Abbott might actually have got him out in two of three deliveries to him.

He is clearly frustrated, and with his obvious talent, you can understand why.

Liam Dawson is next in line.

They were 39-4 in the first innings. It's 34-3 now.

  18. Postpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Notts 256 v Soms 169-9

Peter Siddle crunches Brett Hutton through the covers for four as Somerset take six off the first over after lunch.

The ninth wicket fell at 118, putting this partnership, nopw past 50, firmly in the file marked 'massively irritating'.

  19. Postpublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Northants 198 v Middlesex 149 & 20-0

Two boundaries in the first 10 overs for Middlesex as Mark Stoneman (8) and Sam Robson (12) continue to eke away at Northants' first-innings lead. Conditions for batting look much better at Wantage Road than earlier this morning when Northants lost seven wickets.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Organ c Sibley b Worrall 11 (Surrey 270 v Hampshire 254 & 28-2)

Felix Organ is deceived by some late swing from a fuller length delivery from Dan Worrall. He had to do something, but edge it to Dom Sibley at first slip wasn't what he'd have wanted.

Sibley, as he did in the first innings in catching James Vince, took two bites at the cherry.

Vince is the new man too. What a seamless link.
