12:15 BST start at Southamptonpublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Hampshire 229 v Warwickshire 82-0

The rain has stopped and the mopping-up operation has begun. We should be in action in a little over half an hour.

Could we finally have action in all our games at the same time? We shall see...

  2. Postpublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Notts 133-6 v Lancashire 214

It was a thrill a minute at Trent Bridge yesterday, with 15 wickets and batters intent with getting on with it.

It's been a bit different today - 14 runs and one wicket in the first 40 minutes of play on day two.

Brett Hutton has survived 22 balls alongside Haseeb Hameed as the hosts aim to get close to - and possibly past - Lancashire's 214.

  3. Postpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Somerset v Northamptonshire 142-4

Great shot from Rob Keogh for the first runs of the morning.

Craig Overton gets one to nip back dangerously towards middle and leg but Keogh times a clip off his pads superbly to send the ball racing away to the rope at long leg.

  4. Under way at Tauntonpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Somerset v Northamptonshire 137-4

Huzzah. Lewis Gregory takes the ball to complete his over from yesterday afternoon.

Rob Keogh has seven while James Sales is yet to score.

The radar out west looks pretty wild, so let's enjoy ever minute of this while we can!

  5. Back under way at New Roadpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcestershire 264 v Sussex 75-3

Back under way at New Road after that unexpected 10-minute break.

And Steve Smith is off the mark from his 13th ball as he clubs a Ben Gibbon long hop to the extra cover boundary.

  6. Postpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Derbyshire 172-3 v Leicestershire 122

A delicious straight drive from Wayne Madsen off Chris Wright takes him to 28 and he follows up with a clip into the leg side for another three.

He looks to be warming up, which will not make Colin Ackermann feel any better after that drop, I'm sure.

The run rate has crept up towards four this morning and the lead is up to 50.

  7. Break in play at New Roadpublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcestershire 264, Sussex 71-3

Unexpected interruption in play at Worcester.

Steve Smith has called for something from the pavilion.

He removed his helmet, the umpires halted play, the 12th man came on with various items, including a towel - and play has been held up for five minutes.

We now suspect in the press box that it might simply be a change of helmet. And fellow batter Cheteshwar Pujara appears to be inspecting his own helmet too.

    We await official clarification!

  8. Postpublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Essex 314 v Surrey 25-0

Jamie Porter's luck isn't in at the moment.

Having conceded four runs to a false shot by Dom Sibley in his previous over, he squares up Rory Burns but sees the ball run down to third man for another boundary.

  9. Postpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Notts 127-6 v Lancashire 214

Big lbw shout against Haseeb Hameed but Will Williams' delivery appeared to be going down leg.

The Notts opener is still there on 58 not out.

  10. Postpublished at 11:22 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcs 264 v Sussex 71-3

The wicketkeeper is up at the stumps as Joe Leach continues to Cheteshwar Pujara.

He finds the edge but the ball flies past second slip and trundles away for four runs.

Steve Smith will be on strike again for the next over.

  11. Postpublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcs 264 v Sussex 67-3

A small, discreet feather in the cap of Ben Gibbon, who sends down a maiden over to Steve Smith. The Australian has yet to score and that will have increased any pressure he is feeling just a little bit. Then again, he may be one of those fortunate souls who is nerveless.

  12. Positive update from Headingleypublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

Yorkshire 62-5 v Glamorgan 245 - start delayed because of rain

Good news from Headingley - they hope to be starting day two at 12:00 BST providing there is no more rain in Leeds.

  13. Postpublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Essex 314 v Surrey 11-0

The first boundary of the day at Chelmsford goes to Dom Sibley, who runs Jamie Porter down to third man.

A single follows and Porter then beats Rory Burns with a peach of a delivery bowled from round the wicket.

  14. wicket

    WICKET - Mullaney c Anderson b Williams 27published at 11:13 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Notts 125-6 v Lancashire 214

James Anderson might not have taken any wickets with his bowling so far, but he's taken his second catch of the innings to give Lancashire a perfect start this morning.

Steven Mullaney showed he wanted to play positively with a couple of attacking shots to start Will Williams' over, but then he plonks one straight into the hands of Anderson at mid-on to perish for 27.

  15. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Derbyshire 159-3 v Leicestershire 122

Wayne Madsen has been put down on 18 by Colin Ackermann at second slip off Chris Wright. It was low but straight at him. Eek.

Bit cheeky of me to mention but Ackermann did also drop Glamorgan's Sam Northeast last July when he was in double figures... he went on to score 410 not out.

He'll be hoping this one is not so costly...

  16. Smith time at New Roadpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcestershire 264 v Sussex 67-3

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at New Road

Steve Smith is indeed on his way to the middle...

And he leaves the first ball from Ben Gibbon with that trademark inside-out waft of the bat to see the over out.

It was June 2010 - and he was still a month away from his Test debut - when Smith first batted at Worcester, for the Pears in a T20 game, making 34 off 19 balls in a win over Yorkshire.

It was the first of four T20 matches in 11 days for Worcestershire, bowling his leggies and batting five alongside another future international, Moeen Ali.

He is batting at five in this one too, and there are a few extra in again today hoping to see him bat for a little longer - and perhaps more circumspectly.

  17. Postpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Notts 119-5 v Lancashire 214

Lancashire seam duo Tom Bailey and Will Williams have started with a couple of tidy overs and Notts are yet to add to their overnight score.

James Anderson is being kept in reserve for now - England's all-time leading wicket-taker is still awaiting his first scalp of the match, with figures of 0-31 from his seven overs so far.

    WICKET - Orr c Roderick b Gibbon 34published at 11:08 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcs 264 v Sussex 67-3

    Great start by Worcestershire.

Ali Orr follows Tom Alsop back to the dressing room after edging Ben Gibbon to the keeper.

That was an excellent delivery, just doing enough off the pitch to take the edge as Orr pushed forward.

  19. Postpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Essex 314 v Surrey 4-0

Simon Harmer bowled one over with the new ball last night, but unsurprisingly it is Jamie Porter into the attack at the start of play as Sam Cook's partner.

It's a tidy start with just three runs from his opening set.

WICKET - Alsop lbw Leach 13published at 11:03 British Summer Time 5 May 2023

    Worcs 264 v Sussex 65-2

The final ball of the opening over and Joe Leach removes Tom Alsop, who added two to his overnight 11 not out.

Cheteshwar Pujara is the new batter, with Mr Steve Smith due in next.
