  1. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Bancroft lbw b Paterson 27 (Notts 256 v Somerset 37-3)

Dane Paterson has the first wicket of the day at Trent Bridge, pinning Cameron Bancroft on the front pad. He'd barely got forward and the umpire didn't delay in lifting the finger of doom.

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Smith b Abbott 11 (Surrey 162-5 v Hampshire 254)

Kyle Abbott has been bang on the money and he's got his reward.

The Hampshire man gets one to nip back through the gate to send Jamie Smith's off-stump cartwheeling away.

Cam Steel is out to the middle to join Pope.

    Fascinatingly poised, this.

  3. 50 runs

for Popepublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Surrey 158-4 v Hampshire 254

Not his quickest, 104 balls it took, and by no means his most comfortable, but Pope has a half-century, clipped off his hips into the leg side for two.

  4. Postpublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Northants 116-4 v Middlesex 149

The sun is just starting to peek through the clouds at Wantage Road, but runscoring is not particularly easy for Northamptonshire at the moment. Josh Cobb has joined Rob Keogh at the crease and the latter has managed the first runs of the day, courtesy of the first boundary of the day guided down to third.

  5. Postpublished at 11:18 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Somerset 32-2 v Notts 256

Stuart Broad is pounding in at Trent Bridge, no wickets as yet and he's opting for an optimistic sunhat when in the outfield.

  6. Postpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Worcestershire 103-2 v Durham 425-9 dec

The groundstaff are doing some urgent-looking work to the footholds at Chester-le-Street as Matthew Potts looks to improve on his 2-42 so far.

  7. Postpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Surrey 155-4 v Hampshire 254

Mohammad Abbas replaces James Fuller at the earliest opportunity to resume his box-office duel with Ollie Pope... though it's Jamie Smith who is first to be outfoxed by the wily former Pakistan seamer this morning.

Kyle Abbott and Abbas charging in at Pope with the game in the balance in the first hour of day three... this is what it's all about.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 45.5 overs

    Procter c Eskinazi b Bamber 39 (Northants 111-4)

After no play at all yesterday we are underway on time in Northampton where Middlesex have got themselves an early wicket.

Luke Procter tentatively poked at the fifth ball of the day from Ethan Bamber and Stephen Eskinazi took a fine diving low-handed catch in the slips.

  9. Postpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Surrey 154-4 v Hampshire 254

A nice prompt start at The Oval, where James Fuller has finished off his over from last night in the gloaming.

104.3 overs scheduled for today with lunch set for 13:10 BST.

Kyle Abbott was in fine form yesterday afternoon, can he keep up the pressure on Ollie Pope and Jamie Smith in the opening hour today?

  11. Prompt start in CLSpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Durham 425-9d, Worcs 96-2

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Only 43 overs were possible in CLS yesterday as heavy rain arrived in the afternoon to end play at 2.40pm. By that point Worcestershire had lost the wickets of Ed Pollock for 41 and Azhar Ali for 29.

Ali's wicket was actually the point in the game when the umpires took the players off as drizzle turned to a downpour.

The rain continued well into the evening and there was a heavy downpour about 5am, but the ground staff have done a good job and it would appear day three will start on time.

  13. Edgbaston pitch inspectionpublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

It's far sunnier in Birmingham that it was on Friday and the players have been out warming-up, but it's no great surprise that there will be a delayed start.

The umpires took a walk around at 10.30 BST and have decided they will need another look at some damp areas at 11.30 BST. You might just be able to see the heat lamp in action in the picture from BBC Radio Kent's Matt Cole at Edgbaston.

Not sure Kent will mind too much after toiling in the dirt for 96 overs on Thursday as their hosts amassed 367-3 with Rob Yates and Sam Hain reaching three-figures.

  14. Chelmsford pitch inspectionpublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

There will be a delayed start at Chelmsford where Lancashire are set to resume their second innings on 82-1, a lead of 70 runs.

The umpires will undertake a pitch inspection at 11:00 (BST) after rain overnight. Essex posted on Twitter: "The groundstaff are hard at work after torrential rain overnight and this morning. The weather has improved and the team has already cleared a huge amount of water, but there is still standing water on the pitch. We'll update you on the start time as soon as we can."

  15. Leicestershire v Derbyshire - Day three washed outpublished at 10:49 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

Heavy rain overnight means that day three at Leicester has gone the same way as day two - a total washout.

Leics closed day one on 243-2, so if the weather clears up for day four there will have to be some kind of collaboration between the captains to engineer the possibility of a result.

  16. Gloucestershire v Yorkshire - Match abandonedpublished at 10:47 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

Bad news from Bristol, where after the first two days were washed out, the whole match has now been abandoned.

In a tweet, Gloucs have said, "Due to extremely high amounts of rain in the weeks and days leading up to and during this match, we have an abnormally high water table and had no reasonable prospect of the outfield drying and creating a safe playing surface for players."

  17. Good morning..published at 10:45 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

Far too many scenes like this over the past couple of days but the forecast for the weekend is significantly better and we have cricket starting at 11:00 BST... in some parts of the country at least.

Settle in for seven-ish hours of thrills and spills from the County Championship.
