    Lancs 145 & 377-9 v Essex 282 & 292-8 dec

It looks like Lancashire have now accepted that a draw should be the summit of their ambitions.

Rob Jones pushes a single at the start of the latest Sam Cook over and Will Williams ducks a bouncer but dead-bats the rest.

The home side have six overs to survive - they are 53 away from their 430 target, which may now be merely theoretical.

  2. 6 runs

Postpublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Middlesex 252-5 - target 323 (50 balls)

Jack White is bowling to Roland-Jones.

The new ball has not been taken and there must be concern that it would ping off the bat a little too easily.

What a shot from Roland-Jones! Back of a length and Rojo swings through the line - and the ball goes down the ground for six!

    That's the 250 in 83.2 overs.

  3. wicket

WICKET Kimber b Swepson 61published at 17:48 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Glamorgan 403-9 dec v Leicestershire 410-6

The fun is over. Louis Kimber departs for 61 from 35 balls with six fours and four sixes.

Kimber provided 61 of a stand of 79 in 9.3 overs with Wiaan Mulder before getting down on one knee, swinging, missing and being bowled by Mitch Swepson.

That has secured another bowling bonus point for the hosts, they have six to Leicestershire's seven

Tom Scriven comes in with his side needing 39 more runs for an eighth bonus. Glamorgan would need three wickets for another bowling point.

  4. Postpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

Number 11 Will Williams safely negotiates the final two balls of Doug Bracewell's over.

    Derbys 281-5 - target 380 (minimum overs 11.4)

Fabulous knock though. 54 balls with seven fours and four sixes.

    Anuj Dal is in next.

  7. 50 runs

for Louis Kimberpublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Glamorgan 403-9 dec v Leicestershire 404-5

Louis Kimber is going starl raving mad at Sophia Gardens.

He brings up a 29-ball 50 - just his seventh in first class cricket - with a six off Kiran Carlson and then helps himself to 10 runs off the next two deliveries too.

That has also brought up a fourth batting bonus point.

  8. wicket

WICKET Bailey c Harmer b Bracewell 8published at 17:44 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Lancs 145 & 376-9 v Essex 282 & 292-8 dec

Having been dropped at mid-wicket earlier in the over, Tom Bailey is gone.

A big swing, the ball flies to backward point and Simon Harmer takes a superb diving catch.

Essex on the brink of victory.

    Derby 275-4 - target 380 (minimum overs 13)

Haider Ali takes three boundaries off Hudson-Prentice in one over, the 45th of the innings, which costs 14 runs in total.

A bottom-handed swipe to long on, a lofted drive to long off and a deft nudge to third man.

    Phew.

  10. Postpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Lancs 145 & 376-8 v Essex 282 & 292-8 dec

  11. Postpublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Lancs 145 & 373-8 v Essex 282 & 292-8 dec

Just three singles from Sam Cook's over- not enough for Lancashire.

They now need 57 off eight - the rate is now over seven.

  12. HAMPSHIRE DRAW WITH SOMERSETpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Somerset 500 v Hampshire 330 & 215-7

That unbroken century stand has indeed salvaged a draw. The 177-run ninth-wicket stand between Felix Organ and Kyle Abbott in the first innings should also be acknowledged.

James Rew's double century will live long in the memory in a game which has been punctuated by gritty defiance - both sides recovered from 80-5 to post 500 and 330 respectively and Liam Dawson (68*) and Nick Gubbins (50*) have encapsulated that with a defiant century stand to save the game.

    Nothing like county cricket.

  13. wicket

WICKET Simpson c Procter b White 75published at 17:38 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Middlesex 234-4 - target 323 (minimum overs 10.5)

Simpson goes for a big one down the ground and he's caught a couple of feet inside the boundary rope by Luke Procter!

Time for Ryan Higgins to have a bit - and personally, I wouldn't expect much blocking.

  14. 50 runs

for Nick Gubbinspublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Somerset 500 v Hampshire 330 & 215-7

His 38th in first class cricket. Gubbins has earned this one more than most.

A two off Dom Bess also brings up the 100 partnership for the eighth wicket.

The tail-enders have more than held their own at Taunton this week.

  15. Postpublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Lancs 145 & 370-8 v Essex 282 & 292-8 dec

Great shot by Tom Bailey, who lofts Jamie Porter down the ground for four.

Lancashire need 60 more off nine overs.

  16. 100 runs

100 for Sam Robsonpublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Middlesex 234-3 - target 323 (minimum overs 11)

    Procter bowls...

Driven through the off side for two and that's his 100!

He's the first Middlesex player to reach a century this season.

His first century of the season may go a long way to deciding the outcome of this match.

    229 balls and ten fours.

Simpson gets a single off the last ball of the over to bring up the 150 partnership between the pair in 299 balls.

  17. Postpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Somerset 500 v Hampshire 330 & 213-7

Tell you what Nick Gubbins has produced a knock probably even more vital than Liam Dawson's.

Gubbins has faced 235 balls, hit four of them to the rope and taken 32 runs off the other 231 deliveries.

These two came together with Hampshire staring down the barrel of an innings defeat at 115-7 and they have staved off the threat of defeat and now look set to salvage a draw.

An unbroken 98-run partnership in 46 overs. Monumental.

A brilliant game of cut and thrust over the four-weather affected days.

  18. 50 runs

50 for Haider Alipublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Derbys 261-4 - target 380 (minimum overs 14)

    Shot!

Haider Ali is down the track on bended knee to Carson, lunching the bowler over long off for his third six.

His 50 comes in only 43 balls - also with four fours.

He celebrates with his fourth six, lofted down the ground.

  19. 100 runs

    Rob JonesImage source, Rex Features

In these circumstances, you have to say that is a magnificent century for Rob Jones.

It's his first of the season and third of his career, and it arrives from 249 balls with a tip and run single off Jamie Porter.

Jones has hit two sixes and 11 fours and Lancashire could do with a few more if this chase is to be successful.

  20. Postpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Lancs 145 & 364-8 v Essex 282 & 292-8 dec

Two runs to Rob Jones followed by a single and Rob Jones is 99 not out.

Tom Bailey takes one from the final ball of Sam Cook's over - again, why deprive the man who is well set of the strike?

Lancashire need 66 from the final 10 in a game which, if you recall, saw only 4.4 overs of play on day one because of rain.
