    Notts 249 v Lancs 214 & 263-6

Notts' hopes were raised by those two early wickets this morning, but they've been frustrated so far by Steven Croft and Tom Hartley, who are 30 and 19 not out respectively.

Stuart Broad has been pounding in to try and break what's turning into a very useful partnership, but without any success so far. Lancashire are 228 in front with four wickets standing.

    Derbys 350-7 dec v Leics 122 & 41-1

Henry Brookes is now into the attack for Derbyshire following his six-wicket haul in the first innings. His first couple of overs have cost him five runs, but he has tightened things up a bit for the home side.

    Somerset 412 v Northants 255 & 104-1

The Northants number three tucks Peter Siddle into the leg-side for a couple, which takes him past 50.

He's batted very nicely indeed - he'll want to go big now.

  4. Postpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Somerset 412 v Northants 255 & 97-1

A huge shout for caught behind from Peter Siddle and Somerset, as Sam Whiteman looks to turn Peter Siddle to leg.

It's a wonderful, tumbling take down the leg-side by wicket-keeper James Rew, but Whiteman looks unperturbed, and the umpire shakes his head.

Ben Foakes' mum Fiona rang the bell to mark the start of play at Chelmsford this morning and she has just seen her son take an easy catch to send Tom Westley on his way as Jordan Clark finds a touch of seam movement. Essex lead by 136.

Felix Organ in in a bit of a trough with the bat at the moment and departs second ball as Chris Rushworth strikes in his opening over following Warwickshire's declaration.

Nick Gubbins comes out to join Fletcha Middleton and drives his first ball faced away for four.

    Yorks 39-0 - target 492

Michael Neser is into the attack for the first time today, but there's none of the prodigious swing on offer that tore through Yorkshire on day two.

Adam Lyth peels off another gorgeous cover drive that flies to the boundary - he looks in fine touch this morning.

    Essex 314 & 60-1 v Surrey 240

They may have lost Alastair Cook to the second ball of the day, but Essex are looking fairly comfortable at the moment following yesterday's washout. A couple of singles from the latest over and Tom Westley is 23 not out, with Nick Browne on 22.

Ollie Robinson has bowled beautifully again this morning, beating the bat several times, and now he has his third wicket - and 10 in the match.

Jack Haynes is the man who completes the set for the England seamer, swishing outside off stump and Oli Carter snaps him up for seven.

Robinson's 10-wicket match haul is the seventh of his first-class career. Sussex would love a few more from him today as they push for victory at New Road, with the home side still 55 behind.

    Derbys 350-7 dec v Leics 122 & 34-1

Glorious shot by Rishi Patel - nothing remotely 'sloggy' about that. He takes one step forwards and lifts Luis Reece over mid-wicket for six. Well executed, minimum fuss, Patel is 28 not out.

By contrast, partner Lewis Hill has one run to his name from 18 balls faced so far.

    Somerset 412 v Northants 255 & 88-1

Jack Leach is into the attack at Taunton, as Somerset turn to spin in their search for the first wicket of the day.

Sam Whiteman dances down the track to the second ball of the over, and handsomely flicks Leach for six over midwicket.

Lovely shot - it takes Whiteman to 40.

    Derbys 350-7 dec v Leics 122 & 23-1

If Derbyshire are to go on and win this match, they'll have to bowl a bit better than that.

Sam Conners is guilty of a full toss outside off stump and Rishi Patel thumps it away to the point boundary - exactly what it deserved.

He's clearly not in the mood to do a lot of running, it's the right-hander's fourth four in his 18 not out.

    Worcs 264 & 51-2 v Sussex 373

Interesting duel at the moment between Azhar Ali, who's digging in grimly for Worcestershire, and Ollie Robinson.

Robinson is getting some pace and bounce off the surface but hasn't been able to find a way through Azhar's defences so far, although he did offer a half-chance with a flick just past midwicket off Fynn Hudson-Prentice.

Worcestershire have added just 17 in the first 10 overs this morning and still trail by 58.

    Hants 229 v Warks 410-8 dec

Michael Burgess is caught behind off a thin edge after trying to drive and Warwickshire skipper Will Rhodes decides that a 181-run lead will do.

Three wickets this morning for Mo Abbas, whose final figures are 4-55.

Game on at the Ageas Bowl despite yesterday's washout.

    Somerset 412 v Northants 255 & 82-1

Lewis Gregory and Craig Overton continue to probe away, swinging and seaming the ball in these favourable bowling conditions, but Sam Whiteman and Jordan Buckingham have been equal to the task so far.

Buckingham has looked far from comfortable, but he's still there and that's all that matters.

What total do Warwickshire want to reach before declaring?

They certainly aren't hanging about and Danny Briggs slams Ian Holland over mid-off to end an over which costs the all-rounder 15 runs.

Not sure why Holland is bowling in this situation, but no doubt James Vince has his reasons.

Michael Burgess goes right across his stumps and flips Ian Holland away fine for four runs.

    Notts 249 v Lancs 214 & 242-6

Bright start by Tom Hartley, who drives through the covers for two boundaries off Lyndon James and lifts the Lancashire lead above 200.

The experienced Steven Croft is still there at the other end, with 21 to his name. You feel the visitors will need him to hang around for a while yet with the Notts seamers scenting further success.

Adam Lyth gets a juicy half-volley from Jamie McIlroy, and the Yorkshire skipper doesn't need a second invitation. He just leans on it and watches it race to the cover boundary.

He moves on to 16. Finlay Bean has 5.
