With no Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins coming in at number eight, I think that this is the partnership England will want to break.

With the declaration we saw on the first day, Ben Stokes will want to try and put the pressure back on Australia.
Early wickets are the order of the day for England. They've still got a relatively new ball to help their seamers and we've seen how much turn their is on offer for Moeen Ali.
Break this partnership and they are into the bowlers. A first-innings lead is still a very realistic possibility.
If Usman Khawaja and Alex Carey get going again, though, Australia will be thinking the same.

Phil-Boson: If Australia bat for a full session and get a lead, England will have to bat more patiently or increase the risk of going 1-0 down. They won't though, will they?
Sam Rogers: Already feels like a massive session in the Ashes this morning. Either team can take control of this match in the first two hours today. Hopefully England are up to the task and get the job done.
Thanks, Tom.
It is indeed looking bright and sunny in Birmingham and although these things can change quickly, I think it's safe to say that play will be starting at 11:00 BST as planned!
Thank you for joining me this morning and for all your tweets and texts.
Fortunately the clouds have cleared we are set to start on time with blue skies overhead at Edgbaston.
Time to hand over to Sam Drury to take you through the morning session.

In the third innings, I think England will try and put the hammer down and force a result. England will not try and make a backwards step as an opportunity to draw it and they will try and win it at this stage.

I think Australia will bat and say we've got three days of cricket, we can't control the weather but we can control how we go about out batting. They will look to get as close to the target, only 82 behind, get there and then go on.
Nathan Lyon gets turn and bounce with over spin. He could be tricky on this surface.

Good morning, that risk is still there today. There is nothing on the radar just yet, as temperatures rise that risk of storms will rise. We might get very lucky.
We could get some showers pop up in the Birmingham area. As we get into the evening, some of those showers could pop up. It's a risk today rather than a guarantee but a severe storm is a possibility. Tomorrow there is only a light chance of rain.
Tuesday is again a difficult one. We could see a delayed start or we could get away with it. It's a finely balanced one. If it rains today, it would likely be from probably about 3pm I'd say.
Kudos to Simon in Tonbridge for getting the answer spot on. Apologies to anyone else who tweeted/texted in the correct answer - we have had a lot of replies to get through.
Another question same time tomorrow!
Andy Zaltzman
Cricket statistician on Test Match Special
The answer is 45%.
As of the end of play on day two at Edgbaston, a total of 362 players have made an honours-board-worthy contribution to Ashes cricket.
24 have both scored a century and taken a five-for (although in the last 50 years, only Ian Botham, both Waugh twins, Andrew Flintoff, Ben Stokes and Mitchell Marsh have done so). A further 174 have scored an Ashes hundred, and 164 more have taken five wickets in an innings. In all, 183 of 444 England players (41%), and 179 of 369 Australians (49%), have made their way onto an honours board in men’s Ashes cricket.
Thank you so much for all your answers to today's ZaltQuiz.
The answer is coming right up...

I think I may have initially misread the question. I reckon it's much higher than people think. I'm going 62%.
Ned in Leicestershire.
69%, because I always think they’re playing really well (usually because I’m accidentally watching the highlights reel) C’mon England
Ellie in Leeds, to annoy Ben in Leeds
45%

Charlie from London: My guess is 35% I feel a lot of people will have got on the honours board In an Ashes.
Stuart in Suffolk: 56% for me.
Alec, Rugby: There are definitely over 100 players in each list with Ashes hundreds/fivefers. Probably nearer 200. I’ll guess at 40%.
Sun and blue sky up ahead at Edgbaston so we should be good for a 11:00 BST start.
Stuart Broad, bucket hat and all, is giving an interview on the outfield.
Some of the other players are gathered in a circle playing one-bounce with a football.
All very relaxed. All very Bazball.

James McCullough: Zaltzquiz question this morning has given me food for thought. I'm going to go with 17% percent. Happy Father's Day to all those who are forcing their kids to listen to the Ashes today. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi
Rob Dougal: On the basis that around 15 of the current relatively young 22 have done it, at least 70%.
A reminder of today's ZaltzQuiz:
Usman Khawaja and Joe Root have added further honours board entries to their collection with hundreds at Edgbaston. In all, 813 players have appeared in men’s Ashes Tests.
To the nearest percent, what proportion have taken either a five-wicket haul or scored a century (or both) in an Ashes match?
We will reveal the answer at 10:30 BST.
