    Kent 301 & 119-1 v Surrey 145

Apart from that single over from Will Jacks just before tea, this is our first sighting of spin in Kent's second innings.

Dan Moriarty finally gets a bowl in the 32nd over and concedes just a single, with Kent now in front by 275.

Tawanda Muyeye is 67 not out, with Daniel Bell-Drummond on 27.

Loser92: What possessed Essex not to enforce the follow on? Now they’ve lost one of their openers with very few runs on the board.

  3. Close of play at Trent Bridgepublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Notts 82-5 v Warks 571-9d

A thunderstorm did indeed find its way to Trent Bridge so no further play is possible.

    A marvellous day for Warwickshire.

They took their overnight 361-5 to a giant 571-9 before pulling out an hour after lunch.

Michael Burgess made an unbeaten 77 either side of lunch but Hasan Ali provided the fireworks, cracking 54 in 36 balls with five sixes.

Notts were steady at 51-0 in reply but then lost 4-7!

A fifth wicket before the close leaves them staring at a follow-on and gargantuan deficit unless they can find some serious fight tomorrow.

  4. Postpublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Lancs 374 v Hants 142 & 79-1

Hampshire have settled well at Southport with Fletcha Middleton and Nick Gubbins both getting to 28.

But the visitors still trail by 153.

16 overs left in the day - can Lancashire find a way through before the close?

Tom Hartley should expect some help for his left-arm spin and has sent down three probing overs so far.

  5. wicket

WICKET Browne lbw b Overton 0published at 17:46 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Essex 462-9 dec & 5-1 v Somerset 167

Can't imagine Nick Browne will be too overjoyed about the Essex decision to bat again tonight.

The opener's gone for a duck in the second over, leg before to one that nipped back from Craig Overton.

Tom Westley makes his way to the middle with 32 balls left tonight and Essex ahead by exactly 300.

  6. wicket

    WICKET Bashir c A Cook b S Cook 4published at 17:30 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Essex 462-9 dec v Somerset 167

It took them a while, but Essex have finally ended Somerset's resistance thanks to the Cooks - Sam persuading last man Shoaib Bashir to prod at one outside off stump and Alastair safely clasping the catch at first slip.

Sean Dickson is left stranded on 82 not out, batting all the way through - but he won't have to go and do it again tonight.

Surprisingly, Essex have declined to enforce the follow-on and they will face seven overs tonight with a lead of 295.

Simon Harmer finishes with a season's best of 5-64, with Jamie Porter taking 3-38.

    Kent 301 & 89-1 v Surrey 145

Tawanda Muyeye (Kent)Image source, Rex Features

Tawanda Muyeye has his first County Championship half-century for the season and he gets there in style, punching Sean Abbott off the back foot for four.

That's the sixth of Muyeye's boundaries and he brings up his 50 from 90 balls. Kent now have an overall lead of 245.

  8. 15th first-class century for Bedinghampublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Durham 363-5 v Glamorgan 390

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Durham batter David Bedingham has followed Ollie Robinson in reaching a century on day two in Chester-le-Street.

Robinson got there in 93 balls and was eventually out for 102, stumped down the legside by Chris Cooke off Andy Gorvin.

His partnership with Bedingham was worth 171, slightly eclipsing the 168 put on by Glamorgan's Sam Northeast and Kiran Carlson yesterday.

In contrast to Robinson, Bedingham's century was a more sedate 176 balls. It was his 15th in first-class cricket and seventh for Durham. He's also taken Durham to a third batting point and has so far added 73 runs with Graham Clark, who has 37.

  9. Postpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Essex 462-9 dec v Somerset 161-9

Well, if Essex expected to knock over this last Somerset wicket quickly, they were mistaken.

Teenage debutant Shoaib Bashir has looked accomplished for a no 11 and he's chewed up 26 balls so far in making three during almost half an hour.

Sean Dickson is still carrying his bat for 77 at the other end but, with all that said, you'd fancy Somerset to be batting again before stumps.

  10. Elsewhere in Division Twopublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

Worcestershire are now in complete control against Sussex at Hove. Opener Jake Libby has just brought up his 150 with his side on 303-3. They trail by just 45.

