  1. Essex enforce the follow-onpublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Essex 457, Warwickshire 158

The follow-on is not so fashionable these days, but it seemed a no-brainer.

The Essex attack have only 50 overs in their legs and Simon Harmer is getting plenty of assistance from a dry dusty track.

Over to you Alex Davies and Rob Yates - have another turn. There's just the 24 overs left to see out today.

  2. WARWICKSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 158 AND TRAIL BY 299 RUNSpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Rushworth c Westley b Harmer 0 (Essex 457 v Warwickshire 158)

Warwickshire's suffering is over as Simon Harmer's fifth wicket gives Essex a 299-run first innings lead.

Chris Rushworth doesn't hang around long, driving his first ball to Tom Westley at mid-off as Harmer bags a 54th first-class five-wicket haul. Tidy.

For Warwicks, only Will Rhodes (43), Jacob Bethell (37) and Ed Barnard (23 not out) made it into double figures as the visitors were bowled out in less than 51 overs.

No batting points for the Bears, but a maximum eight bonus points for Essex.

Word on the ground is the follow-on has been enforced, but we're waiting for confirmation.

Daniel Bell-Drummond hit his first double century

A maiden first-class double century for Kent's Daniel Bell-Drummond - who smashed a T20 century only on Friday night in his last knock, remember.

DBD pulls consecutive deliveries from Alex Russell through the leg side for four to move to 197 and reach 20 fours and then pulls Russell away for a couple to bring up his 200 from 314 balls.

He's three away from a new first-class best which is the least he deserves from this first-class knock.

  4. wicket

WICKET Lintott c Buttleman b Bracewell 8published at 16:33 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Essex 457 v Warwickshire 151-9

A no-ball from Doug Bracewell brings up the Warwickshire 150.

But with his next ball, Jake Lintott nicks off outside off stump and gives Will Buttleman his fourth catch of the day.

    The deficit is 306.

  5. wicket

WICKET Robson c Brown b Dawson 38published at 16:33 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Hampshire 419 v Middlesex 66-4

Not the cleanest catch from keeper Ben Brown but Liam Dawson has another wicket and it's a biggie. Sam Robson feathers an edge into the glove and goes.

Ryan Higgins is next man in, joining John Simpson. They are more than 350 behind with four wickets down and two and a quarter days of the match remaining.

  6. Tea at Leicesterpublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Durham 516-7 dec, Leicestershire 200-3 (43 overs)

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Leicestershire all-rounder Colin Ackermann is joining Durham next season.

Today's he scored a half century against them - his fifth of the season and his fifth against Durham in four seasons as well.

Ackermann and Peter Handscomb have helped steady the ship after Leicestershire lost three wickets in nine overs, including two in two balls.

Rishi Patel and Sol Budinger had put on 83 for the first wicket, but Patel was out for 31, top-edging a pull off Ben Raine to Liam Trevaskis at square leg.

The next delivery also brought a wicket, as Matt Parkinson, on loan from Lancashire, had Budinger caught behind for 51, then skipper Lewis Hill also fell to Parkinson when he edged to David Bedingham at first slip.

  7. wicket

    WICKET - Jennings c Latham b S Curran 16published at 16:21 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Lancashire 274 & 25-1, Surrey 360

Bad start for Lancashire as skipper Keaton Jennings is beaten by a beauty from Sam Curran and edges to second slip.

Nine overs gone - and Sean Abbott, as well as Lancashire old boy Jordan Clark, is yet to bowl.

Still reeling from that 130-run last wicket Abbott-Dan Worrall partnership, it could be an awkward session this for the Red Rose.

  8. 'Middlesex are looking down the barrel'published at 16:21 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Hampshire 419 v Middlesex 53-3

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

The game has moved a fair pace on Day Two with nine wickets falling by tea - not that the hosts will mind one jot.

Liam Dawson, overlooked by England this summer following the injury to Jack Leach, has followed his opening day century with two huge wickets.

The experience and class of the left-armer may well be the difference in this match, much as Hampshire would have hoped when producing a dry track.

It could have been worse for Middlesex when Sam Robson was shelled at second slip off Mohammad Abbas but the former England opener remains and his side will need some heroics from the right hander to steer this innings or the visitors are looking down the barrel of a long few days on the south coast.

  9. Postpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Northants 237 v Kent 409-4

Jordan Cox whips out the reverse sweep to spinner Alex Russell from the second ball of the session to find the fence for the first time.

42 runs required in 13 overs to claim an eight bonus point of the match for the first time this season.

