    Derbys 350-7 dec v Leics 122 & 14-1

Having already pulled a short one from Zak Chappell for four with some authority, Rishi Patel starts his next over with an even better boundary pushed back past the stumps at the bowler's end. Exquisite timing there, and he is nine not out.

Remember, Leicestershire need to score 228 to make Derbyshire bat again or to avoid an innings defeat, whichever you prefer.

  2. Postpublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Essex 314 & 41-1 v Surrey 240

Too much width from Kemar Roach and Tom Westley cracks it away square for the second boundary of his innings. He is 13 not out, one fewer than partner Nick Browne.

    Hants 229 v Warks 387-7

Warwickshire are clearly minded to try and attack but Mohammad Abbas is a canny customer and picks up his second wicket of the morning as Chris Woakes drills a catch to Liam Dawson at mid-off.

  4. Postpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Hants 229 v Warks 386-6

Michael Burgess takes a couple of steps down the pitch and flicks the first ball of a new Mohammad Abbas over away for four. He is now 77 not out and the lead is 157.

  5. wicket

WICKET De Grandhomme b Fletcher 4published at 11:16 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Notts 249 v Lancs 214 & 231-6

    Well, this could get interesting...

Lancashire are six down now and Luke Fletcher has his second of the innings, bringing one back to clip the top of off as Colin de Grandhomme stands motionless.

Tom Hartley has emerged to join Steven Croft at the crease with the visitors 196 ahead.

  6. Postpublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Yorks 4-0 - target 492

It's been a fairly serene start for Yorkshire openers Adam Lyth and Finlay Bean, playing out the first four overs with minimal fuss.

How long will it be until Glamorgan turn to Michael Neser?

  7. wicket

WICKET Budinger c Guest b Chappell 1published at 11:15 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Derbys 350-7 dec v Leics 122 & 5-1

    Derbyshire have the breakthrough.

Sol Budinger tries to square cut a delivery which bounces more than he expected and Brooke Guest collects the top edge behind the stumps.

First wicket of the game for Zak Chappell, who took 0-32 in his former club's first innings.

  8. wicket

WICKET Pollock c Smith b Robinson 17published at 11:13 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Worcs 264 & 36-2 v Sussex 373

Steve Smith is in among the action straight away at New Road, where play has finally resumed after yesterday's washout.

The Australian snaps up a smart catch at second slip for the first wicket of the day - Ollie Robinson finding the edge of Ed Pollock's bat and the left-hander goes for 17.

Worcestershire still need 73 to make Sussex bat again...

  9. wicket

WICKET Barnard c Brown b Abbas 95published at 11:11 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Hants 229 v Warks 375-6

No century for Ed Barnard. A beautiful leg-cutter from Mohammad Abbas finds the edge and that's a straightforward catch for keeper Ben Brown.

The Warwickshire all-rounder, who was 91 not out at the end of day two, faced 147 balls and hit a six and seven fours. He put on 125 with Michael Burgess, who has now been joined by Chris Woakes.

Easy runs for Tom Westley, who flicks a leg-stump half-volley from Kemar Roach to fine leg for four. The Essex lead is 105, but you would think a draw is the most likely result here. Or is it?

  11. Postpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Derbys 350-7 dec v Leics 122 & 1-0

Zak Chappell sends down a maiden to Rishi Patel before Sol Budinger collects a single off Sam Conners to get the ball rolling - in all senses - for Leicestershire.

  12. Postpublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Somerset 412 v Northants 255 & 66-1

Sam Whiteman plays out a maiden from Lewis Gregory, as the final day's play gets under way at a cloudy Taunton.

Nightwatchman Jordan Buckingham then plays and misses twice at Craig Overton outside off-stump.

    It's nipping about.

  13. Postpublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Hants 229 v Warks 371-5

Ed Barnard collects two off Mohammad Abbas and now needs just seven more to complete his first Warwickshire century.

Ian Holland will bowl from the other end and Michael Burgess puts his second delivery away for four to long leg. He is 65 not out.

  14. wicket

    Bell c Duckett b James 1published at 11:02 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Notts 249 v Lancs 214 & 220-5

Perfect start for Notts as they bid to run through this Lancashire batting line-up!

Lyndon James' second ball of the morning bamboozles George Bell and the ball flies off the outside edge to second slip, where Ben Duckett leaps to his right to take the catch.

Five wickets down, with the lead 185 as Colin de Grandhomme makes his way to the middle.

  15. wicket

    WICKET A Cook b Roach 14published at 11:01 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Essex 314 & 34-1 v Surrey 240

What a start to the day at Chelmsford.

Kemar Roach had two balls to bowl to complete the over he was in the middle of on Friday and the second of them sends Alastair Cook on his way without addition.

Right through the gate as Cook drives and the off stump loses its moorings.

  16. Postpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Hants 229 v Warks 364-5

Mohammad Abbas has the ball to start things off at the Ages Bowl - not the easiest bowler to score quickly off.

How will Warwickshire approach things this morning?

  17. Postpublished at 10:59 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

No play possible at three grounds yesterday - but it looks like we are going to have a prompt start at all seven today. Good news.

  18. Patient Barnard has Bears century in sightspublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Hampshire 229 v Warwickshire 364-5

    Ed BarnardImage source, Getty Images

Ed Barnard has had a long time to contemplate the prospect of his first Warwickshire century but he will need to press on, weather permitting, if they are to have a chance of forcing a win on the final day.

No play was possible on day three at the Ageas Bowl and Barnard - who made five hundreds for former club Worcestershire - is set to resume on 91 not out, with his side 135 in front.

If they can add at least 100 to that, it will then be up to their experienced attack to try and work their way through the home side's batting line-up.

  20. Bairstow may have key role for Tykespublished at 10:47 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Yorkshire 106 v Glamorgan 245 & 352-4 dec

    Jonny BairstowImage source, Rex Features

Jonny Bairstow was the embodiment of Bazball in 2022 when his brilliant batting lit up English cricket.

Weather permitting, though, he may have a very different job to do after Yorkshire were set a remote target of 492 by Glamorgan.

Rain spared them an awkward final session on day three, but the Welsh county have their sights firmly fixed on a first win of the season following three draws.

Yorkshire all-rounder Jordan Thompson admitted: "If they bowl well like they did the other day it’s going to be a tough one to score quickly.”
