Another long day of red-ball cricket is over.

A still unfinished 271-run symphony from Daniel Bell-Drummond, the swashubuckling 130-run Surrey last-wicket stand, a third Yorkshire centurion and a Derbyshire onslaught at Worcester . . . these have been among the highlights today,

Join us back here for more of the same at about 10:40 tomorrow.

    Lancashire 274 & 113-4, Surrey 360

Nightwatchman Will Williams sneaks a single off the last ball - and Lancashire close with a slender 27-run lead over Surrey.

The 130-run last-wicket stand betwen Aussies Sean Abbott and Dan Worrall still looks like being the key factor in this game as Surrey hone in on a seventh straight Championship win at The Oval.

WICKET - Vilas lbw b Clark 9published at 18:38 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Lancashire 274 and 112-4, Surrey 360

    The answer is No!

    Dane Vilas is gone.

Only after a long deliberation by umpire Michael Gough but finally he raises his finger,.And Jordan Clark, after four first-innings wickets against his old club, has done it again.

Out comes nightwatchman Will Williams, with 4.4 overs to face, along with Daryl Mitchell on 17..

  7. Five overs left at The Ovalpublished at 18:34 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Lancashire 274 and 112-3, Surrey 360

Just five overs left to be bowled at The Oval.

So much for the early dart mooted earlier. The light has improved and it is actually the nicest part of the day.

Can Dane Vilas and Daryl Mitchell see this one out tonight without any further damage?

  8. 100 runs

North there to witness Ackermann tonpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Durham 517-6 dec, Leicestershire 331-4

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Leicestershire centurion Colin Ackermann will join Durham next season, along with team-mate Callum Parkinson.

The man who brokered the deal is Durham director of cricket Marcus North. The former Australian batsman, who is here today, will certainly have been impressed by Ackermann's innings as he helped to hold things together for The Foxes.

He put on 117 for the fourth wicket with Peter Handscomb, who made 55 and has so far added 83 for the fifth wicket with Wiaan Mulder.

Callum Parkinson's twin brother Matt is playing for Durham. He's on loan for a couple of matches from Lancashire and the England leggie has taken two of the wickets to fall. Three of the four have fallen to spin.

The visitors believe that will be the key weapon in trying to win this game. But, at the moment, it looks like a very good batting track and there still appear to be many more runs to be made.

  9. Close of play at Southamptonpublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Hampshire 419 v Middlesex 142-8

Centuries for Nick Gubbins (120) and Liam Dawson (141) helped Hampshire post an imposing 419 earlier in the day, though Josh De Caires improved his career bowling average of 160 for his single wicket by claiming an incredible 7-144.

Dawson looks destined to better that, and maybe even his own first-class best of 7-51, with 6-38 so far, helping reduce the visitors to 88-7, but ironically the late Middlesex resistance is being led by De Caires, showing grit worthy of his dad, Michael Atherton.

They'll need plenty of it tomorrow, trailing as they do by 277.

  10. Close of play at Chelmsfordpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 158 and 74-1 (following on)

Rob Yates and Will Rhodes have done what they needed to do and survived to the close but Essex remain very much in the box seat.

After being dismissed for 457, the hosts skittled the visitors for 158 in less than 51 overs and then enforced the follow-on.

Rhodes (31) and Yates (27) have dug in well, but Warwickshire face a monumental turn of events to get anything out of this game.

  11. Close of play at Tauntonpublished at 18:14 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Somerset 163 & 268-4 v Nottinghamshire 186

James Rew and George Bartlett navigate Brett Hutton's final over of the day without alarm and that's stumps.

It caps a great day for Somerset who close 245 ahead with six second-innings wicket intact.

And a chastening one for Notts who began day two just 19 runs behind with six first innings wickets in hand, only for Matt Henry to skittle them and restrict their lead to just 23.

Bartlett (109 not out) and Tom Lammonby (73) then took advantage of some sloppy play in the field to pile on the runs and capitalise on the bowlers’ good work.

The new Kookaburra will be due in one over’s time in the morning and much will hinge on that as far as Nottinghamshire hopes are concerned.

  12. wicket

    WICKET Roland-Jones c Dawson b Organ 26published at 18:13 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Hampshire 419 v Middlesex 136-8

Josh De Caires and Toby Roland-Jones have produced a fine partnership of 46 across the past 10 overs but Toby Roland-Jones has picked out Liam Dawson off the bowling of spinner Felix Organ to end it.

Tom Helm joins De Caires to try and close the gap further. Still four overs to come tonight.

  13. 10 overs left at The Ovalpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

  14. Close of play at Northamptonpublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Northants 237 v Kent 550-5

Kent began the day on 110-1, Daniel Bell-Drummond began the day on 48*... Kent close the day on 550-5, Bell-Drummond is unbeaten on 271 at stumps.

Tawanda Muyeye turned his overnight 58 into a maiden first class century before departing for 179 from 205 balls after a stand of 318 with Bell-Drummond.

His score takes him past Kent legends Rob Key and Frank Woolley in the record books. It's the sixth highest first class score ever made for Kent - four shy of his coach Matt Walker's 275.

He gets a warm reception as he walks off for a well-earned break.

Kent lead by 313 with two days remaining.

for George Bartlettpublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Somerset 163 & 258-4 v Nottinghamshire 186

    And there it is!

George Bartlett launches Matt Carter for a six and has navigated the nervous nineties in some style to secure a second Championship ton of the season.

Mixing a textbook blend of caution and attacking strokes, Bartlett gets to an eighth career first-class century off 203 balls.

He came in after lunch with Somerset wobbling on 43-2 and has helped put Somerset in a commanding position late on day two.

The lead is now 235 and there’s 3.4 overs remaining today.

  16. 250 runs

George Bartlett (98) is edging closer to his ton with four overs left today.

    Hampshire 419 v Middlesex 107-7

Take the small wins when they come...

The deficit is down to 312 but Ben Brown has spurned a tough chance to stump Toby Roland-Jones who had come down the pitch to Liam Dawson, only for the ball to flick off his pad.

  18. Postpublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Northants 237 v Kent 538-5

Daniel Bell-Drummond has not only worn the D and - symbols off my keyboard today, he has also taken Kent's lead past 300.

    Four overs to come today.

  19. 50 runs

up for Warwickshirepublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 158 and 53-1 (following on)

Will Rhodes clips Jamie Porter for a one-bounce four to bring up the Bears fifty.

This is a decent recovery from Rhodes (20) and Rob Yates (21) after the early loss of Alex Davies.

But Warwicks remain 246 in arrears.

    WICKET - Wells c Latham b Abbott 30published at 17:46 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Lancashire 274 & 84-3, Surrey 360

Another one gone. At the same score!

Luke Wells slashes hard and Tom Latham takes a stunning two-handed catch at second slip.

The game truly swings back Surrey sway again.

The home bowlers have their tails up, with two new batters to go at, Dane Vilas and Daryl Mitchell.

They potentially still have 15 and a half overs left to face tonight.
