McKerr lbw Woakes 14 (Warwickshire 453-4 dec v Kent 133-9)

An eye-catching cameo from Conor McKerr comes to an end as he plays across the line and becomes Chris Woakes' second victim.

Only two of his teammates scored more than McKerr, which tells the story, I suppose.

    Kent are still 320 behind.

Michael Hogan is last man on what is turning from an uncomfortable afternoon into an excrutiating one for the visitors.

    Surrey 270 v Hampshire 254 & 139-5

There is wet stuff falling from the sky. The sun remains out. They will play on. Hardy lot these cricketers.

It looks like just a sprinkle, the sun will win this particular duel.

  3. 50 runs

for Gubbinspublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Surrey 270 v Hampshire 254 & 139-5

Nick Gubbins hasn't won the game for his side, far from it, but he's at least kept them in it, for now.

He's found the ropes six times in his half-century, his 36th in first-class cricket, and scampers through for a quick single. 132 balls it took.

  4. Postpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Northants 198 v Middlesex 149 & 141-7

Toby Roland-Jones is getting on with it, he's smashed 28 off just 20 balls thus far to stretch Middlesex's lead. These runs might be vital in the final analysis.

  5. Postpublished at 17:32 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Surrey 270 v Hampshire 254 & 136-5

Another life for Nick Gubbins who gets an edge off a Kemar Roach delivery which drops inches, and I mean inches, short of Dom Sibley's fingers at first slip.

Infact that diving attempt is a really good stop, Sibley's probably saved four runs there.

There are moody clouds gathering to the east. The lights might be coming on here. I just hope they are not the ones which have put paid to the day's play at Chelmsford.

  6. Postpublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Durham 425-9 dec v Worcs 347-5

Jack Haynes is grinding onwards glacially, he's on 124 off 241 deliveries as Worcestershire plod on at Chester-le-Street.

  7. Postpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Notts 256 & 106-4 v Soms 173

Peter Siddle is working up a head of steam, and Craig Overton is no slouch either.

It'll be a while before we see Jack Leach I think, it's tricky for the batters at the moment against these two high-class seamers.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Slater c Bancroft b C Overton 24 (Notts 256 & 93-4 v Soms 173)

Oh, what a catch! What. A. Catch!

Ben Slater pushes at Craig Overton, coming around the wicket, the ball flashes low to second slip and Cameron Bancroft pulls off abrilliant grab just above the turf.

Somerset are really pumped up now as they sense a chance of a comeback.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Simpson c Cobb b Tremain 15 (Northants 198 v Middlesex 149 & 107-7)

There's no stopping Chris Tremain this evening as he bags his third wicket of the evening session for Northants - and his 300th in first-class cricket. John Simpson is the latest Middlesex batter to depart after he tamely spoons a ball back of a length from Tremain to the hands of Josh Cobb in the point region.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Evison lbw b Hannon-Dalby 0 Kent 112-8

Pinned. Oli Hannon-Dalby has his second after beating Joey Evison all ends up.

He looks disconsolate as he trudges off after a seven-ball duck but the truth is Warwickshire have just been too good for Kent.

Conor McKerr joins Matt Quinn with 192 needed to avoid the follow on.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

Billings c Burgess b Woakes (Warwickshire 453-4 dec Kent 112-7)

Another good bowling change from Warwickshire skipper Will Rhodes and another wicket.

Sam Billings flashes at a drive but Chris Woakes gets a bit of movement and there is the faintest nick to Michael Burgess behind the stumps.

Well, the umpire thinks so, even if Billings doesn't look convinced and stands for a good few seconds.

Matt Quinn is the new man in the firing line. He hit his only ball at Edgbaston for six before Kent declared last summer. He'll need to face plenty more than that this season.

  12. Postpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Northants 198 v Middlesex 149 & 106-6

John Simpson and Luke Hollman have steadied the ship a little for Middlesex after those two wickets early in the evening session. They are on unbeaten on 14 and 12 respectively. Middlesex lead Northants by 57 runs with four wickets in hand. Could be a crucial period in the context of the game.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Cox b Hannon-Dalby 17 (Warwickshire 453-4 dec v Kent 110-6)

Jordan Cox leaves a straight one with something approaching a flourish but Oli Hannon-Dalby gets it to jag back and clip the top of off stump.

This is the exact opposite of what Kent needed. Cox had showed some nice touches in his short stay.

Joey Evison joins skipper Sam Billings for the mammoth task at hand.

  14. dropped catch

James dropped first ballpublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Notts 256 & 83-3 v Soms 173

Lyndon James edges his first ball from Peter Siddle low to third slip, but Craig Overton cannot hold on to a difficult chance.

Notts lead by 166, and we are not sure of Tom Moores will bat after going off with a finger injury earlier on.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Brown lbw b Worrall 32 (Surrey 270 v Hampshire 254 & 119-5)

Dan Worrall gets one to stay low and thumps Ben Brown in the pads. He knew. By the time he looked up the finger was already up.

Brown was key to Hampshire being in a competitive position but after his first innings 95, he goes for 32.

Ian Holland will seek to stick with Nick Gubbins with a lead of 105 and now only five wickets remaining.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Clarke lbw b Siddle 7 (Notts 256 & 83-3 v Soms 173)

    Gone!

Joe Clarke doesn't get forward and the wily Peter Siddle has second wicket of the day.

Somerset are just about hanging on, and now here is Lyndon James on a king pair.

  17. Postpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Warwickshire 453-4 dec v Kent 104-5

Didn't think I'd be writing this but Sam Billings brings up Kent's 100 with a six off Ed Barnard four balls after Jordan Cox dispatches him to the ropes.

11 off the over. Another 11 of those overs and Kent... would still be well short.

  18. Play abandoned at Chelmsfordpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Essex 219 v Lancashire 207 & 167-4

With little sign of the weather improving play has now been abandoned for the day at the County Ground, much to the frustration of Lancashire and Essex fans with this one quite finely poised. Keaton Jennings will resume on Sunday unbeaten on 80 while George Bell is 30 not out. Still a slim chance of a result tomorrow with the forecast much better.

  19. Postpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Surrey 270 v Hampshire 254 & 117-4

The lead is into three figures. Nick Gubbins and Ben Brown look pretty comfortable at 40 and 31 respectively.

35 overs left and with the clear skies above South London there's a chance we get them all in, having gone off for bad light twice on Friday afternoon.

  20. Postpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 15 April 2023

    Warwickshire 453-4 dec v Kent 93-5

Kent fans won't need reminding but they are still 211 runs away from avoiding the follow-on.

Just how uncomfortable their Sunday will prove to be depends very much on what happens in the remaining 30 overs of today.

Jordan Cox and Sam Billings are, understandably, in no hurry and taking no risks.
