    Glamorgan 123 & 737 v Sussex 481

Steve Smith finishes the match with a second wicket - and it's his fellow Australian, Michael Neser, who's the victim.

Neser took a big swing, missed and saw the bails fly off.

All of which means that - absurd though this may seem - Sussex will have to come out again to face one over in their second innings before the clock ticks around to 5pm and the draw is confirmed.

Joe Clarke makes his intentions clear. He steps down the pitch and whips Simon Harmer past mid-on for his second boundary.

The right-hander repeats the stroke two balls later, but this time directs it to the off-side of the wicket.

Hesitation by the two Notts batters, but Matthew Montgomery is safely through for a single.

Joe Clarke is off the mark with a cover drive for four. Six overs completed now by Sam Cook. How many more will Tom Westley give him in this spell?

Essex call up Simon Harmer. He'll enjoy this, with the two Notts batters under a bit of pressure to get the scoreboard moving.

Three runs from it. Notts need 214 from 29 overs.

Joe Clarke safely negotiates the final two balls of Sam Cook's over.

He isn't a player that likes to be tied down, can he supply a few extra revs for the Notts engine?

    Glamorgan 123 & 734-9 v Sussex 481

Michael Neser might still have designs on overtaking his personal first-class best of 136 - he needs 17 more but he isn't likely to get more than a handful of overs to do it.

As it happens, Jamie McIlroy is already on his first-class career best - he's made 11 not out in their unbroken partnership of 66.

Both openers gone now. At this rate, the run-chase isn't even going to get started.

Ben Slater is beaten by one which cuts back and keeps a little low and is bowled. Sam Cook has 2-9 at the moment.

Looks like we're in for an interesting final session at Trent Bridge. How do you see this one going, Notts and Essex followers?

A couple of nice drives from Matthew Montgomery off Jamie Porter, but he can't pierce the Essex field. Back to back maidens.

Another over ticks by. It's a maiden by Sam Cook.

Notts still have 32 to reach this target but someone is going to have to look to assert himself fairly soon.

Jamie Porter is offering Notts absolutely nothing to hit - Ben Slater takes a single to deny him a second maiden, but that's 0-2 from three for the Essex paceman.

"It's a pretty gutsy call by Essex. It [the pitch] is a road and Notts bat pretty deep, so you'd back them to win from here."

Good ball from Sam Cook, which just offers to leave Haseeb Hameed off the pitch and he edges a comfortable catch to Adam Rossington.

Matthew Montgomery walks out at number three following his 177 in the Notts first innings. He should be seeing it ok.

Testing over from Jamie Porter to Ben Slater. It's a maiden.

Notts can afford to take a look for a few overs - but not too many.

    Glamorgan 123 & 730-9 v Sussex 481

Yes, Glamorgan are still batting. As they have been for two full days!

Ali Orr has just sent down an over that included some gentle medium pace lob-ups and the players go off for a cuppa.

Michael Neser is 116 not out, Jamie McIlroy is 11 and the visitors lead by 362 - for what it's worth. Expect handshakes around 5pm.

Given that they declared at tea, you wonder who Essex see as the bowlers most likely to take wickets for them.

On a worn fourth-day pitch, you'd say that Simon Harmer would be a major threat, but this one is pretty flat.

A couple of singles for Notts from Sam Cook's second over.

Tidy over from Jamie Porter. Just a leg bye and a single added to the Notts total. Remember, they needed a rate of 5.61 at the start of this chase.

    Notts 5-0 - target 219

Ben Slater is off the mark with a single and Haseeb Hameed whips Sam Cook's final ball to mid-wicket for four. Another 214 needed by Notts.

    Glamorgan 123 & 719-9 v Sussex 481

Ali Orr joins Tom Alsop to have a bowl - there's a sentence you wouldn't often read - and concedes six from his first over.

Michael Neser then takes a single off Alsop to propel Glamorgan to the second highest first-class total in their history - exceeding their 718-3 against Sussex 23 years ago.

The only total that still surmounts this one is their 795-5 declared at Leicester last year, but surely handshakes will have taken place before we get near that kind of territory.

Ben Slater and Haseeb Hameed are out in the middle.

Sam Cook will bowl the opening over.

Which way is this going to go?
