  1. wicket

WICKET Bess c Critchley b Harmer 7published at 15:38 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 128-7

Simon Harmer takes his third wicket and the Bears lose another.

Harmer gets one to bounce and take a little turn and Dom Bess obligingly guides it into the hands of Matt Critchley at leg slip.

Hasan Ali arrives at the crease.

  2. 'Dawson is making his case'published at 15:33 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Hampshire 419 v Middlesex 39-3

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

A double wicket maiden in Liam Dawson’s first over!

Many had him in their Ashes squad as a like-for-like replacement for the injured Jack Leach. But that was about as far as it got.

In this game he’s already scored a hundred and added wickets very quickly.

Let’s hope Moeen Ali, and maybe his understudy Rehan Ahmed (if he plays), are up to it, because Dawson is presenting a good case for a return to Test cricket.

  3. Postpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Northants 237 v Kent 375-3

The new ball has slowed proceedings at Wantage Road. Kent have moved within 25 runs of another bonus point with 90 overs of their innings gone.

Daniel Bell-Drummond remains there on 162 from 273 deliveries and Jack Leaning on a rather more circumspect six after facing 38 balls.

  4. Tea at The Ovalpublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Lancashire 274, Surrey 360

That wicket has prompted tea to be taken at The Oval.

Lancashire opening pair Keaton Jennings and Luke Wells will resume in just under 20 minutes time facing an 86-run deficit.

  5. wicket

WICKET Holden lbw b Dawson 0published at 15:26 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Hampshire 419 v Middlesex 31-3

That's out. Max Holden tries to tickle it off his pads, moving across and playing across the line, but he's missed the ball and that's an easy decision.

We know what to do with a hard Kooka - give it to Liam Dawson, obviously. Double-wicket maiden and that's 8-3 in the last few overs.

John Simpson has been promoted up the order, perhaps the visitors reckon he might deal with Dawson better than Ryan Higgins. No reason why Dawson doesn't stay on for a long spell now.

  6. wicket

WICKET - Worrall run out (Bohannon) 51published at 15:25 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Lancashire 274, Surrey 360

Finally, the torture is over for Lancashire.

It was always likely to take a mistake to break this partnership the way this pair were going - and Dan Worrall makes it.

He is run out for 51 by a great throw from Josh Bohannon and take by Tom Bailey, leaving Sean Abbott high and dry on 87.

The stand was worth 130 in the end. How mentally bruising will that prove for the Red Rose?

  7. wicket

WICKET Malan lbw b Dawsonpublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Hampshire 419 v Middlesex 31-2

We've had 11 overs and James Vince has seen enough, Liam Dawson is thrown the ball. We've got a short leg in there, he's flighted the first couple in there nicely... and Pieter Malan has gone to the third ball... they knew. Celebrappeals everywhere. The left armer angled that in beautifully and Malan has to go.

Max Holden joins Sam Robson who is on 20.

  8. wicket

WICKET Burgess b Harmer 7published at 15:22 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 120-6

Things are unravelling quickly for Warwickshire.

Michael Burgess heaves Simon Harmer (2-44) for a mighty six, but the South African spinner soon gets his revenge.

Three balls later he gets one to spin back in through the gate and nick the off bail. Lovely bowling.

A decision over the follow on may need to be made soon.

  9. Somerset lead passes 100published at 15:18 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Somerset 163 & 131-2 v Nottinghamshire 186

Jake Ball's mood won't have improved after that over.

George Bartlett hooks a short ball behind his head for a four which takes the Somerset lead to a more than handy 100 with eight wickets in hand.

Is batting getting easier on this pitch?

  10. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Somerset 163 & 122-2 v Nottinghamshire 186

    It's Tom Lammonby's lucky day.

Having been dropped by Brett Hutton on six, he offers more slips catch practice on 52.

The ball flies at a comfortable height into Matt Carter's hands at second slip but then somehow pops out again.

Both drops have come off Jake Ball's bowling and the paceman is rightly fuming.

Somerset were superb in the field but Notts have been sloppy and the difference could be key to who wins this contest.

  11. Glamorgan keep brakes on Sussexpublished at 15:09 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Glamorgan 242, Sussex 178-7

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

The battle of attrition continues in Cardiff with Sussex grinding along at barely two runs an over as they battle for parity on first innings.

Glamorgan’s seam trio of Timm van der Gugten, James Harris and Jamie McIlroy have all been tight on a slow pitch.