  10. wicket

WICKET Lammonby b Carter 73published at 16:16 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Somerset 163 & 162-3 v Nottinghamshire 186

Vital breakthrough for Notts after tea.

Tom Lammonby looked to be putting Somerset in a very strong position with a super innings but his 139-ball knock comes to an end for 73.

He looks to pull Matt Carter away, but is beaten by a quicker ball which clips the top of middle stump.

The Somerset lead is 139 and Tom Kohler-Cadmore joins George Bartlett.

  11. Lancs need some picking uppublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Lancashire 274 & 18-0, Surrey 30

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

Sean Abbott and Dan Worrall might just have done enough to set up a Surrey win.

That brutal last-wicket partnership was worth 130 runs, after having come together with the home side still trailing by 44 runs.

Lancashire will take some picking up after that as Keaton Jennings and Luke Wells negotiate having to face Worrall and Sam Curran with the new ball after tea.

  13. Tea at Southamptonpublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Hampshire 419 v Middlesex 53-3

Despite the return of Middlesex's top-order woes, Sam Robson stands firm on 31 at tea, despite facing a fired-up Liam Dawson with rough to work with and fielders crowding the bat. He's earned a cold beverage and a quiet sit-down during the interval.

The deficit is 366. The visitors need John Simpson and Robson to do what Dawson and Nick Gubbins did this time yesterday and bat their side out of peril.

  14. Tea at Northamptonpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Northants 237 v Kent 401-4

Another bonus point in the bag, 15 overs to get another, the Kent 400 comes up from the final ball of the afternoon session.

Daniel Bell-Drummond has moved onto 180 not out which is his best ever County Championship score. He has posed a double-ton but it came against Loughborough MCCU in a first-class warm-up match.

32 overs to come after tea, the Kent lead is 164.

  15. wicket

WICKET and Tea at Tauntonpublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Ali c Browne b Harmer 4 (Essex 457 v Warwickshire 138-8)

Hasan Ali is not happy but he has to go.

He plants bat and pad together to defend Simon Harmer's trickery in the final over before tea but the ball loops up gently for a simple catch to Nick Browne.

Ali is convinced there was no bat involved, but he goes and the eighth Warwicks wicket brings tea.

It's been a session to forget for Warwickshire as Essex take complete control.

Resuming on 28-2, Will Rhodes (43) and Jacob Bethell (37) offered resistance, but they stood alone.

Two wickets from Jamie Porter (3-20) and four from Simon Harmer (4-54) leave the Bears 319 behind with just two first-innings wickets in hand.

  16. Tea at Tauntonpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Somerset 163 & 155-2 v Nottinghamshire 186

Tom Lammonby (72) and George Bartlett (50) survive the session unscathed.

They have taken the score from 43-2 to 155-2 and stretched the lead to a substantial 132 runs with eight wickets still intact.

Considering 22 wickets had fallen in the first four sessions of this match, that’s no mean feat.

Notts will be rueing those two dropped catches off Lammonby on six and 52 as they take their teatime cuppas.

  17. Postpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Northants 237 v Kent 390-4

Jordan Cox gets off the mark and takes the Kent lead past 150. The visitors are closing in on another bonus point and Hamid Qadri will be sat on the balcony thinking this pitch might be offering him something whenever he gets the chance to bowl at Northants.

  18. 50 runs

for George Bartlettpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Somerset 163 & 149-2 v Nottinghamshire 186

Somerset wait four sessions for a fifty and then two come along in quick succession.

George Bartlett has ridden his luck at times but takes two off Jake Ball to bring up a vital fifty off 110 balls as he and Tom Lammonby

The pair passed the 100 partnership in the previous over and have now added 106 priceless runs for the third wicket.

The lead builds to 126 runs.

  19. wicket

WICKET Leaning b Keoghpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Northants 237 v Kent 386-4

Oh my word. Call the physics police. Rob Keogh's first ball has turned an absolute mile and bowled Jack Leaning through the gate. He looks like he's been slapped in the face, such is his shock. That's an incredible ball.

    Jordan Cox joins Daniel Bell-Drummond.

  20. dropped catch

Missed catchpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Hampshire 419 v Middlesex 46-3

John Simpson gets away with one, Kyle Abbott finds the outside edge but the ball flashes through the slips, inches away from the right hand of Liam Dawson. If he'd held it it would have challenged his century and double-wicket maiden opening over in terms of an amazing contribution, but it has to go down as a chance.
