  1. wicket

WICKET Brown c Yates b Rushworth 0published at 12:47 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Hants 229 & 29-5 v Warks 410-8 dec

What a spell this is from Chris Rushworth.

Ben Brown nibbles at one that leaves him off the pitch and Rob Yates takes the catch in front of his throat at first slip.

Hampshire were second before the start of this round of matches, and their remaining batters are going to have to produce something special to dig them out of this situation.

  2. wicket

WICKET Lawrence b Atkinson 28published at 12:43 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Essex 314 & 116-3 v Surrey 240

Dan Lawrence goes across his stumps and tries to flick it away but the ball from Gus Atkinson is too full and he is bowled behind his legs.

A death or glory cameo from the England batter and Essex are 190 ahead as Matt Critchley walks to the middle.

  3. wicket

WICKET Prest c Burgess b Rushworth 1published at 12:41 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Hants 229 & 27-4 v Warks 410-8 dec

Tom Prest is gone - the second Hampshire batter to fall to the Chris Rushworth-Michael Burgess partnership.

Rushworth now has 3-17 from six overs and Will Rhodes may struggle to force him to take a breather before lunch.

  4. wicket

WICKET Azad c&b Leach 4published at 12:41 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Somerset 412 v Northants 255 & 125-3

    Two for Jack Leach!

It's clever bowling, throwing it a bit wider when he spots Hassan Azad coming down the track.

Azad can only spoon a low catch back to the bowler, and he has to go.

    Derbys 350-7 dec v Leics 122 & 81-1

Spin at Derby as Mark Watt comes into the attack.

The left-armer sends one down from wide on the crease and Rishi Patel cuts it away for four runs. he moves to 43 not out.

  6. Postpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Worcs 264 & 89-3 v Sussex 373

It was hosing it down on Saturday at New Road, but Adam Hose is the man threatening to take centre stage today.

Hose has displayed attacking intent so far, driving Sean Hunt off the back foot for a couple of boundaries and he's now overtaken Azhar Ali with 22 not out to his partner's 21.

It's all helping to nudge Worcestershire out of the red - they are just 20 behind Sussex now with seven wickets in hand.

  7. Postpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Essex 314 & 103-2 v Surrey 240

You don't see that sort of shot very often from Nick Browne.

Gus Atkinson sends down a respectable delivery and the left-hander just belts it unceremoniously back past the bowler for four.

One of very few things done without ceremony this weekend.

  8. wicket

WICKET Middleton v Woakes 5published at 12:26 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Hants 229 & 26-3 v Warks 410-8 dec

A lot of horses had the bit between their teeth in London yesterday and the same could be said about the Warwickshire attack at the Ageas Bowl.

Three down now as Chris Woakes wins a leg-before decision against Fletcha Middleton with one that just leaves him slightly off the pitch as he tries to play to leg.

Another young player, Tom Prest, is his replacement.

  9. Postpublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Essex 314 & 91-2 v Surrey 240

Dan Lawrence continues to give orthodoxy a wide berth as he steps away and craves Gus Atkinson backward of point for four.

Essex lead by 165 and you would assume from the way Lawrence is batting that they are very keen to declare at some point and make a live game of this.

  10. ouch!

Postpublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Notts 249 v Lancs 214 & 278-6

The new ball is due in less than two overs, but the old one has dealt Steven Croft a painful blow.

The Lancashire batter tried to execute a pull shot against Steven Mullaney, missed and took a nasty whack around his midriff.

After a bit of writhing around on the Trent Bridge turf, it looks as though Croft will be fine to continue. He and Tom Hartley have done well this morning, adding 47 to extend their side's advantage to 243.

  11. wicket

WICKET Buckingham b Leach 17published at 12:22 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Somerset 412 v Northants 255 & 117-2

Jordan Buckingham runs at Jack Leach, but can't quite get to the pitch of the ball, and is bowled round his legs - definite turn there for the England tweaker.

The nightwatchman is gone, and Hassan Azad trots to the middle to continue his innings from yesterday, which was cut short by injury.

  12. 50 runs

for Adam Lythpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Yorks 71-0 - target 492

The Yorkshire captain drives down the ground for four, and moves past 50.

It comes up from 70 balls. Plenty more work to do though.

  13. wicket

WICKET Gubbins c Burgess b Rushworth 21published at 12:20 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Hants 229 & 26-2 v Warks 410-8 dec

Big wicket for Warwickshire as Chris Rushworth just finds enough assistance from the pitch to have Nick Gubbins caught behind.

The batter didn't do a lot wrong there, it was just a very good ball from the former Durham seamer.

Hampshire still 155 behind as James Vince comes to the crease.

  14. Postpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Somerset 412 v Northants 255 & 116-1

Jordan Buckingham continues to frustrate Somerset, keeping out the straight deliveries, and taking runs where he can.

He has 17, and Northants are just 41 runs behind now.

  15. Hampshire 'will have to bat well'published at 12:18 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Hants 229 & 26-1 v Warks 410-8 dec

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

Interesting decision by Warwickshire to bat on in their first innings this morning - it may yet prove to be a good one.

Conditions were overcast and the covers had been on for well over a day at the start and Mohammad Abbas got a 34-overs okld ball to move around.

The forecast is for the clouds to get higher as the day wears on.

Have Warwickshire made the right call? Hampshire will have to bat well to get out of this.

  16. 6 runs

Postpublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Yorks 66-0 - target 492

Michael Neser digs one in at Adam Lyth, but the one-time England opener is ready for it, and hooks high into the stand over backward square-leg.

    An imperious shot.

  17. 6 runs

Postpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Essex 314 & 76-2 v Surrey 240

    Well, well, well.

Dan Lawrence has only faced four deliveries but he starts a new over from Jordan Clark by stepping to leg to make room and lofting the all-rounder over mid-off for six.

A very confident shot for a man who only made two in the first innings.

  18. Postpublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Derbys 350-7 dec v Leics 122 & 59-1

Lewis Hill has taken time to get his eye in at Derby but three fours in an over from Luis Reece sees him post a 50 partnership with Rishi Patel.

A clip through mid-wicket, square drive and on-drive all find the boundary as Hill progresses to 22 not out, with Patel on 30.

  19. Yorkshire make solid startpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Yorkshire 106 & 49-0 v Glamorgan 245 & 352-4 dec

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

The sun is out at Headingley and Yorkshire have started well in their battle to survive the day with few alarms in the opening stages.

Surprisingly, Glamorgan did not open with first innings destroyer Michael Neser, who came on as first change for Timm van der Gugten at the Kirkstall Lane end.

Left-arm seamer Jamie McIlroy, the other opening bowler, was tidy and beat the outside edge occasionally without causing real dramas.

Adam Lyth has struck the odd firm boundary while his young partner Finlay Bean has been more circumspect as Yorkshire showed every sign of avoiding their supporters’ gloomy predictions.

There could hardly be a more appropriate weekend to have Southern Vipers batter Emily Windsor on BBC Radio Solent commentary duty.

And she sees Chris Woakes induce a false shot from Nick Gubbins which finds a gap in the cordon and runs away for four.
