    Somerset 196-5 v Hampshire

    No!

Madness. The players reach the square, take a look up, look at the umpires, and they all agree to trudge back off again. Not a ball was bowled.

Mohammad Abbas has a face like thunder, you suspect he's been made to rush a biscuit or pour a perfectly good cuppa away in order to dash back out there for the aborted-resumption.

Anyway, as you were. Covers coming back on.

No idea how, but they're back out in the middle inbetween the sharp summer showers.

We had a seven-ball session after lunch..... will this be any longer?

  8. Close of play at Riversidepublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Durham v Glos 280-6

As expected, the elements have forced an early close in this Durham-Gloucestershire contest.

Gloucester are still handily placed but a fine fightback from Durham this afternoon and this evening, taking three of those wickets for 61 runs either side of tea.

Zafar Gohar will need to marshal the tail to get the visitors to 300 and beyond tomorrow.

  9. wicket

James Rew (77) and Kasey Aldridge (55) have added 116 in 27 overs together to haul Somerset back into this game.

James Vince is all smiles walking off... probably until someone reminds him of the horror drop of Aldridge on eight.

What an under-rated cricketer Jordan Clark is.

He reaches his third first-class hundred - and second for Surrey - from 133 balls by coming down the track and thumping Matthew Montgomery away for four to mid-wicket.

He punches the air and is patted on the back by Sean Abbott.

It's been a terrific, mature innings after the Division One leaders were in some trouble on 130-5.
