for James Rewpublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Somerset 155-5 v Hampshire

Just a third first class fifty - he does have five centuries though!

Running out of superlatives to describe the 19-year-old's performances. His first class average is now above 50 after 28 innings.

He dabs James Fuller down to the ropes at third to bring up the milestone from 105 balls with seven fours.

  2. Latest from Blackpoolpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Lancashire v Essex 12-1

No question of 'throwing in the towel' too soon at Stanley Park.

The umpires decide another inspection is needed at 5pm with a view to re-starting half an hour later for a mini-session of 16 overs.

  3. wicket

WICKET Bracey b Parkinson 26published at 16:43 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Durham v Glos 261-6

Raine bounces Zafar - who ducks. Durham are rushing through their overs here, no doubt a bit worried about a slow over rate, now registering at -3 on the scoreboard.

Bowled him! Bracey plays all around a full ball, bowled by Parkinson - and loses his off stump.

Well-flighted ball - and more than a hint of turn on a fifth stump line.

Durham strike early in the session and the Gloucester tail is exposed.

Time for Josh Shaw to have a bat.

  4. Postpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Surrey 217-6 v Notts

Sean Abbott is fortunate. He edges but the ball eludes the keeper and Joe Clarke at first slip and runs away for four.

It was going to Clarke's left hand - was he put off by Tom Moores' dive in front of him? Looked very much like it.

The Australian is off the mark and Jordan Clark now has 56 at the other end.

  5. 150 runs

The toss took place, Leicestershire put Glamorgan in and then the umpires decided the light wasn't good enough to allow play to start. The waiting continues.

  8. Evening session begins at the Riversidepublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Durham v Glos 259-5

Durham will know that an early breakthrough here could really put the skids on what has been a very fluent Gloucestershire innings for much of the day at a gloomy Riverside with the floodlights beaming over the ground.

James Bracey and Zafar Gohar to resume with the bat.

Just one runs comes off the Ryan Higgins over.

Good pace and bounce from Helm at the other end and run-scoring looks as difficult as ever for the visitors.

  10. wicket

WICKET Foakes c Moores b Paterson 46published at 16:33 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Surrey 207-6 v Notts

....Clark's partner Ben Foakes is gone.

That is a big wicket for Dane Paterson - and the fourth catch of the innings for keeper Tom Moores.

The ball just did enough off the pitch to find the outside edge and Moores took it just millimetres above the turf.

Foakes and Jordan Clark added 77 for the sixth wicket.

  11. 50 runs

for Jordan Clarkpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Surrey 207-5 v Notts

A single off Dane Paterson takes Jordan Clark to his first Championship 50 of the summer off 65 balls but......

  12. Postpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Surrey 206-5 v Notts

The good news for Notts is that their physio has worked some sort of miracle during the tea interval and Brett Hutton is back out there.

Calvin Harrison will continue, though, and six runs are added with Jordan Clark now just one short of 50 and Ben Foakes on 46.

  13. Division Two Updatepublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

Here's the latest away from the Riverside...

Rain continues to hold up play at New Road, where Yorkshire's openers have put on an unbeaten 142.

Lyth has 75 and Bean has 59.

We've had no play at all between Glamorgan and Leicester, where the SWALEC Stadium has been beset by rain. Play is due to start at 1630 BST - weather permitting.

Leicestershire will field first, having won the toss.

At Hove, Sussex are 247-4 at tea vs Derbyshire, where Tom Clark fell four runs short of a century just before the break, caught by Derbyshire skipper Leus du Plooy off the bowling of Alex Thompson.

    Kent 171 v Warwickshire 77-1 - tea

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM at Canterbury

In their hotel this morning, Warwickshire might have thought that ideally they would be batting at 11 o’clock. As it turned out, batting at three was better still, having dispatched Kent’s first innings in 40 overs.

The hosts’ total felt inadequate at the change of innings, a sense apparently confirmed by Rob Yates and Alex Davies as they bowled along at four an over with little apparent risk.

Arshdeep Singh occasionally hurried them at first, but was soon flagging and retired to the outfield after conceding five boundaries in his last three overs.

When Evison hit Davies’ front pad just before tea and won the appeal, it might have come as a surprise to most people here, although the batter’s reaction suggested he was most surprised of all.

Warwickshire might be level already had it not been for a vigorous counter-attack by the Kent tail, which almost doubled the total after the eighth wicket fell at 95. Grant Stewart sounded the trumpets, landing one of his five sixes close to the visitors’ balcony.

Matt Quinn and Arshdeep followed his lead and both cleared the boundary too – Quinn choosing the longest route over the lopsided playing area.

Some of the Bears seemed on the verge of tearing their hair out until Oliver Hannon-Dalby, who can’t any more even if he wanted to, made Stewart his fourth victim.

    Somerset 130-5 v Hampshire

Penny for James Vince's thoughts... after being dropped on eight, Kasey Aldridge has settled in nicely and a gorgeous back-foot punch through the covers to the fence and a glance down the leg side take him to 26.

He and James Rew (41) have now put on 50 in 10.3 overs

    Middlesex v Northants 144-6

How do Northants approach this session? Cautious attrition or calculated risk?

Time to find out with Saif Zaib and Lewis McManus.

Ryan Higgins will bowl to McManus.

    Durham v Gloucestershire 259-5 - tea

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

That seemed like a really long session to commentate on and looking at the clock it was! They went off for tea at 4.10pm after two and a half hours of play.

Progress appears slow, almost Test match-like. And that's despite a 50 metre boundary to the pavilion. But a look at the scoreboard suggests the run rate is not that bad at 4.1 an over.

Matthew Potts got Chris Dent with a jaffa. He was caught behind off a ball he had to play at when on 86. Earlier, Miles Hammond slapped a shot off Matt Parkinson to Scott Borthwick at mid-wicket when on 52, the Durham skipper leaping into the air to snatch the ball as it was disappearing over his head.

Just before tea Parkinson bowled Grant Roelofsen for 42 as the batsman tried to slog-sweep a full toss and missed it.

    Kent 171 v Warwickshire 77-1

    Rob YatesImage source, Rex Features

Kent have found a breakthrough thanks to Joey Evison but their first-innings advantage is being steadily whittled away and is already down to double figures with nine Warwickshire wickets remaining.

Alex Davies looked the more dangerous of the Bears openers so Kent will be glad it was he that got a dodgy LBW decision, but Rob Yates remains there on 28 and Will Rhodes has made a bright start at the other end.

  19. Glamorgan put in by Leicestershirepublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Glamorgan and Leicestershire are due to get under way at 16:30 BST after the toss was finally completed at the third attempt.

Leicestershire captain Lewis Hill put Glamorgan into bat in murky conditions and with the threat of further rain still around.

England’s teenage all-rounder Rehan Ahmed was a surprise absentee after being included in the Foxes’ squad.

Glamorgan have Australian paceman Michael Neser back from his country’s Ashes squad, while their captain David Lloyd faces an awkward return, opening the batting after an eight-week injury absence.

  20. Tea at the Riversidepublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

    Durham v Glos 259-5

Durham are clawing their way back into the contest after a lot of fluent Gloucester batting for much of the day's play, removing Roelofsen just before the break when he appeared well set.

Bracey will resume with Zafar in 20 minutes.