Durham's David Bedingham now has his century against Glamorgan. The hosts are 347-5 and 43 behind.

They've been off for a little while at Bristol with Gloucestershire on 316-8 against Leicestershire when the heavens opened.

  11. 100 runs

for Haiderpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Derbyshire 111 & 201-4 v Yorkshire 353

This is a brilliant fightback by Derbyshire and it's being led by Pakistan batter Haider Ali.

The 22-year-old brings up his fourth first-class century at Chesterfield and it could well be his most important.

The deficit is down to 41 but rain is approaching Queen's Park.

  12. Postpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Kent 301 & 70-1 v Surrey 145

All a bit tame for now at Canterbury, where Kent are making steady progress as they extend that first-innings lead of 156 against Surrey.

Tawanda Muyeye has looked in good nick for his 38 not out, with Daniel Bell-Drummond on nine at the other end.

Plenty could change of course - we have a scheduled 35 overs yet to be bowled today.

  13. Bad light at Trent Bridgepublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Notts 82-5 v Warks 571-9d

There are isolated thunderstorms all over the UK today and one may be heading the way of Trent Bridge.

It's got dark enough for the umpires to take them off.

    22 overs are still scheduled.

  14. Postpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Notts 77-5 v Warks 571-9d

Before those two consecutive sixes from Notts skipper Steven Mullaney, Chris Rushworth had only gone for 10 runs in 10 overs!

23 overs to come and Warks can smell the follow-on already.

  15. for Simon Harmerpublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Essex 462-9 dec v Somerset 154-9

Simon Harmer (Essex)Image source, Rex Features

Two in two for Simon Harmer - and five overall - as Matt Henry attempts a horrible-looking shot and skies it to give the Essex spinner his second caught and bowled of the day.

Somerset are nine down and Sean Dickson's in danger of being left high and dry here.

  16. wicket

WICKET Davey c Browne b Harmer 7published at 16:47 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Essex 462-9 dec v Somerset 154-8

No controversy about this one, although it reads the same on the scorecard as Craig Overton's dismissal.

Simon Harmer collects his fourth wicket and this is a straightforward bat-pad catch, looping up to short leg as Josh Davey departs.

  17. wicket

    WICKET James c Burgess b Hannon-Dalby 5published at 16:47 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Notts 74-5 v Warks 571-9d

Notts slip further into the mire.

Steven Mullaney had got off the mark with a pulled six into the Fox Road Stand and added another next ball - taking on two men in the deep.

But he's now lost Lyndon James at the other end.

Ollie Hannon-Dalby is full in the channel just outside off, James is forward feeling for it a fraction and gets a healthy edge behind.

  18. wicket

WICKET Weatherley c Hartley b Bailey 12published at 16:35 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Lancs 374 v Hants 142 & 24-1

    Breakthrough for Lancashire!

Full ball outside off from Tom Bailey, Joe Weatherley props forward to defend and pokes a catch low to third slip.

Could have been left well alone.

  19. wicket

WICKET Compton c Atkinson b Clark 17published at 16:32 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Kent 301 & 45-1 v Surrey 145

Well, that drop before tea didn't prove too costly for Surrey - in the second over after the interval they've picked up the wicket of Ben Compton after all.

Compton seemed to misjudge the pace of a short delivery from Jordan Clark and prodded it tamely out on the off side to give Gus Atkinson a routine catch.

Daniel Bell-Drummond comes to the crease, with Kent already more than 200 ahead.

  20. wicket

WICKET Overton c Browne b Harmer 23published at 16:28 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Essex 462-9 dec v Somerset 142-7

Simon Harmer (Essex)Image source, Rex Features

If this was a Test match, we'd still be watching replays of the incident on loop.

Craig Overton pulls Simon Harmer off the back foot, the ball strikes Nick Browne at short leg and balloons up, with the fielder reacting quickly to grab the loose ball.

Overton stands his ground as the umpires confer on whether the ball hit Browne's foot on the full - but then the finger goes up and he has to trudge off. First impression is that Overton hasn't had the rub of the green here...
