    Kent 71-0 v Essex 451-5 dec

That is how to bring up a fifty!

The first ball Zak Crawley faces from Simon Harmer and he dances down the wicket to the South Africa off-spinner and launches it straight on for six!

Crawley has been gifted some balls to get going, but this has been an easy 50, with ten fours and that big six.

There are more runs to be had on this pitch against this Essex attack.

Game set and match at Wantage Road as Chris Tremain plays too early at a slower ball from Mohammad Abbas and is bowled for 13.

It is Hampshire's biggest innings win in the Championship and Northamptonshire's eighth-heaviest defeat and worst since losing to Yorkshire by an innings and 343 runs at Headingley 20 years ago.

Having begun the day on 95-5 in their first innings, they lost 13 wickets for 117 runs with James Fuller taking 6-37 earlier in the day, and Abbas 4-31 in their second knock.

Lewis McManus was unable to bat because of a damaged finger.

Middlesex fans, please look away now.

Great reflex grab at ankle height.

    Sussex 361 & 84-5 v Yorks 298

The gulls are squawking nervously at Hove as Sussex are trying to bat their way back into this match.

Hudson-Prentice tries to hit Bess over the top and the ball only just clears Fisher at mid off for four.

But his next shot is much more convincing as the batter lofts Bess over wide long on for six.

  5. Division Two updatepublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 22 April 2023

Durham have another wicket in Cardiff with Sam Northeast caught off Ben Raine caught off Brydon Carse, who was unlucky when he struck Kiran Carlson on the helmet and the ball bounced down into the stumps, but did not dislodge a bail.

Glamorgan are 73-4 with Carlson and Billy Root now together.

Steady progress by Gloucestershire at New Road where they are 26-0 in their second innings, a lead over Worcestershire of exactly 100.

    Northants 149 & 52-8 v Hants 482-8 dec

Northants go past their lowest first-class score as Chris Tremain squirts James Fuller away for four runs. The next one flashes past his nose in a classic fast bowler's response.

    Middlesex 213-7 v Notts 364

Broad is bowling an excellent spell here - and he currently has 4-49.

Higgins steps outside off and drives the bowler to mid on but he hasn't timed it and there's no run.

Middlesex need a couple more runs to avoid the follow on.

    Kent 53-0 v Essex 451-5 dec

The Kent openers bring up a half-century partnership in appropriate fashion with a Zak Crawley four.

This is the best of the lot, though. Ben Allison is a touch full outside off and Crawley drives it sweetly down the ground for four.

    He is now on 38.

    Clark lbw b Bess 4

    Four and out for Clark.

lovely line and flight from the Yorkshire spinner as the batter is hit in front of middle stump.

Oli Carter and Fynn Hudson-Prentice are going to try and stem the flow of wickets for Sussex.

    They've crashed to 41-0 to 66-5.

Where's your money on this one now?

    Middlesex 211-7 v Notts 364

The new Middlesex batter is Martin Andersson - and he's facing Dane Paterson with two slips behind the bat.

He aims a flashing drive outside off and misses. Nervy times for the hosts.

    Balderson c Rew b Gregory 26 (Somerset 441 v Lancashire 469-5)

    Gone!

George Balderson's eyes light up when Lewis Gregory goes a bit wider, but the ball gets up enough to take the edge of the bat and is caught behind.

Three wickets today for Gregory - a fine effort in the circumstances.

    Somerset 441 v Lancashire 465-4

A very nice shot from George Bell - full of wrist - as he turns a ball from middle through midwicket for four.

Not quite at the pace as what's gone before, but the two young Georges, Bell and Balderson, have accumulated nicely.

  14. wicket

    Pujara lbw b Thompson 13

Tom Clark is the new Sussex batter and he's off the mark with four flicked behind square off a leg side ball bowled by Jordan Thompson.

But Pujara is gone! Huge breakthrough for Yorkshire.

An in-ducker misses the defensive prod of the Sussex captain and traps him in front of middle.

    Sussex are in trouble.

    Berg c Dawson b Abbas 14 (Northants 149 & 48-7 v Hants 482-8 dec)

Another one gone. Gareth Berg jabs at a ball from Mo Abbas and steers it to second slip where Liam Dawson takes the catch. The three Hampshire seamers really are on top of their game today but this is a limp effort by the home side.

Northamptonshire's lowest total against Hampshire was 50 on this same ground in 1926.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 22 April 2023

    Hollman lbw b Broad 20

Broad continues his spell from the Pavilion End.

Two slips and a gully and the veteran bowler is moving the ball down the slope.

He was off the field for a little while before the break but there's no suggestion of any niggles here.

Big shout for lbw off the 4th ball and Hollman has gone!

Struck on the toes plumb in front. That looked very out indeed.

    Procter b Fuller 18 (Northants 149 & 46-6 v Hants 482-8 dec)

We told you James Fuller was starting to swing the ball and he does so with devastating effect to send Northants skipper Luke Procter on his way.

A prodigious inswinger bowled from round the wicket beats Procter's attempt at a cover drive and Hampshire need only three more to win with Lewis McManus unable to bat.