McIlroy ended Oli Carter’s long stay when he had him caught behind for 35 as the afternoon session started almost as slowly as the morning.

Australian leggie Mitch Swepson claimed his first county wicket when Nathan McAndrew (8) mistimed a straight drive, but Fynn Hudson-Prentice and Jack Carson eventually opened up slightly as they looked to profit before the new ball.

  12. wicket

WICKET Rhodes c Buttleman b Porter 43published at 15:08 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 107-5

    Real trouble for the Bears.

Will Rhodes was looking well set but gets a faint edge to a Jamie Porter delivery and Will Buttleman pouches his third catch of the afternoon.

He falls seven short of a half-century as Porter (3-19) takes wickets in consecutive overs.

Warwicks trail by 350 runs and have work to do to avoid the follow-on.

  13. 50 runs

Half-century for Dan Worrallpublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Lancashire 274, Surrey 350-9

Only the second half-century of his career for Dan Worrall.

    A remarkable effort.

Their stand is worth 120, Surrey lead by 76 - and they have a third batting point.

There is nothing more soul-destroying in cricket for any bowling side than a last-wicket partnership.

The hosts’ county 10th-wicket partnership record of 173 was set over 100 years ago - by Surrey legend Andy Sandham and Andy Ducat against Essex at Leyton in 1921.

These two are now well within reach - and batting well enough to get there.

  14. wicket

WICKET Stoneman c Brown b Abbas 6published at 15:05 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Hampshire 419 v Middlesex 23-1

Mohammad Abbas tempts Mark Stoneman into playing inside at one which keeps straight and feathers a nick to Ben Brown behind the stumps. A breakthrough for the hosts and just what the visitors didn't need given the deficit is a hair under 400.

Pieter Malan joins Sam Robson in the middle.

  15. 'Middlesex need a good start'published at 15:04 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Hampshire 419 v Middlesex 21-0

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

Hampshire lost six for 135 on Day Two to finish their innings in a stark contrast to their control of yesterday.

Josh de Caires bowled with incredible control to eventually return a seven-wicket haul.

The perceived part time off spinner has impressed with the ball in the T20 campaign but his economy was impressive in the face of Hampshire's dominance with the bat.

There was occasional turn for him and the leg spinner Luke Hollman, but overall the slow and dry surface didn't offer too much to the spinners.

Batting last against the vastly experienced and, one would imagine, highly motivated Liam Dawson is likely to be tricky and could well be decisive.

Cloud cover has blown over for the start of the Middlesex reply and already swing seems more prominent for the left armer Keith Barker.

The damage could have been a lot worse for the visitors but they'll know a poor start will make this a long and hard match.

  16. Postpublished at 15:01 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Hampshire 419 v Middlesex 22-0

The early signs of swing have gone, though Keith Barker is still getting the ball to nip about off the seam.

Middlesex have settled nicely, Mark Stoneman and Sam Robson putting on 19 in the first four overs, though only three more runs from the three which followed, the last of which came after Barker found the edge of Robson's bat but fell an inch short of Ian Holland at second slip.

  17. wicket

WICKET Mousley c Buttleman b Porter 6published at 15:00 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 104-4

A second wicket of the day for Jamie Porter and Essex are firmly in control.

A full ball nips away slightly and takes the outside edge of Dan Mousley's bat.

Will Buttleman takes his second catch of the innings to end Mousley's 21-ball stay.

Ed Barnard joins Will Rhodes and the Bears trail by 353.

  18. 100 runs

Century stand for Surrey last pairpublished at 14:57 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Lancashire 274, Surrey 333-9

What an effort this is from Sean Abbott and Dan Worrall.

A century partnership for the last pair - and now a 59-run lead.

Brutal, brilliant - and an absolute roadcrash for the toiling Lancs attack, who have already dropped two catches.

No surprise that the very first last-wicket century stand in this country against a Kookaburra ball is by two Australians!

  19. 100 runs

up for Warwickshirepublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 103-3

Will Rhodes takes two off Simon Harmer as Warwickshire bring up three figures in the 31st over.

The Bears have been put under plenty of pressure, but Rhodes is still there and now just eight short of his half-century.

  20. 350 up for Kentpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Northants 237 v Kent 335-3

Another bonus point. Daniel Bell-Drummond clips a delicious shot off Tom Taylor through mid-wicket to the rope. He has 157.
