To coincide with Steve Smith's first innings for Sussex - now over - we asked you to tell us who the best overseas player to have played for your county was. Here are a couple of responses.

From Tim: "#bbccricket, external As a Sussex fan I remember watching Imran Khan in his heyday - he was pretty special."

From Adam: "#bbccricket, external for Glamorgan been spoilt. King Viv Richards changed culture and won a trophy or Waqar Younis bowled us to County Champ in 1997 and recently good old Marnus who loves it in South Wales."

    WICKET - Stone c Bell b Balderson 22published at 12:44 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Notts 188-8 v Lancashire 214

Notts were bang in trouble when their seventh wicket fell earlier this morning, but Haseeb Hameed and Olly Stone have put on a much-needed 50 for the eighth wicket.

I was just about to ask how much longer can they continue... and then Stone edges behind.

Stuart Broad is now batting for Notts.

  3. wicket

WICKET - Davies lbw b Abbas 51published at 12:42 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Hampshire 229 v Warwickshire 95-2

Alex Davies has gone. He's not looked completely comfortable and wily old Mohammad Abbas has got him. It was tight, but might have been flicking off stump.

That's Abbas' 22nd wicket of the season.

Sam Hain is in at five. Warwickshire are 17-2 in this opening 25 minutes. A tricky session for them.

  4. Postpublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcs 264 v Sussex 141-4

James Coles flicks Ben Gibbon away for four but the bowler thinks he has him next up - only for the umpire to turn down the appeal for a catch behind the wicket.

A lot of onus now on Chesteshwar Pujara - who is 35 not out - if Sussex are to achieve a first-innings lead following the dismissal of Steve Smith.

  5. 50 runs

for Alex Daviespublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Hampshire 229 v Warwickshire 94-1

Alex Davies risks leaving one from Kyle Abbott and I have no idea how that's not hit the stumps. Plenty of help for Abbott and Mohammad Abbas today, much more than there was last night.

Davies uses that extra adrenaline to slash through the covers two balls later, his seventh four brings up his 37th first-class half-century.

It took him 90 balls and has given his side a fine platform to build on here.

  6. Postpublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Yorkshire 94-8 v Glamorgan 245

Worrying moments as Jonny Bairstow receives some treatment on the field. It looks like he was hit on the inside of his leg but in an area not protected by his pads.

Doesn't appear to be any lasting damage and he's carrying on. England followers sigh with relief.

Early lunch at Derbypublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Derbys 189-3 v Leics 122

The players are going to take lunch at the Incora County Ground, with only 12 overs of play possible so far.

The umpires plan to inspect at 1.00pm, so let's hope we'll see some more cricket later on.

  8. An unforgettable hour or so of Steve Smithpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcestershire 264, Sussex 128-4

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at New Road

Well, what an entertaining little cameo that was.

An hour and 19 minutes of classic Steve Smith. All his little whims and foibles at the crease.

Five majestic boundaries. 30 runs. 57 balls. All that and a 10-minute break to change his helmet.

It is a feather in the cap for Josh Tongue to get him - and of particular note to the England selectors, who have had the Worcestershire paceman on their radar for a while, when fit..

But the decision from umpire Peter Hartley to give him was slightly questionable. Maybe a touch high!

At least we still have another Test class player to watch out there, India's Cheteshwar Pujara, who has arguably hit the two most attractive boundaries of the morning.

  9. Postpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Essex 314 v Surrey 55-0

Shane Snater comes in again and Rory Burns carves it away square for four. A stroke of authority and intent by the Surrey skipper.

He is 27 not out and Dom Sibley has 24.

  10. wicket

    WICKET - Gouldstone c Rew b Siddle 2published at 12:32 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Somerset v Northamptonshire 181-6

Peter Siddle gets the youngster, but it's not vintage stuff from the Aussie.

He tempts Harry Gouldstone into an attempted pull to a loose ball down the leg side but his timing is off, the ball nicks off the glove and sails through to James Rew who takes a diving catch to his left.

Somerset have hauled themselves back into this one - Northants were 116-1 at one stage.

  11. wicket

HAT-TRICK FOR MICHAEL NESERpublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Yorkshire 90-8 v Glamorgan 245

Steve Smith might be out, but his Australia team-mate Michael Neser has a moment to remember - a hat-trick at Headingley.

Huge celebrations among the Glamorgan players as Neser hoops one back in to Dom Bess, who leaves alone and - like George Hill before him - sees the ball clatter into his stumps.

    He has 6-27 now.

And then almost four in four balls! But an lbw shout against Jordan Thompson is turned down - and it's a no-ball anyway.

  12. Postpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Somerset v Northamptonshire 181-5

What a ball from Peter Siddle to beat the outside edge.

Harry Gouldstone, the 22-year-old who will keep for Northants as Lewis McManus has a broken finger, won't have seen many like that in his young career, but he lives to fight another day.

James Sales streakily edges Kasey Aldridge past the slips to begin the next over then lifts another rising delivery for another, more intentional boundary, before Aldridge just misses the edge himself.

    Nip and tuck, this one.

  13. wicket

WICKET - Smith lbw Tongue 30published at 12:27 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcs 264 v Sussex 128-4

As Richie Benaud used to say: "Got 'im."

Steve Smith's 57-ball innings comes to an end as Josh Tongue wins an lbw decision to remove the Australia batter.

Smith doesn't look over-impressed as the ball jagged back and struck him above the knee roll.

  14. Postpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcs 264 v Sussex 127-3

It doesn't get any better than that.

Matthew Waite sends down a half-volley, Steve Smith puts his foot to the pitch and strokes it sublimely through cover for four.

He is 30 not out but is beaten twice by Josh Tongue in the next over - a reminder that even cricketing superstars are human.

  15. for Michael Neserpublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Yorkshire 90-7 v Glamorgan 245

And with his very next ball, Michael Neser completes a five-for!

George Hill leaves alone and turns back to see his off bail dislodged.

Yorkshire in trouble. Dom Bess comes in to try to keep out the hat-trick ball.

  16. Postpublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Essex 314 v Surrey 47-0

They are back in the middle at Chelmsford - our third start of the morning. Shane Snater has the ball and Dom Sibley picks up a single to move to 24 not out. Essex will be looking for any lapse of concentration because of the rain delays.

  17. wicket

WICKET - Malan lbw b Neser 25published at 12:24 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Yorkshire 90-6 v Glamorgan 245

A wicket falls at Headingley and it's Dawid Malan who goes, trapped lbw by Michael Neser - who now has four wickets.

  18. Postpublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcs 264 v Sussex 118-3

You can't bowl there to Steve Smith and he flicks Matthew Waite away to long leg for an easy boundary.

A no-ball bouncer from Josh Tongue in the next over brings up a 50 partnership for Smith and Cheteshwar Pujara.

This was the scene earlier on (see below) when he walked out to bat.

  19. Postpublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Notts 174-7 v Lancashire 214

A good little period for Notts, this, as Olly Stone plays a couple of sumptuous cover drives to the boundary to continue eroding that Lancashire lead.

Haseeb Hameed has crept up to 80 not out and Notts are just 40 behind now.

  20. wicket

    WICKET - Yates c & b Abbott 26published at 12:17 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Hampshire 229 v Warwickshire 82-1

    Yes, yes they can.

Two balls after the wide, Kyle Abbott gets one to pitch into a foot mark and Rob Yates can't avoid tapping it back up to the big bowler who takes a simple catch.

Yates can't believe his luck. Neither can Abbott. A perfect start for the hosts.

Will Rhodes gets off the mark with a thick edge for a boundary.
