I don't think Stokes will mind that. The drive is the shot you want the batters to be playing.
Mark Adair frustrates Stuart Broad with some old-fashioned defence, before dabbing a four down to third man from the final ball.
England's patience is being tested here.
Josh Tongue floors Mark Adair with a ripper of a bouncer, which Ben Stokes applauds enthusiastically.
Can England sneak another wicket before tea? I kind of thought we'd see England batting by now.
Harry Brook takes a bit of time to apply some lip balm in the field, so that tells you all you need to know about the pace of play right now.
Still, it's always important to moisturise. Hopefully it's SPF 50, setting a good example.
Josh Tongue persists with the short ball but with most of them going down the leg side and easily left alone, it's not particularly effective yet.
It's pretty slow progress at the moment. I'm sure Ben Stokes has got some ideas to spice things up a little.
As is tradition, here's our first look at the umpires fitting the ball through the measuring thingy with ridiculous ease after England ask them to have a look at it.
A maiden from Potts.
Here's how Matthew Potts took his first wicket.
Josh Tongue persists with his short-ball tactic but Campher takes it on, getting four runs off the glove down to fine leg, followed by two more to the same area.
It seems to work from the final ball, as England think he's edged one behind, but there's no review - and replays show that was the right call.
The short stuff has got Jonny Bairstow leaping and launching himself all over the place, but in fairness, he makes it look rather graceful.
Mark Adair survives his three deliveries from Potts.
Curtis Campher is pretty much the last man standing for Ireland here. He has 20 from 43 balls.

That is brilliant captaincy because the man out was definitely in Andy McBrine's mind.
The ball wasn't there to drive.
McBrine c Bairstow b Potts 19 (Ire 142-7)
And there's his reward!
Andy McBrine departs for a useful 19 as he nicks a full delivery behind to Bairstow.
Potts is delighted, fist bumping and some rather aggressive high-fives with his team-mates. A deserved wicket.
He survives on umpire's call. Potts shakes his head in frustration, which is understandable. He's bowled beautifully.

Height?
Another nip-backer clatters into Andy McBrine's pads, there's a stifled appeal but that's enough to prompt Ben Stokes into a review.
I think it's too high.

Sir Alastair seems to be 'winning the vote', but surely you've got to be asking him about the huge gap between bat and ball?
Matt from Cambridge
More than 4,500 thumbs down on Alastair Cook's lbw now.
I'm sure he's thrilled with the support from you all.
Outside edge and... four.
It's wide from Josh Tongue so Curtis Campher has a bit of a free hit, and the ball flies down to the third man boundary.
Frustrating runs for England.

Matthew Potts is just chasing a wicket here. He hasn't really got the pace to go short on this wicket. He should just stick to the top of off stump.
Matthew Potts tests McBrine out with a bit of short stuff, but the batter is up to the challenge, pulling firmly for four valuable runs.
A handy little partnership building here for the Irish.
